The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 225. Awkward

Chapter 225: 225. Awkward

Mauve winced as she pulled the thread through the hole. According to Yasmin, she was holding the pin a little too hard but she was afraid it would slip out of her hand if she did not hold it so tight.

Yasmin was busy, Mill said Yasmin had to prep up the rooms for Lord Garth as there was a high chance he wasn’t coming alone, so she was stuck here trying to figure this out on her own.

She scoffed and dropped the pathetic attempt at a hat. The good news was she was getting a hang of it, the bad news was her knitting skills were simply bad.

Yasmin did say it might take some time but she had seen the way the vampire raised her brows and hmmed every now and then, Mauve could tell she might take longer than most.

The door suddenly opened and she jerked to an upright position. She turned to the door, moving her body slightly from the dresser as she wondered who would barge in without knocking.

Mauve squinted her eyes when she saw Jael walk through the door, she should have known. No one else walked in like they owned the place.

"Jael," she called out as he approached her.

"Mauve," he replied.

"Is something wrong?" She asked, blinking as she stared up at him.

Jael frowned as he stopped in front of her. "Did I give the impression that something is?"

"No," she said and looked back at her hands. "It’s just not every day you drop by my room after the first meal."

"That’s not true," he replied. "What are you doing?" He asked, sternly.

"Knitting, at least I’m trying to." She sighed and flipped her hands.

When he didn’t respond, she looked up at him. "I told you about it."

"I remember," he said and walked away from her to the bed.

She spun around to look at him, resting her arm on the top of the headrest. "Are you sure nothing is wrong?"

"How do you feel? Sore, still?"

"No, I’m fine." She blushed slightly and looked away.

"That’s good," he replied. She could hear the smirk in his voice.

Why did it feel so awkward? She wondered. Was it because she had a moment earlier? She couldn’t even explain what had happened if anyone asked her. She just suddenly felt overwhelmed and very anxious.

She turned to look at him and their eyes met. He could at least say something instead of staring at her like that. His unusual visitation was already throwing her nerves all over the place and now he was not saying anything.

She picked up the ball of yarn, placed her terrible hat, and tried to get back to knitting, after three attempts, she knew she wasn’t going to get any work done.

"Don’t you have somewhere else to be?" She asked with a stiff smile as she turned to look at him.

He shrugged and laid on his back, he placed his open palms behind his head. "Not really. I don’t have any letters to reply and Lord Garth won’t be here until before or after the second meal. Why?"

His eyes darted toward her as he asked the last question as if he was looking for something. Mauve shook off the thought, she was most likely thinking too much.

She shrugged, "No reason."

His gaze on her held for a couple of seconds and then he looked away. "I sent the physician away," he mumbled.

Mauve’s face brightened immediately and she leaned forward. "Really?"

Jael glared at her, "Yeah," he replied slowly. "He should leave the castle in a couple of minutes."

"Can I say goodbye?" She asked.

"What?" Jael asked even though she was certain he could hear her.

"Can I say goodbye?" She repeated. It was annoying that she had to ask this. Did he think she would not want to?

"Why?" He asked with a raised brow. "There is no need for you to."

"It’s not about a need to," she said, hiding her exasperation. "He treated me for almost a month, the least I can do is say goodbye."

"Alright then," he replied, sitting upright with his legs on the ground. "Let’s go."

"You’re coming with me?" She asked with a shocked expression.

"Do you have a problem with that?" He asked darkly.

"What? Why would I?" She asked, she arched her head to the side as she tried to get a read on him.

"Okay then, let’s go." He stood and started walking toward her.

Mauve gathered the items on her lap and placed them on the table before getting to her feet. He closed the gap between them looking down at her.

She staggered backward at the unexpected closure, bumping into the chair and almost falling back into it. He stopped her fall by grabbing her waist and pulling her against his body.

"Are you okay?"

If she wasn’t resting her head on his chest she would have glared at him. "I am fine," she said stiffly.

He leaned backward and she looked up at him. Before she could comprehend the situation, he lifted her and planted a kiss on her lips.

He dropped her down almost immediately and grabbed her wrist. He pulled her to the door and she followed without a fight, having barely recovered from the unexpected kiss.

He pushed the door open and walked out, she easily kept up with him, going out the door without struggle. He made sure she was out before he closed the door.

He looked at her and she looked away immediately. She was never sure what she was getting from him. He gently squeezed her wrist before leading her upstairs.

He turned his head to look back at her as they went up the stairs. By the third time, it started to grate on her nerves.

"You don’t have to look back on every step we take."

"I am just making sure," he mumbled and looked back again. He didn’t hide his smirk.

Mauve scoffed, "Whatever." She rolled her eyes and kept her head down. If she can’t see him, he can’t annoy her.
