Chapter 240. Danag Returns

Chapter 240: 240. Danag Returns

"Lord Garth," Jael started as he sat in the drawing room.

He was sitting on a couch and seated directly opposite him was Lord Garth.

"Your Grace," Lord Garth gave another bow even though the was already seated.

"What matter of importance did you want to speak to me about? Whatever I can do to help, I will do everything within my power to carry it out."

Jael smiled with one side of his lips. "It is good to know I can still trust you."

"Of course, you can, Sire. My loyalty has never wavered." Lord Garth replied with his chest in the air.

Jael placed his arms on the headrest and placed his left ankle on his right knee.

"As I keep saying, this is a crucial time, and knowing the people that are willing to go through this with me is of utmost importance but that aside. I called you here today to let you know I intend to rebuild the fence around the castle and I would like your help in doing so."

Lord Garth sat upright immediately at Jael’s words. "Of course, you can leave everything to me. I will take care of everything, the fees included."

"You don’t have to go that far, Lord Garth..."

"Please, Sire. Let me do this. It is the least I can do."

Jael raised a brow, he knew there was no way Lord Garth was doing this out of the goodness of his heart. He was sure the Lord thought this would win him more favor.

Not that he cared what the Lord intended to demand in return. He would only pay what he was willing to pay. Whatever expectation Lord Garth wasn’t his concern.

"As you wish," he said with a stiff expression.

"Thank you, Your Grace." He muttered. "How soon would you like me to begin?"

"Soonest," Jael said with hesitation.

"Then I shall leave tomorrow to begin my preparations."

"No," Jael called out.

"No?" Lord Garth asked, he blinked in confusion.

"I need you to stay one more night," Jael said without offering further information.

Lord Garth squinted his eyes, "Is there a particular reason why?" He asked.

"You’ll find out soon enough but for now, do exercise some patience."

"Of course, Sire. Anything for you, my King."

Jael smiled stiffly as he brought his leg down. "Your loyalty is forever appreciated. That is all Lord Garth, please enjoy the rest of your stay here..."

"Sire," Lord Garth interrupted as Jael started to rise.

Jael froze and slowly raised his head to look at the Lord. He leaned back on the couch, sitting back. "Is something wrong, Lord Garth?"

"No," the Lord said with a hint of a smile on his lips.

"Then may I ask what you’d like to say to me."

"I am just curious, Sire. I haven’t heard anything about you picking a mate."

Jael frowned, "I don’t think I am supposed to announce it until I pick one."

"I do know this, Sire but surely there must be a female vampire you have your eye on."

Jael’s frown deepened. He did not like how causally Lord Garth was discussing this with him.

"Lord Garth!" Jael said sternly but didn’t raise his voice. He wanted to remind the Lord that they didn’t have that sort of relationship.

"Whether that is true or not, I don’t think I should divulge my personal matters except it has been finalized."

"I apologize, Sire." Lord Garth said with a bow. "My excitement got the better of me. However, you don’t have to look so far. My daughter will be more than willing to be your mate. There is no one better."

Jael winced at the familiarity of the words. Everyone thought the same thing about their daughters. Not that he thought less of them but he truly did not care for a mate right now.

"I am certain," he said sarcastically. "Is there anything else?"

"No Sire," Lord Garth said and stood to his feet. "Thank you, Sire for the opportunity."

"I trust that you’d do a good job." Jael said as he stood to his feet, his gaze didn’t waver as he stared at Lord Garth who had his head slightly bent.

"Certainly! Nothing less for you Sire." Lord Garth immediately replied.

Jael simply nodded and turned away from Lord Garth, he headed out the door without a backward glance.

As soon as he stepped outside, a guard popped out of the shadow and bowed.

"Danag and Damon have returned, Sire. They are currently in the study, they await your presence." He announced still keeping his head bent.

Jael frowned a little, they were pretty late. He had half expected them to return last night. Transporting the human shouldn’t have been difficult as they had left pretty early.

However, he couldn’t put off the chance that they were attacked by a paler, that would certainly slow them down. Still, except they had been attacked this night they should have at least arrived before the second meal.

He grunted his response at the guard’s words barely looking at him and turned to his right as he headed for the staircase. Jael took them two at a time on. He was at the top in no time.

Without hesitating, he carried on with the same speed and pushed open the door of the study as soon as he got in front of it.

"Sire," they called out, bowing simultaneously. Damon stood to the door while Danag was closer to the table.

"You’re late," Jael said as he passed Damon. "The second meal ended hours ago."

"It did," Danag answered as he raised his head up.

Jael squinted his eyes and stared hard at Danag. From the looks of this they had come into his study as soon as they ajd arrived and there was no sign of any attack.

"Danag," Jael said darkly. "This is the part where you explain yourself Danag. The fact that I have to tell you this is a bit irritating."
