The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 378. Ass Kick

Chapter 378: 378. Ass Kick

Jael walked down the stairs leading to the ground floor. He walked purposefully, and it looked like he intended to leave the castle.

He got to the front doors, and the guards bowed at him before throwing the doors open. Jael simply nodded and walked out the door.

"Where do you think you’re going?" Louis asked Jael as he walked out through the front doors.

Jael didn’t respond and just continued. He already knew Louis was behind him. He carefully went down the stairs.

"Jael," Louis called again. His voice sounded too close for comfort.

"Where are you going? You are in no condition to leave the castle."

"I don’t see how that’s any of your business," he responded. His gaze slightly lifted to the sky.

There were almost no stars as he lifted his gaze; a few could be seen, but the cloudy sky obstructed them from view. Even the moon didn’t look so bright.

"Yeah, you’re probably right," Louis said with a shrug but didn’t make any sign of going away; instead, he moved even closer to Jael.

"What do you think you’re doing?" Jael asked darkly as they both got to the end of the front stairs.

"Whatever do you mean?" Louis asked innocently.

"Don’t play dumb with me," Jael said. It was apparent he was getting irritated.

"I am going with you, obviously. Someone must ensure the Primus is safe, especially when he is so severely ill."

Louis kept a straight face as he spoke, blinking at calculated intervals as he stared at Jael.

"There is no need for that. Go back."

Louis chuckled, "Surely, you don’t think I’d take your orders. I will do as I like. Since you refused to behave properly, I might as well do what I want. Besides, I am not following you. We just happen to be going in the same direction."

"Stop it," Jael said with a glare. "Whatever you’re doing, it’s not appreciated."

"I know, however, know that I am trying to help."

"This is not the way to go about it. I’d rather you leave."

"Ouch, I will, okay? But after you’re back to normal. As soon as you figure your shit out, I’ll leave and never return." Louis said with a straight face. Jael thought he saw a flash of darkness.

"I am fine."

"No, you’re not. Whatever this is about, I am sure we can fix it somehow."

"I don’t want to talk to you," Jael replied. "There isn’t any problem, and if there was, I am sure I can fix it myself. So, your concern is not needed."

"You say that, but your face and the state of your body say otherwise. You couldn’t be louder in your cry for help."

"Shut it."

"Help is already here. It wouldn’t kill you to accept it. You always think everything is about you. You’re the Primus; even though you didn’t want to be, you eventually chose it. It’s only right that you behave properly. You owe your people that much."

"I don’t want to hear that from you. Not from you. Not when you abandoned everything for a wild goose chase, and you think you talk to me about responsibilities and behaving properly. Don’t make me laugh. You should be gone by the time I come back. I won’t be so lenient on you."

Louis squinted his eyes, "As you wish, Sire," he said stiffly.

Jael narrowed his eyes, but instead of saying anything, he turned around and quickly approached the gates.

The fence was pretty much entirely at this point. A few finishing touches were left, but Haney was true to his words. They would need a couple more days tops, and the fence would be officially completed.

Jael didn’t bother going through the gates even with his body in constant pain; scaling the tall fence was as easy as walking.

He landed on the grass without making a sound, even though he had jumped from such a high place.

The force of landing reverberated through his body, and Jael winced at the pain. He hated to admit it, but he was indeed in poor shape.

His severed arm was taking too long to heal. Almost a month, that was ridiculous for a vampire. He knew what he had to do; however, for some reason, he didn’t have any zeal to.

Sleep was also eluding him, but he wondered if that was because of the pain than anything else. He walked steadily, fighting off the urge to go after Palers.

Last time, he had barely survived. He would need to let his body recuperate. At least enough to allow the minor injuries to heal before he could do that.

He wasn’t delirious; he knew the risks it posed. Right now, he wouldn’t be able to take down even the youngest of Palers, let alone one who has been alive for so long.

Louis was wrong. He wasn’t trying to kill himself. He didn’t know what he was trying to do, but something hurt inside him.

It was so painful. The only thing that made it less worse was physical pain. The ache in his body kept his thoughts at bay.

The sounds of the river flowing pulled Jael out of his thoughts. It’s his favorite spot. He hasn’t been here in a while.

To think this was somewhere he would occasionally run to, but after she came, that completely changed.

He winced at the thought of her and sat on the rock, staring at nothingness, just enjoying the sounds of the night and the river flowing.

"What are you doing here?" Jael asked without turning around.

"Sightseeing," Louis responded.

Jael’s expression darkened. The vampire must have followed him at a distance he couldn’t sense. Either that or Louis knew he would come here.

"There are other spots to sightsee," he replied, still looking away.

"I knew you would come here, Louis replied, repeating Jael’s exact thoughts.

No response.

"You haven’t changed one bit," Louis chuckled. "Actually, that’s a bit wrong, you’ve changed a little."

"Thank you for your observation. Now leave. I want to be alone."

"I already promised that I would leave if you let me help. I know you think this would pass, but if you don’t deal with the root of this, you will keep feeling as miserable as you do now."

Jael turned to look at Louis; the moon was directly behind him. He turned away immediately. He knew better than to rely on people. Where has that gotten him?

"Trust me."

"And why should I?" Jael asked, picking up a tiny stone. He tossed it towards the river, and it made a small splash."

"You’re right, you shouldn’t. I should have returned a long time ago. I should have returned for our parents’ funeral. They were my parents as much as they were yours. You didn’t have to go through the grief alone."

Jael scoffed, "Don’t you think you’re getting the wrong idea? You think this is about you?"

Joel turned his head a little to the side. "Don’t be ridiculous. It has been more than thirty years. That’s definitely enough time to get over anything. My parents’ death was unfortunate. However, you wouldn’t have been able to relate after all; they simply took you in after your parents’ death. They didn’t sire you. Their death couldn’t have had as much impact for you as it did for me."

Louis sighed, "Your ability to say hurtful things without flinching needs to be studied. Contrary to what you think, they were my parents. Fine! If that’s how you want it, I guess I will just have to bring Mauve back."

"What?" Jael asked. He was standing to his feet before he realized.

Louis smirked, "That seems to have your attention. You heard me. I will bring her back. Hopefully, she can talk some sense into you."

"It’s a waste of time; she wouldn’t want to return."

"What makes you so sure?"

Jael sat back on the rock, "Leave me alone. Poking at old wounds wouldn’t get you the answer you want. I will figure myself out like I always do."

Louis sighed, "You’re so stubborn it’s pissing. Accept my help, you dumb Primus."

Jael’s head snapped, "Who do you think you are..."

The words were barely out of his lips when he felt pain. The movement has been too fast for him to follow. Was it because of the lack of blood in his system?

One second, he was sitting on the rock; the next, he felt an impact on his cheek, and it flew him across.

Jael winced as he landed on the water, making a huge splash. His back hit a sharp stone, but the pain still wasn’t as bad as the one on his cheeks.

"You want your body to be in bad shape; I will gladly help you out," Louis said with a glint in his eyes as he cracked his knuckles. "Do you know the best part of this?" He asked wickedly. "You’re too weak to kick my ass back."
