The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 311. Babied
Chapter 311: 311. Babied
"Then why haven’t you been eating? I noticed you lost some weight."
"I..." Mauve started but the words failed her as she looked for a suitable reason. "I haven’t really had much of an appetite." Unable to come up with an excuse, she used the truth.
Jael frowned, his eyebrows dipping as he stared at her. "That’s not normal. Your appetite has always been at its peak."
"Jael," she cried. "Don’t say it like that."
"You usually like to eat, I don’t see what the problem is. Though I can’t help but wonder where you keep all that food in this tiny frame of yours."
"Jael," she cried, her face bright red at this point.
"You should eat, don’t worry about the pesky issues. I will deal with them." He said and ruffled her hair.
She sank into his embrace giving him access to mess with her hair. For several reasons this was comfortable.
"You don’t have to deal with all my problems. I can handle them myself." She mumbled.
He stopped messing with her hair and lifted one of her arms, obviously staring at how skinny it was.
"I can see that," he smirked.
"Jael," she cried and pulled her arm from his grasp.
"I want you to eat," Jael said and placed his nose on the top of her hair as he took a deep breath. "How can I feed properly if you’re not healthy?"
She smiled and nodded, "I will eat more."
"Good and if you need anything..."
"I know, I know. I am fine, I couldn’t ask for more right now." She smiled and looked up at him.
His eyes flickered as he looked down at her and Mauve watched his gaze move from her eyes to her lips. It rested there for a couple of seconds before he bent his head and just as he was about to plant a kiss on her lips. A knock rang out.
Jael cussed but the knock didn’t deter him from his plan as he planted a loud kiss on her lips, just as another knock followed.
"Come in," he said pulling away from a blushing Mauve.
"Sire, I apologize for the interruption," Danag said as he walked into her room.
"Don’t bother. What do you want?"
"Hello Danag," Mauve whispered from Jael’s arms, feeling a bit embarrassed as she sat across his legs.
"Mauve," he responded, giving her a subtle smile before returning his gaze to Jael.
"I’m listening, Danag."
"Yeah, right. Lady Francine sent three guards. They just arrived."
"I see," Jael responded, completely uninterested in the matter.
"She also sent a message," Danag added.
Jael raised a brow, "What about?"
"She would like to know when she would be able to get her hand on the drug."
Jael frowned, "I thought she didn’t trust it," he smirked. "Anything else?" Jael asked.
"No," Danag responded, shaking his head.
"What about the guards she sent? Can you use them?" Jael asked.
"No way, she might as well have sent me a bunch of kids. I don’t think they have ever seen a Paler let alone fight one."
"I guess you’ve got your work cut out for you. Better get to work."
"Maybe we should implement some conditions. I don’t want them sending just about anyone. That’s risky. If we want any progress, we will need guards with experience. This would just put the rest of us in danger trying to look out for them."
"That’s why you’re training them first and not just sending them into the wild. Besides, I never said you couldn’t kick anyone out. If you don’t think they would make an improvement. You can always kick them off on my orders."
Mauve watched Danag’s expression change at Jael’s words. He looked shocked and then that changed to appreciation.
"Thank you, Sire," he said with his head low. He raised his head and glanced at Mauve before returning his gaze to Jael.
"This is important for all of us. As casual as I am being about it, this is a war we absolutely cannot lose."
"You can count on me, Sire. I will get them ready in less time."
"Good, the faster the training can begin, the higher our chances of dealing with them as soon as possible. Besides, I intend to implement a few conditions for getting the drugs, you should get better recruits soon."
"Yes, Sire. Also, I figured you’d like to see the fence, they have made significant progress in the past two days."
Mauve’s face brightened and she looked up at Jael with bright big eyes, to say she wanted to see the fence was an understatement, she was dying to see it.
"I don’t think there is any..."
"I want to see it," she blurted out and Jael turned his gaze to her. She looked away from him, bringing her hand to her lips.
Jael sighed loudly, "I supposed it wouldn’t hurt."
"Yes," she said with glee.
"I never said anything about you accompanying me."
Mauve’s face fell immediately and she stuck out her lower lip. This caused Jael to laugh and he stood to his feet with her in his arms.
"Let’s go check out the fence."
She nodded and tried to get out of his arms but he wouldn’t let her down.
"Lead the way, Danag." He ordered.
"Yes Sire," Danag said and started for the door. He got to it and held it open.
Jael walked out of the door with Mauve in his hands. He headed straight for the stairs without slowing down.
She wiggled in his hands, "You can put me down, now." She muttered.
"I don’t see why, besides it’s faster this way."
"No, it’s not." She said stubbornly. "It is embarrassing and I can walk."
"You think it’s embarrassing to be in my arms?" He asked with a look of horror on his face as he walked down the stairs.
"No," Mauve reiterated, thinking of how she could diffuse the situation. "I didn’t say that."
"Then what did you say? Also, this isn’t the first time, right? Now, sit back and enjoy the ride."
"I can walk," she mumbled with a pout.
"I know but this is more fun," he smirked.
She glared at him but stopped complaining and just sank into his arms. Jael adjusted so she was comfortable and walked to the front door.
The guards in front of the door bowed and opened the door to let them out with Danag beside them the whole time.
He stepped out of the door, down the stairs leading outside, and then onto the gravel in front of the castle.
Mauve squinted at the moonlight, there wasn’t much of it. Only a crescent moon stared down at her and it wasn’t letting much of a light.
The front of the castle didn’t look any different from the last time she saw it, in fact, it looked messier with overgrown weeds, a few fallen branches, and trees that spread all over the place. Only the path leading out of the castle looked to be in proper shape.
There wasn’t much time to take in the scenery when Jael started walking toward the side of the building. It wasn’t like she could see much anyway.
As soon as they got to the end of the front of the castle and took a turn, Mauve could immediately see the fence and a gasp escaped her lips.
The first thing she noticed was the old fence had completely erupted and there were lots of building materials stacked in the corner.
It was going to be a huge fence and she wondered how she couldn’t see their progress from the rooftop but since this was on the other side of where the garden was located, it was understandable.
They had completely laid the foundation and she could see a peek of the start of the fencing leading all around.
"They are pretty fast," Jael commented.
"To think they have completely laid out the foundation already," Danag added.
"Haney said he is certain, they can finish in a month."
"A month," Mauve gasped. "How high is it going to be?" She asked.
"As high as possible," Jael returned. "I don’t want to take any chances," he said and looked down at her.
"Can I come down?" She asked.
"No," he said stubbornly, leaving no room for argument. "This place is uneven, you could hurt yourself."
"I will be careful." She returned.
"No, besides, it is too dark for you to see the ground. This is better."
Mauve glared at him, She could clearly see the vampires working on the fence, she was certain she would be able to move around without hurting herself but she didn’t argue and just let him hold on to her.
Also, she liked it when he babied her even though it could be annoying sometimes. She rested her head on his chest as she stared at the fence. This was a good feeling, she could definitely get used to it.
