Chapter 373. A Kinda Good Primus

Chapter 373: 373. A Kinda Good Primus

"Why did you chase her off in the first place?" He asked, raising a brow.

"It’s none of your business, Louis. You should leave."

Louis’ face fell and he let out a loud sigh, "And here I thought you were willing to let bygones be bygones."

Jael snorted, "Yeah right. You don’t show up after such a long time and act like nothing has changed. You don’t get to ask personal questions and expect an answer from me. For old time’s sake and for the sake of the woman we both once called mother, I’ll let you stay in the castle but I want you gone before the third night."

"That’s tomorrow night!" Louis said with a horrified look on his face.

"That’s not my problem."

"It’s funny," Louis said, standing to his feet. "It’s been such a long time and you haven’t changed one bit except your hair is longer. Wait, is that a ponytail? Huh? I thought you hated long hair."

"Are you done here?" Jael asked without blinking.

"I suppose I am," he said, taking off his coat and hanging it over his right shoulder with a finger holding it by the collar. "I don’t plan to give up, neither on getting your forgiveness nor the bloody intervention. I will let you get back to work, oh Vampire King." Louis said with a snort as he walked out the door.

He walked out the door to see the personal guards waiting by the stairs. Danag looked desperate but he looked more tired than anything else.

"Any news?" Danag said as Louis got close enough.

"I am afraid not," he said and draped his coat over his forearm. "Which is not surprising, Jael is pretty stubborn and to admit he needs help would be equivalent to getting bitten by a Paler and I doubt he would do that willingly."

"Oh no. This is bad."

"Fret not, Danag. The good news is he isn’t chasing me out of the castle immediately which means I have a chance to turn this around. The only problem is I have about a day to do that."

"That doesn’t sound very doable," Danag commented.

"Yeah, but pessimism gets us nowhere. Now please lead me to my quarters. My legs are killing me."

"Your quarters are the same as always, the Primus left your room untouched and locked. No one has been in there except the servants during occasional clean-ups."

"That bastard, if he wanted me to come back he could have just said so." Louis touched his forehead. "It is safe to assume the same of the human but as the dimwit that he is, he would rather run himself to the ground than admit it."

"Is she that important?" Erick asked.

"Yeah, yeah. Ugh!" Louis said and leaned backward, stretching his waist.

"And you’re certain she is the reason he is acting in such a manner?" Erick asked he was peering at Louis with all seriousness.

"I doubt it, it’s probably a cluster of issues. Goddamnit! You’d think the leader of vampires would act sanely. It’s like dealing with a crazy kid. What’s her name?"

"Her name?" Erick asked with a frown.

"Mauve," Danag responded.

"Mauve," Louis repeated while slightly raising the corner of his lips. "The drastic measure would be to bring Mauve back. However, we don’t want to piss off the wounded lion any further, the result might be the opposite of what we want."

Danag nodded as Louis spoke. Damon barely showed any reaction while Erick looked flabbergasted.

"It doesn’t make any sense to act in this manner about a human," Erick pestered.

"My thoughts exactly, considering this is his fault," Louis whispered.

"I’d say mine," Danag replied.

"Yours?"

"I am the reason she saw the letter."

"Letter?"

"The reason why she wanted to leave in the first place," Danag replied.

"Oh, the letter from her father but you’re not the one that chased her off. Sure, you’re not exactly clean but she would have been back already if he hadn’t sent her off forever."

"Still, maybe if I had just seen past the fact that she was human."

Louis’ expression turned serious. "There is no seeing past it, she can never become his mate that is for certain, not as far as vampires are concerned. However, there is no denying that he is hung up on her and she served a purpose, now that’s she not here, he’s a bit unhinged, and all his mental issues are coming undone."

Danag looked at Louis with a shocked expression. "Only you can speak about the Primus in such a way. I do hope it will help the situation."

Louis snorted, "I had to put up with his ass for a century, this is my payment. He is a spoiled brat, isn’t he?"

"I don’t think I am allowed to agree with that."

"Oh yes, you are Danag. And a bit selfish too, isn’t he? Always about what he wants. The Vampire Regions could burn for all he cared."

"He is a good Primus. We have never had a better one. There is no shortage of blood and more importantly, we have such a better chance against the Palers than ever before."

"That’s why he mustn’t be distracted by a human, I am sure that’s what you thought."

Danag nodded his head, "Yes and most of the Lords don’t trust him. If he messed around with her long enough there were bound to be consequences."

Louis placed his hand on his shoulders, "You worry too much, Danag. Let me handle this."

"Please."

"I will try to slowly bring him in. Hopefully, the years we had together still mean something to him."

"I shall leave it to you," Danag bowed.

"Also, the lack of information is throwing me off. I want you to tell me as much as you know and what transpired. We can talk about it after I have rested."

"Of course, I shall ask the servants to prepare a warm bath and a warm meal for you."

"That would be most appreciative, thank you Danag."

"No, I should be the one thanking you."
