The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 216. Knitting.
Chapter 216: 216. Knitting.
She managed to get to the bottom of the stairs without incident. She quickly made her way to the kitchen and was greeted by two guards.
They opened the door for her without really looking at her and she walked in to discover that Jael wasn’t even in the dining.
Mauve walked into the dining to see Damon sitting. He was the only one in the hall aside from the servants.
"Damon," she said as she got closer and took a seat.
He nodded at her but did not say anything. She didn’t expect any less. This was mostly how conversations with him went.
She looked around, feeling a little awkward and still slightly angry. Jael wasn’t here then where was he? She wasn’t sure if she should be concerned or not.
The door opened and the physician walked in. She had not seen him much except during meal times after he checked his arm yesterday.
"P-princess," he said as he laid his eyes on her.
He smiled at him, "Jean. Did you rest well?"
He nodded as he briskly walked past her. She couldn’t help but feel he was avoiding her. Conversation with him felt a little strained but they haven’t exactly talked much so she was most likely seeing things.
He didn’t seem eager to strike up a conversation with her and She also didn’t want to tell him that she might have failed to get him home as early as she wanted so she didn’t say anything more.
Barely two minutes more, Erick strutted into the room and Mauve could swear that the temperature went up a notch.
His eyes immediately zoned in on Damon even though Mauve was closer to the entrance and she could see the hatred pour out. Damon didn’t stir, he just kept his gaze straight ahead.
Erick stomped into the hall, his footsteps made loud noises as he walked to his seat. He sat next to Mauve and she immediately felt anxious at this.
How bad was the fight that he would rather sit next to her than Damon? He hated her guts.
"Lord Erick," she said as he sat down.
"Hmm," he replied and the servants immediately started serving.
"Wait," Mauve asked, looking around. "What about Jael?"
"He has business to take care of," Erick said without looking at anyone.
"Business?" Damon asked.
I look at him and I am glad to know I am not the only one who doesn’t have a clue.
"Oh," Erick said and placed his elbows on the table. "You don’t know."
"Tch! Are you going to spill or not?" Damon asked with a blank expression.
"Not!" Erick yelled loudly.
"Okay," Damon said and picked up the cutlery as the servants were done dishing out breakfast.
"I would like to know," she said with a shaky voice, afraid that Erick might transfer aggression.
He glared at her, "Danag is back," he replied with menace.
"Danag is back," Mauve clapped her hands together. "Sorry," she immediately apologized for the noise.
"When?" Damon asked.
Erick sneered, "Maybe if you took part in important matters in the castle, you’d know."
"When?" Damon asked again.
"Barely an hour after sunset," Erick replied, he didn’t look too pleased about giving Damon a response.
"That’s early," Damon replied. "Even if he left after sundown, it will still take some time to get here. Is he okay?"
"I don’t know," Erick said with a worried expression. "I didn’t get to see him and both of them have been holed up in the study ever since. Sire said no interruptions, not even for the first meal."
Damon frowned, "Do you think there is some new development?"
"Most likely, Danag has orders not to return unless Kieran makes some kind of breakthrough," Erick replied and scooped some food.
"Hmm," he mumbled as he continued eating.
Mauve kept her head down as they spoke but her ears were all wide open listening to the conversation.
She did not know that Danag had orders not to return to the castle. She frowned as she wondered why.
"Also Lord Garth should be in the castle by tomorrow night." Erick suddenly said.
A/N: I just realized for the past couple of Chapters I have been using the wrong name. I am so sorry."
"I know," Damon said nonchalantly.
"Huh," Erick said and scoffed.
The rest of the first meal ended without any incident and Mauve excused herself from the dining hall.
She walked out of the hall and quickly made her way back to her room. There, she sat in bed staring at nothing in particular.
She wouldn’t have known about this if Erick had not slipped it out. She frowned, wondering if she had any reason to feel left out.
"Mauve," Mill’s loud voice called to her.
"Mill," she replied snapping out of it.
"Are you okay?" Mill asked with concern.
She nodded, realizing that she didn’t notice when Mill walked it. She was certainly losing it.
Mill frowned, obviously not believing her words. "What are you going to do today?" She asked.
"Whatever you want, Mill." She said and threw herself on the bed.
She needed more hobbies but what could she possibly do in this dead place? Also, every time she tried to increase her options, Jael squashed them like a little bug.
"What about the garden?" Mill asked with a bright smile.
Mauve winced, "Unless I want to stare at the growing flowers. Besides, I don’t have to water them until later."
"Library." Mill offered.
"I don’t want to read another book, Mill. I want to go outside."
"I am afraid we can’t do that."
"Obviously, I know. Besides, I don’t really want to go out. I just don’t have anything else to do."
"You could knit?" Mill said with a forced smile.
"Huh," she said and rose to a sitting position.
"What, am I an old woman, Mill?" She cried.
"Well, it’s not a bad idea," Mill said with a smile. "Unless you have something else in mind."
Mauve winced, she did but there was no way she could even suggest it. Not only would Jael tell her it was too dangerous he would also say she wasn’t healed enough yet and that was on the chance that he would agree to it which was highly unlikely.
"It’s not but I don’t know how to knit." Mauve pouted and looked away.
Nobody bothered to teach her and the servants didn’t know what category to place her so most of them had left her to her devices.
"Unfortunately, neither do I," Mill announced proudly.
"Huh?" Mauve yelled out with wide eyes. "Then how am I supposed to knit?"
"Yasmin is pretty good with knitting. I can always ask her to show you."
Mauve winced a little. She had no relationship with the servants. Mill and the three guards were the only other vampires she spoke to.
The rest avoided her altogether and even if she spoke to them they didn’t respond. She couldn’t help but feel weary at another vampire.
"Are you sure about that?" She asked softly. "I don’t want to cause any trouble.
Mill smiled, "I am sure it would be fine. I will talk to her right away."
Mauve opened her mouth to stop but the vampire was already rushing to the door. She sighed and threw herself on the bed.
Maybe, this was a good opportunity to try to have some kind of relationship with another vampire. She might not be able to rely on Mill at some point. What would she do then?
However, being reduced to knitting was a little glum. It wouldn’t be that bad and she would be able to knit whatever she wanted.
She heard a soft knock and Mauve sat straighter. She was more worried about how this will go than how hard it might be to learn how to knit.
The door opened and Mill walked and following behind her was Yasmin. Mauve recognized her and knew her name but aside from that, she knew nothing else about the servant.
They have run into each other a couple of times but haven’t exchanged even so much as a word.
"Princess," Yasmin said nodding as she walked in.
"Good e-evening," she said with a forced smile. She could tell if Yasmin was happy about this or not. Her expression was a little hard to read.
"Good evening, princess," she repeated.
"Please just call me Mauve," she said.
"Okay," she said with a straight face.
Yasmin was significantly shorter than Mill. She looked around the same age but Mauve knew better than to assume. The younger the vampire looked, the older they would be.
"I guess, I would leave you to it. Is there anything you need, Mauve?"
Mauve stiffly turned her head to Mill. Don’t leave me, she almost cried. Instead of saying that she forced out a smile.
"Okay," her face felt frozen.
"Yasmin," Mill said with a stern expression.
"Miss Mill, you can count on me."
Mill smiled, "Don’t hesitate to call for me. If you need anything."
Mill looked at Mauve one last time before she headed for the door.
