Chapter 219. Playing Couple.
Chapter 219: 219. Playing Couple.
Mauve sat at the edge of the bed. Should she be concerned? She had not seen Jael all day, he did not join them for any of the meals. Even Danag had showed up during dinner which was relieving as she was tired of being stuck with Damon and Erick.
If Jael was avoiding her, this was an extreme way to go about it. It was basically her fault they weren’t on good terms, he did try to make amends even though his ways had annoyed her.
Did she overreact and ruined everything? She had been pretty angry when she woke but not seeing him all day was concerning and that was more than enough to quell her anger.
Maybe she was overthinking this situation. He was usually grumpy, he has never gone as far as to physically avoid her. She shook her head as she remembered Xanthus’ estate. He would go as far as to physically avoid her.
Would she have to go to him at this point? "Arghhh!" She yelled. "This was infuriating. Why does he have to make things so hard?"
The door opened and Mauve sat up straighter and sealed her mouth shut. She slowly looked to the door to see Jael standing at the entrance, she could tell the instant his eyes landed on her. He just stood staring at her for about two seconds before he walked in and closed the door behind him.
"It is late," he said as he walked to the bedside. "You should be asleep."
She shrugged, "I got enough rest during the day."
This was a lie, apparently, she was terrible at knitting. She found this out after Yasmin had spent about three hours trying to teach her. She knew what she had to do but her hands never moved in the manner that she wanted them to.
Yasmin had been patient even though it was pretty obvious Mauve was a terrible student. The vampire seemed cold and barely spoke unless it was absolutely necessary. However, Mauve thought it was more timidity than coldness.
He stopped in front of her, "Still it is late. You should get some sleep. Your arm is barely healed, there is no need to strain yourself."
She raised her head to look up at him, he looked like a mess and his hair has been hand ran so many times she could see the spaces his fingers created as they went through his hair.
"It is fine, I am usually just stuck in my room, I don’t do anything straining."
His gaze darkened and her throat instantly felt dry. What did she say now? She squinted her eyes, it was annoying how she was always walking around eggshells with him.
"I tried knitting today," she quickly added in a bind to brighten the dark mood.
"I see," he replied and sat down on the edge of the bed beside her.
"Yeah," she said and looked at her hands. "How was your day?" She asked. "I thought you said you didn’t have to be cooped up in the study anymore but I didn’t see you all day."
He did not say anything and she had to turn her head to the side to look at him. She jerked, he was staring intensely at her. It felt like he was caressing her with his eyes and her breath caught in her throat.
"Did my absence bother you?" He asked with a raised brow.
Mauve nose flared but she quickly bottled her anger. She didn’t want to strain the situation any further. She looked away from him, "Not really."
"Is that so?" He asked.
"Yeah," she mumbled and folded her arms.
"You should have come to look for me if you were that worried." He said.
Mauve fought the urge to turn around and look at him. He sounded pretty close. She scoff in response to his words, "Last time you said you were busy. I did not want to interrupt."
Mauve had tried to forget her anger and here he was reminding her. She turned to look at him with her arms still folded. She stared him down with an annoyed expression. Her lips were twisted to the side and her pupils moved up and down.
Jael should be angry, neither yesterday nor today has gone as he wanted but he wasn’t angry instead, he was incredibly turned on and determined to get his way tonight. He already had an annoying day, he was not going to make it worse by keeping up this fight with her.
Besides, his hunger would not let him, whatever blood he had left was between his legs. Considering he barely ate, hasn’t fed, didn’t sleep much, and was practically sex deprived, he was surprised he still has his thoughts in order. Well, at least he thought he did.
Before walking into the room, his plan was to stay away from her for as long as she kept this up but as soon as he walked into the room that suddenly seemed like a stupid plan.
Why would he want to keep this up when he could have her squirming under him, panting his name as he drove into her? That seemed like a better idea than the former and he will definitely forget what had transpired with Danag earlier.
He could barely contain the tingling in his fangs. He wanted to ravish her. One would think he would have gotten his fill but his hunger was still as huge as the first time. It was taking longer than he thought it would. He was not complaining, the longer this took the more fun he could have.
When he walked in, she had been nervous. She barely looked at him and was careful with her words but now she was angrily glaring down at him. Jael nose flared and he adjusted in his seat.
She was tiny and would break if he held her too tightly but she would glare at him as if she would win in a fight. She was also a crybaby and an expensive pet with constant demands but somehow he did not find this annoying.
He took a deep breath and her scent filled his lungs. Jael ran his tongue over his overgrown canines. It was getting hard to keep his mouth closed. He wondered if she knew how much she excited him.
Mauve felt her anger falter as she stared at Jael, she felt like a puppy in front of a huge lion. The problem was this lion wasn’t keeping the fact that he wanted to devour her a secret.
Jael stared at Mauve with a drunken gaze, his eyes moving around her body settling everywhere and nowhere at once. She found it annoying that her body was warming up to his gaze.
"I am never too busy for you," he whispered, leaning forward. She caught a flash of his fangs.
Mauve’s breath hitched and it took her a second to remember what she had said before his reply. His glowing eyes were distracting, she could tell he only had one thing on his mind.
She looked away from him, why was it suddenly so hard to breathe? She knew why. Jael wasn’t hiding his desire, he wanted her to know. She knew if she kept looking at him she would be the one to throw herself at him.
He closed the gap between them and tucked her hair behind her ear. Mauve could swear that her heart stopped and then it started beating five times as fast.
"I just don’t like it when it seems like you’re more concerned about other people than me. You didn’t come to see me even though I told you severally that you could but somehow you had no problem walking through the door to appeal the physician’s case."
Mauve turned her head to look at Jael with a look of surprise on her face. Did he just admit jealousy? Is that what this is or was all this heat causing her brain to overheat?
It wasn’t jealousy for sure and she was just being obnoxious but who could blame her? It was quite hard to think properly when his cold hand was burning a hole in her ear.
His hand moved from her ear to the side of her neck and Mauve felt whatever defenses she had left melt away. Her body was on fire and he just placed his hand on her neck. What would happen if he touched her some more?
As if to answer her question, Jael moved his hand from her neck to the back of her head. His eyes were glued to her lips and Mauve took a sharp breath.
He leaned forward and tilted her head. He looked into her eyes and Mauve could tell he was asking her. How could he, in this position? When it was obvious that she wouldn’t put up any fight.
It made her thoughts fuzzy and made her forget that he might not want her as much as he does now in a couple more months. Made her forget that she had bigger problems. Playing couple was starting to feel a little too real.
