The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 242. Mauve Intrudes

Chapter 242: 242. Mauve Intrudes

"Aaahh!" Mauve yelled as the door opened in her face. She reflectively took a step back, grabbing her dress.

"What are you doing here?" Jael asked darkly. His blue eyes gleamed in the dimly lit hallway.

"I..." Mauve started to say and the rest of her words dried out. Why did he sound so angry?

"Don’t stutter," he said but his voice sounded softer.

"I-I can’t exactly speak if you’re glaring at me like that." She pouted, looking down at her feet. She grabbed the hem of her dress and squeezed.

"I am not... What do you want? I am a bit busy."

"I figured that’s why I was hesitant about coming in. I will come back later." The words were barely out of her lips when she spun on her heel to flee.

"No," sternly. "Stay."

Mauve stopped, she turned with just her head. "Aren’t you busy?" She asked with a puzzled expression.

"Come with me." Speaking the words, he stretched out his hand and grabbed her wrist.

Mauve gasped as he pulled her into the study. He closed the door behind them and it took her eye a couple of seconds to adjust.

She immediately noticed the outline of someone sitting in front of Jael’s desk but since they had their back to her and their head facing ahead, she had no clue who he was.

She turned to look at Jael. "Are you sure this is a good time?" She asked, raising her head back so she could look at his face.

"If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t let you come in here." He said without looking at her.

She simply nodded and kept her head down, not knowing what to say in response

"Sit!" He ordered, pointing to the couch in the corner of the study. It was a few steps before the desk.

Mauve nodded and headed toward it. Just as she got to it the figure in the room spoke.

"Mauve," a familiar voice called.

Mauve jerked in the direction of the voice, her expression a mixture of shock and delight.

"Lord Kieran," she squealed and rushed to him. "No one told me you were here." She grinned at him. "When did you arrive?" She asked.

She stood to his side staring at his face as light streamed in giving her a good enough view of his face. His hair looked longer and he had more than a stubble on his chin.

It was obvious he had not gotten enough sleep in a while. There were dark circles under his pale brown eyes and his lashes were average length but thick.

"Barely thirty minutes ago." He replied, showing a flash of white teeth. "Good to see you’re doing much better."

She nodded and twirled her right arm. "I can barely feel any pain. Thank you for all your help."

"I hardly did anything," he replied with a soft smile.

"Please don’t be so modest, I am very grateful," Mauve replied and curtsied.

Kieran chuckled, "Alright then. I will take your gratitude."

She smiled again and bent her knees, she turned to Jael only to be met with a cold stare. She immediately took a step back.

"I will give you some space. I will be right in the corner." She smiled again and quickly rushed to the couch.

She felt Jael’s gaze follow her but by the time she sat down and turned to look at him, he was already looking away.

He walked around the desk and took a seat with his back to the window. He leaned back against his chair and raised a brow while looking at Kieran giving him the signal to continue.

"As I was saying," Kieran continued. "I will only be able to prepare the amount needed to test out in a week but once I have done that, it should be easier to mass produce in less time."

He touched his hand to his chin, grabbing it with his thumb and index before leaning forward. He moved his hand from his chin and placed both of them on the table.

"That’s good. I will put the meeting around the same time."

"Meeting?" Kieran said, leaning forward slightly.

"Tch! Would you not sound so shocked?"

"Well..." Kieran paused and cleared his throat. "Forgive me, Sire. May I ask what brought this on? You have refused any kind of meeting since you accepted to be King. You didn’t even have one to have an alliance with the humans, you merely sent out letters and visited a few."

Jael shrugged, "It’s about time."

Kieran slightly nodded his head. "As you wish and I am expected to be in attendance?"

"Is that even a question?" Jael said with annoyance in his voice. "You are the head of Xanthus estate, are you not?"

Kieran looked like he was about to argue but he didn’t. "Yes, Sire. You are right."

Jael smiled stiffly. "I will have a meeting with Lord Garth. I prefer the meeting be held in his estate. I don’t want that amount of Vampire Lords in my house again if I can help it. I want you to join me in the meeting, to give insight into our plan against the palers."

At the end of his words, Jael turned to look in Mauve’s direction. He squinted his eyes as he stared hard at her for a second and then looked away.

"Of course, Sire. Anything, in particular, you want me to talk about."

"Not really. You don’t have to mention the process. Just the sedative and how effective it will be. You will probably have to go into more detail in the meeting but just tell Lord Garth enough for him to feel important."

Kieran frowned slightly but simply nodded.

"You may leave, unless there is something else you’d want to talk about?"

Kieran opened his mouth to speak but Jael immediately cut him short.

"If it is about a letter, I don’t want to hear it!" He said sternly, his voice echoing in the small room.
