Chapter 379: 379. A Fight

"Do you know the best part of this?" He asked wickedly. "You’re too weak to kick my ass back."

Jael looked up at Louis with a shocked expression, "Are you out of your mind?" His eyes glowed.

Louis bounced on his feet, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "Maybe, but what are you going to do about it?" As he asked the question, he walked closer to where Jael sat in the water.

Jael jumped to his feet, and spat out blood. The metallic taste of the blood in his mouth made his blood boil. "I am going to pretend that didn’t happen. You have three seconds..."

"Or else what?" Louis asked and cracked his neck. "What could you possibly do about it? There are no guards here. I will beat your ass, beat some sense into you. Ohhh, I get it. Scared, aren’t you? I can tell the punch caught you off guard. Felt very nice to hear that crack."

"You’re out of your mind," Jael said, but he was already moving to an attacking stance.

"Maybe, but compared to you, I’m quite sane."

"You think because I look like this, you can win this fight?"

Louis snickered, "Fight? Less talking, more punching."

Jael took off immediately, rushing out of the river. His clothes felt heavy, and it was a little uncomfortable to run around dripping with water. However, he didn’t like the look on Louis’ face, and he certainly didn’t like the fact that he was punched.

He closed the gap between them and threw out his hand, aiming for Louis’s face. Louis ducked and smirked. Before Jael could react, he got an uppercut to his jaw.

The impact threw him backward, and it took everything for him not to fly off. He swore. Normally, that wouldn’t have fazed him.

He could taste more blood. Either the wound he got from the first punch hadn’t healed, or he bit his tongue. He could tell it was more likely the latter than the former.

He tightened his feet as he fought for balance with the full intention to retaliate, but everything started to spin.

"I hit your chin," Louis announced proudly. "You’ll need a moment, but that’s if I let you recover."

He moved closer and punched Jael in the guts. Jael bent forward. Louis had punched a vital organ. He swore as the blinding pain traveled all over his body.

"Are you ready to listen to reason, or do I still need to beat some sense into you?" Louis asked.

Jael slowly raised his head; his eyes were glowing, and his fangs were longer. Louis cussed and tried to get back, but he couldn’t as Jael held on.

Jael gave him a bloody smile and head-butted him with all of his might. A loud crack echoed in the night as Louis’ head bent backward and went limp, exposing his neck.

Jael moved quickly, his fangs digging into the front of Louis’ neck. He didn’t think, just ripped at the skin as hard as he could.

A shout echoed through the night. Louis jumped out of Jael’s grasp, grabbing his neck. "What are you? A Paler? What in the bloody tarnation?"

Blood poured out of his hands and pressed down on his neck, hoping to stop the bleeding. Jael had ripped a good enough skin off. He would need more than a minute to heal.

Jael spat out his skin, "Scared?" He asked.

"Yes!" Louis said without hesitation. "Use your fists, Goddamnit."

"This was your idea. Don’t whine because the rules aren’t going your way," Jael replied, and he spat again.

The blood tasted nasty in his mouth. He hated having to rely on his fangs, but by the looks of things, he wasn’t going to land a punch on Louis. Using this unorthodox tactic was the only chance he had.

"I am not whining. I am telling you that no sane person would do that. If this isn’t a sign to you that you’ve lost it, you’ve gone crazy."

Jael twirled his right shoulder and took a step forward. "Excuses, excuses, that’s all I hear. I am sure you thought this was going to be easy, huh? Well, I am sorry to disappoint you. Come at me if you dare."

Louis’ gaze darkened, and he squared up, removing his hand from his neck. "Thank you for giving me time to heal up."

Jael saw it, but his body couldn’t keep up. It probably had to do with the fact that he was losing more blood in such a weak state.

Louis came at him at full speed, and before he had the chance to shield himself, he was hit with a barrage of body blows.

One in his stomach, two to his right side, his stomach again, and then his left side. Jael couldn’t understand how Louis was throwing his punches so fast.

Jael pretended to reach for Louis’ head, and Louis started to smile, preparing to get out of reach, but Jael left his knee instead, hitting him right in the groin.

Louis’ eyes bulged, and then he smiled as he punched Jael right in the face, directly where he had punched him the very first time.

Jael felt his neck twist, and he fell to the floor, coughing blood. He spat and turned to look at Louis.

"What the hell? What do you have? Balls of steel?"

"You nasty person. I suspected you were going to try some underhanded trick, seeing as your punches can’t reach me."

Jael cussed and touched his cheek. It felt broken. It was sore as hell, and just touching it stung. It didn’t help that blood was rushing out of it.

His lips were busted too; either it was from the punch, or he had bitten himself with his fangs. He winced and pulled his hand away.

"Ready to give up now?" Louis asked, moving closer.

He mumbled gibberish, ensuring it wasn’t loud enough for Louis to hear so that he would come closer.

"What was that, loser?" Louis said cheekily and took a step forward.
