Chapter 296. Giving Out Orders
Chapter 296: 296. Giving Out Orders
Jael cussed under his breath as he pulled open the door. He didn’t like how unhappy she looked and he didn’t like the fact that she did look like she had a lot to say but kept it to herself.
It bothered him that this was her father, not that he cared what happened to the human but he couldn’t help but think she might see him differently if she found out his plans.
Mill’s eyes widened as he jumped out in front of them.
"Sire," they said simultaneously with a bow.
"You wanted to see us," Mill asked with a small frown. Her brows furrowed in concern.
"Yes, come with me." He said and started walking toward his study.
Mack walked ahead and held the door open for Jael. He walked into the study and sat on the nearest seat which was the couch by the wall.
"Sire," Mister Herbert said as he stopped in front of Jael. "Is there something wrong? It is quite rare for you to ask for my presence."
"I intend to go on a journey for a couple of days. We’ll need at least three days’ worth of supplies to be safe." Jael said without missing a beat.
There was a chance that they would stay in a human’s residence and might not have to worry about their meals but he didn’t want that to be the only food source they had to avoid any delays.
"Oh, of course. When do you intend to leave the castle, Sire?" Mister Herbert asked.
"Not more than an hour from now."
Mr. Herbert blinked as Mill gasped, only Mack seemed unfazed by this information.
Mister Herbert bowed, "I will get to pack," he said and made to leave.
"Wait," Jael said, stopping his movements. "That’s not the only reason I called you here. I am leaving you three in charge, more vampires would be coming into the castle and definitely Lords too, I expect you all to be able to hold your own and keep the castle in proper state as you await my return."
"Of course, Sire. You can count on us." They said with Mack’s voice louder than the rest.
"Herbert, prepare an early first meal for us and you may leave."
"Thank you, Sire." He bowed and immediately rushed out the door.
Jael turned to the twins, "I want you to eat in the dining hall until my return. Mack, I want you to keep an eye on Corbin and Mill never leave Mauve’s side. If you are going to be away from her, station a guard to keep an eye on her. Never leave her unattended, I cannot emphasize this enough."
Mill bowed, "I will do as you have ordered. I assure you, I will make sure she is safe."
"I know I can count on you. Haney shouldn’t give you issues but unless it is a direct attack, ignore him. He would know better than to cause any problems. I will inform Mauve she is not allowed to go anywhere without you."
Jael ran his hand through his hair, this was a recipe for disaster. Somehow, he could feel that something was definitely going to go wrong while he was away but there was no way he could put this off.
First off, the training would begin soon, which meant they would need a lot of blood. Going against Palers is deadly, let alone with amateurs and he can afford to lose even one of them if he wanted to prove that this was a good way to go against Palers.
Secondly, if the Lords don’t get their batch of blood for the month he could only imagine what that would turn out to be.
"Yes Sire, I will protect her with my life," Mill bowed.
"I am hoping it won’t get to that extent," he said with a concerned expression as he ran his fingers through his hair. "Get me bath water and inform the servants and guards of my departure. Also, Mack, I need you to assign guards that would accompany Phelan, I don’t want him spending more than the first meal here. As soon as the first meal is over, I want him out of the castle."
"Yes, Sire."
Jael took a deep breath, "That should be all, if there is anything that needs to be added, I’ll let you know before leaving."
He stood to his feet and headed for the door. Mill and Mack made a path for him, bowing their head as he went past them. He reached the door in three strides and went out without a backward glance.
Jael racked his head as he walked back to his room, he hoped he was not forgetting anything important. Still, he didn’t think there was anything more he could do.
He pushed open the door to his room to see Mauve sitting upright on the bed with her back against the headboard. Her knees were bent and she raised her head to the sound of him opening the door.
"That took a while," she said as he approached her. He merely nodded and kept walking.
"I heard Mill’s voice," she mumbled when he sat on the bed.
"Yeah, I gave her a couple of instructions."
"Okay," she leaned forward, hugging her knees tighter. "You’re really leaving."
"Yeah," he replied with a shrug.
She nodded and placed the side of her head on her knees as she stared at him. He stretched out his hand and tucked her hair behind her ear.
He watched her flinch a little as his cold fingers touched hers. He ran his fingers down her face, unable to resist touching her.
He jerked his head to the door, feeling the presence of Mack and a servant approaching. They were most likely here with his bath water.
He swore internally at the interruption and pulled his hand away, he had to get ready. Leaving on time was the only way he could get this over with and he knew if he dragged his feet, the less he would be pleased about leaving.
