Chapter 235: 235. Conversation With Sabrina

Mauve’s eyes flew open and she rose to a sitting position. She winced as she felt a sharp pain in her neck. How long was she asleep? She tried to stretch out her neck and felt a bit of relief.

She looked around her room, the only source of light was the candlelight on the table. It was more than halfway gone.

She had laid on the bed after cleaning up and had fallen asleep immediately. Somehow, Jael managed to get her to her room without incident.

She threw her legs out the side of her bed and got out of it. She walked toward the window and poked her head out of it.

She could see it was still dark out but with how dark it was, she could tell it would probably be less than two hours before dawn.

She had been asleep for at least three hours. She yawned and her stomach growled. There was still some time before the last meal of the day.

She rested her palms on the ends as she looked out of the window. She could barely make out anything except tall trees as she looked out.

She moved away from the window and back to the bed. She sat on the edge just as the door was thrown open.

"Mauve," Mill said as she saw her sitting by the edge of the bed. "You’re awake."

"I just woke up," Mauve replied, looking at Mill who was rushing to her.

"I didn’t knock because I was afraid I might wake you up," she explained. She stopped in front of Mauve and looked down at her.

"It’s fine, I have been sleeping for too long anyway. At this rate, I’ll have a hard time falling asleep when the sun rises."

She yawned again and as if to snitch on her, her stomach rumbled. It wasn’t loud but she was in the presence of a vampire, there was no way Mill didn’t hear it.

"You’re hungry?" It sounded more like a statement than a question. "I’ll get you something to eat before the last meal."

"No, don’t," Mauve called out. "I can wait."

Mauve frowned, "Are you sure?"

She nodded.

"Sire wouldn’t be pleased if he found out you were hungry and I didn’t feed you."

"Mill," Mauve cried.

"Fine, I will let it go but only because the last meal is in less than two hours. I could bring you some fruits though, apples."

"I’m fine, what brings you here?"

She shook her head. "Nothing, I was told to keep an eye on you."

Mauve squinted her eyes, "I was just sleeping. What did he think would happen?" Mauve stood to her feet and placed her hand on her waist.

"I don’t mind checking on you," Mill replied.

Mauve smiled, "Thank you, Mill. I think I will go to the library. I will most likely go to the dining hall from there, so could you help me change into a suitable dress."

"Of course," Mill said immediately and walked to the wardrobe.

...

Mauve yawn echoed in the large library space. She placed her head on the table and groaned. Maybe she should have taken Mill’s offer and accepted the fruit.

Her stomach felt like she was being eaten from the inside out. There was no way she would be able to concentrate on reading anymore if she didn’t eat.

She wondered if her feeling of extreme starvation had anything to do with earlier. She blushed slightly and closed the book shut.

She stood to her feet, picking up the book with her. She returned it to the shelf after bookmarking by folding the corner of the page.

She hated to do this but she didn’t have anything she could put between the pages and she didn’t want to take the book out of the library either. It was just for bedtime, she would resume when she woke up.

She picked up the candlelight and walked to the door with it. She placed it on the closest shelf to the door.

She blew out the candle and was immediately plunged into darkness but it was either that or all she would have to take it with her.

She slowly placed her hand on the doors and pushed them open. Light from the doorway streamed in through the open door.

She walked out of the library and briskly made her way down the stairs. She glanced down the corridor of her floor, half expecting Jael to walk out of one of the doors.

He didn’t and she made her way down the last set of stairs. She walked through the huge open space and soon got to the kitchen doors.

She curtsied briefly as she stopped in front of the guards but they didn’t look at her as they pushed the doors open. She smiled bitterly but quickly shoved it at the back of her mind. It wasn’t like she expected the situation to suddenly change, this was the usual.

She stopped in front of the table, unsure of where she should sit but finally decided on picking the same seat as she had for lunch, it was less difficult that way.

She knew she was here a little too early as there was no sign of the servants but it was better to wait here than in the library.

Barely ten minutes after she sat down, the doors were thrown open and Lady Sabrina walked in with her bright straight blond hair.

She caught sight of Mauve immediately and Mauve brought her head down so she would be seen staring.

From the corner of her eyes, she could see the Vampire approach the table. She pulled out the chair and sat down.

Mauve bit her cheeks as she wondered if she should say something or not but the vampire would likely not respond, so it was best if she kept quiet, someone would join them soon enough.

"What’s your name?" Lady Sabrina suddenly said.

Mauve breath caught in her throat as she raised her head. Surely, her ears were deceiving her.
