The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 248. Reading The Damn Letter

Chapter 248: 248. Reading The Damn Letter

"Bring the damn letter!" Jael yelled, his eyes flashing.

He was annoyed but at this point, he was curious about the head guard’s adamancy. What could possibly be in the letter? According to Danag enough to annul the peace treaty and the alliance.

Jael didn’t care for the contents. He has made up his mind. Nothing in it could make him let her go. However, Danag’s stubbornness was intriguing.

"Yes, Sire." Danag rushed to his feet and stretched out the letter with both his hands.

Jael snatched it from his grip, "I am guessing this has something to with the fact that you called her by her name. I haven’t heard you refer to her as anything other than Princess before." Jael said as he closely watched Danag.

"You’d have to forgive me, Sire. I can’t say anything until you’ve read the letter. You would understand the current situation better."

"You haven’t read this?" Jael asked, staring at the letter oddly.

"No," Danag said. "The physician told me himself."

"Did you pester him to tell you Danag?" Jael asked with a raised brow as he looked at Danag.

"I wouldn’t use the word pester, Your Grace."

"Oh, then what word would you use? Pray do tell, Danag." Jael asked.

"Persuaded," Danag replied.

"Ah, I can indeed see how persuasive you can be," Jael said sarcastically as he returned his gaze to the letter.

The paper was a bit brown and the seal was a flower. Jael wasn’t sure what kind of flower it was, not that he cared but he was certain this wasn’t the human King’s seal, he could never forget it.

He fought the urge to squeeze the letter as he remembered the last letter he had read from Evan. His eyes flashed and he quickly suppressed the memory.

He pulled at the seal and it instantly gave way and Jael opened the letter. It was longer than he expected. He squinted his eyes and adjusted in his seat as he began to read.

Dear Vampire King,

I, Jean Rosenberg of the house of Rosenberg have done as you have requested and the remainder of the content of this letter is all I was able to find out about the supposed Princess Mauve Grey.

Firstly, she is no princess. She is King Evan Grey’s illegitimate daughter and her mother was a maid in the House of the Aristocrat Cornwell Marshal and according to the source, King Evan had taken an interest in the maid who could read during his one and only visit.

It was discovered months later that she was with child and claimed it belonged to King Evan but no one believed her and she was cast out of the House of the Aristocrat.

However, soon after she bore a child with unmistakable black hair with white streaks blended in. In a bid to keep it a secret, Cornwell took her in again and he kept her secluded but not because he was hiding her but because she had the white disease and he was afraid she would infect the rest of his house. She must have gotten it sometime during her pregnancy.

There was also the fact that he was hoping mother and child would die, and King Evan would be rid of the problem. However, the maid lived until Mauve was five years old.

Knowing she was going to die, she wrote a letter to King Evan begging him to take in his daughter. After several letters, King Evan finally agreed and they left Aristocrat Cornwell’s House.

The journey was made by foot and it took them five days. Barely two weeks after they reached the castle her mother passed and she had lived there ever since.

Most of the people don’t know about her and only a handful of Aristocrats know the full story, so this was a little hard to get. I would prefer if this didn’t come back to haunt me, oh Vampire King.

That is all I was able to find and I hope this is to your satisfaction. If you do have any questions, I don’t mind going out of my way to find the answers. However, I don’t think it would be as easy.

Jean Rosenberg.

Jael folded the letter and ran his fingers through his hair. It felt as though he had finally gotten his finger on the itch that has been driving him crazy.

Everything made sense now, it was like he could finally breathe with his nose and was no longer panting with his mouth.

It also explained her father’s letter. He would prefer she was dead. Jael’s right palm closed, almost crushing the letter.

He took a deep breath and looked at Danag. "What did the Physician tell you?" Jael asked.

Danag looked taken aback, "Did the letter say anything different?" Danag asked.

"Danag, how can I know if you refuse to tell me what the physician told you?"

"I apologize, Sire. It’s not that I am refusing. I am just shocked by your question. He told me she is not the princess and that there is no princess. Mauve is the illegitimate daughter of the King. No one considers her a princess."

"I see," Jael said and brought his fingers to his chin.

Danag looked stunned and didn’t know how to respond to Jael’s words.

"I think we are done here," Jael said and leaned back in his seat.

"Sire, you don’t mean that," Danag said and took a step forward.

"Danag, I can see what you’re trying to do but I am warning you to stop. I understand that you have my best interest at heart but at this point, you’re treading very close to treason and I don’t appreciate it." Jael said darkly.

"Sire, she is not a princess. This is against the alliance. You were promised a princess and instead, you got an illegitimate daughter who has lived all her life as a peasant..."

"Danag!"

"I apologize, Sire," Danag said, his frustration was seeping out.

Jael sighed, the Head guard was getting on his nerves. However, his anger was channeled elsewhere so he wasn’t angry at Danag’s behavior.

"Actually, I wasn’t promised a princess," Jael announced.
