The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 315. Remember The Tour
Chapter 315: 315. Remember The Tour
"What do you think?" She asked turning to her sides a little to give him a proper view of the dress.
He didn’t say anything and she turned her gaze to look at him and she saw his eyes flicker as he stared at her.
"Do you really want to know what I think?" He asked with a smug look on his face.
"Of course," she replied, her brows furrowing a little as the suspense made her think it could be something bad.
He pulled her closer so she was standing between his legs. "I think you..." he dragged out, staring deeply into her eyes.
"Yes," she whispered, resting her arms on his shoulders. He pulled her down so she was inches away from his lips.
Mauve blushed, she didn’t have to be this close to hear what he had to say and Mill was just behind her, she was sure the vampire could see everything.
"I think you look much better without anything on," he whispered as he stared up at her but it was still loud enough to be heard from any part of the room.
"Jael," she cried but he sealed her lips with a kiss.
He pulled away, "We should probably go to eat before I get ideas." He smirked.
She smacked him and pulled away but he grabbed onto her hand and stood to his feet. Mill bowed and took a step backward even though she wasn’t in the way.
Jael led her to the door, his grip around her hand was tight but not uncomfortable. Mauve smiled to herself as she walked after him, this felt very good.
He walked out the door without hesitation, mindful of her pace as she didn’t have to rush to keep up with him. They got to the stairs and he pulled her closer to himself.
The door was pushed open and Mauve immediately felt out of breath, she clung to Jael’s hand and he let her lean on him.
She could feel the stares from the people seated at the table and not all of them were welcoming. Mauve winced even if things with her and Jael were so good, she knew there was a bigger wall to overcome.
However, she wasn’t about to let it bother her. She was very used to not being accepted, it was something she always had to deal with.
"Sire," they called at the same time, standing on their feet.
Mauve frowned as she laid eyes on Corbin. His face looked like an overripe tomato on the verge of spoiling. She knew if she put her finger on it, some skin would likely come off.
He looked conscious of it as he immediately turned away and she could see that he tried to use his hair to cover it but there was no way to hide such damage.
She couldn’t help but wonder how he got it, it was definitely severe sunburns but the fact that it was mostly around his face and neck was a bit odd.
However, he was all covered up so there were most likely burns on other parts of his body that she couldn’t see. She didn’t feel sorry for him but was very curious about how it happened.
Jael pulled out her seat and held it. "Thank you," she whispered and sat down.
"Hmm," he replied as he took the seat beside her.
The servant moved quickly as if they had been waiting for the exact moment Jael would take his seat.
"Corbin," Jael suddenly called out. "What happened to your face?" He sounded horrified but Mauve has been around Jael to know when he was faking, it usually sounded excessive.
Somehow she could tell he had something to do with it. She wondered if he did it because of her. Now, she was very curious. She wondered if she could ask him.
"I fell asleep with the window partly open and somehow, I didn’t feel the sun on my face until it was almost noon," Corbin explained without looking at Jael’s eyes, his face was glued to the table.
Jael sucked in air. "That’s going to take a while to heal." He responded.
Corbin nodded, "It burns."
"That’s unfortunate," Jael said without any hint of sympathy.
"Thank you for your concern, Sire."
"You’re welcome and make sure to triple-check your window next time."
"I will, Sire," Corbin said a little enthusiastically, nodding his head as he spoke.
Jael turned away to look at Mauve. She smiled briefly as their eyes met and he looked at her knowingly. With a smooth wink, he turned away from her and paid attention to his food.
If she didn’t think he had anything to do with it, now, she did. With a giddy smile, she dug into her food.
The rest of the meal was quiet, not even Erick spoke but compared to the night before, the guards looked to be in better shape.
Whatever they had to do, she could tell it had been very strenuous. They probably had to fight off a Paler or two, she was glad they were back.
"That’s much better," she heard Jael say as she finished her food. She turned to find him staring at her plate.
"Are you sure you don’t want more?" He asked with a raised brow.
"Jael," she whined and turned away from him. "I am quite fine, thank you."
"Well, if you insist."
She didn’t respond, just proceeded to clean her lips with her napkin.
"Are you ready to go?" He asked.
She nodded, "The food was delicious."
"I am sure," he said and glanced at her plate.
Mauve glared at him and stood to her feet, he repeated her actions. Without any warning, he grabbed her hand and started for the door.
"Sire," Erick called, "There are lots of letters that need your attention."
"I am quite aware of this, Erick. Thank you for your unnecessary announcement. I expect you in my study in a couple of minutes."
"Certainly."
Jael turned away without a response and led Mauve out of the hall and towards the stairs as the guards bowed behind them.
Mauve didn’t say anything as they walked up to the stairs. She assumed they were going to go into either his room or hers but was completely shocked when they headed for the next set of stairs.
"Where are we going?" She asked, looking up at him.
"You’ll see," he replied and glanced down at her. "Patience, Mauve. I see you still lack that."
She glared at him, "It’s a normal question. Most people would ask if something unexpected happened."
"Well, you should learn to go with the flow."
Mauve’s frown deepened, the last person who should tell her something like that was Jael, he was as stiff as a wall and just as unmoving.
"I hear you," she said sarcastically.
As annoying as he was, she couldn’t stay angry for long. She leaned against him as he led her up the stairs. She very much liked being around him and enjoyed how clingy he was.
They stopped at the top of the stairs and she wondered if they were headed for the library. She wanted to ask but she knew he was likely to say something snarky again.
Besides, she wanted to see what this was about. If he was acting this suspiciously, he probably had a surprise or something.
Jael was absolutely terrible at doing nice things and would usually act mean or smug during the process. It was so ridiculous. Besides, she had all the time, he could be as secretive as he wanted to be.
She was just glad with the time she was spending with him, it was worth everything else. She would stop wondering about how long everything would last and just go with the flow even though the advice came from the most unlikely of places.
When they didn’t head for the library but rather another set of stairs, Mauve frowned but didn’t give in to her curiosity. After this set of stairs at the end of the path were the stairs leading to the rooftop.
She frowned, as much as curiosity was getting the best of her, she sealed her lips and continued walking.
From the stairs, she could already see the light, usually the topmost floor was dark but someone had lit up all the lights hanging off the wall.
She glanced at Jael as they got to the top of the stairs but his eyes gave away nothing. He wouldn’t even look at her.
He led her down the bright path and the stairs soon appeared in her view. He led her there and slowly headed for the stairs.
The door at the top of the stairs was open and she could see the stars and what looked like light coming from her garden but she was still too low to be sure.
Mauve felt her heart skip, she hasn’t been to the garden since the incident. She had tried to but somehow she couldn’t bring herself to come back here and the days had gone by faster than she could think about it.
Did Mill mention it to Jael because this was obviously intentional? She bit the inside of her cheeks as the door drew closer and closer.
"Remember the tour I asked for? I know it’s been a little too long but I figured better late than ever."
She nodded, biting down on her cheeks. She was afraid that if she let go, she would cry. Of course, it was a little too late now but who cared?
