The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 215. Still Angry

Chapter 215: 215. Still Angry

He had more of a reason to be angry with her but he wasn’t. She was keeping something from him. He turned to look at her but she still had her back to him.

Jael sighed and closed his eyes, it would be a hassle to fall asleep in his current mood. However, he knew better than to try to force this any further as he knows he would likely get angrier.

It took a while for her to fall asleep. She didn’t roll, didn’t move, just looked away from him for over three hours before she eventually fell asleep.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t sleep. It was grinding on his gears. He already had issues falling asleep but then

He spent most of the day looking at the ceiling in hopes that he would fall asleep.

Jael got out of bed about an hour after sunset. He didn’t get out earlier because the house wouldn’t be awake yet.

He pulled the string as he got out of bed and the servants immediately brought up his water and he washed up but Mauve didn’t stir.

That might also be because he was trying his best not to wake her up. She didn’t sleep until late last night. He wanted her to get enough rest.

He ran his hand through his hair, he felt terrible and the lack of sleep would most likely affect him for most of the night.

He would have to feed if he wanted to get through the night. He winced at the thought of having to drink someone else’s blood.

However, even if they weren’t fighting, he knew he wouldn’t be able to drink as much as he wanted. Not until he was sure there was no repercussion.

He glanced at her on the bed, she stirred a little but remained asleep. He frowned slightly. He had thought he would spend most of the night 215with her but that wasn’t possible.

Lord Levaton would be here by tomorrow night and he might as well start giving orders to prepare for him. He might also go on patrol tonight. A little Paler hunting will cheer his mood up.

A soft knock echoed in his room and Jael frowned, the servants already took his bathing water. He shouldn’t have any interruption until it was time for breakfast.

There was at least an hour before that. What was this about? He frowned, annoyed that he could immediately tell that something was up.

Instead of asking the servant to come in, Jael walked to the door and pulled it open himself. The servant gasped as the door flew open.

Jael’s expression didn’t change. "What is this about?" He asked darkly.

"Sire," the servant said bowing. "I apologize for the intrusion but the head guard, Danag, has returned."

Jael’s brows dipped, "What is the meaning of this?"

"I do not know, Sire but he said to inform you. He is currently in his room as the journey back had been a little strenuous. However, he said to inform you that he would be in the study in half an hour to explain."

Jael’s frown deepened, Danag not only showed up without permission but he was also sent a servant instead of coming to report himself. There better be a good explanation for this.

However, he knew Danag wasn’t the time to disobey a direct order without a good enough reason.

Unfortunately, the only reason he could accept was useful information that would help in the Palers’ wars; anything else wouldn’t be enough to quell his temper.

He knew that couldn’t be possible as he left the Xanthus estate less than three days ago and Kieran didn’t have anything knew.

"Sire?" The servant called when Jael didn’t respond.

"10 minutes." He blurted.

"I apologize, sire but I do not understand." The servant mumbled, he sounded hesitant and worried.

"Tell the head guard, he had ten minutes. He knows better than to keep me waiting."

Jael ground his teeth. He was already in a crappy mood, he didn’t need this to make it worse.

"Of course, Sire." The guard said bowing excessively. "I will inform him at once." He withdrew immediately, briskly walking across the corridor.

Jael kept his eyes glued to the servant’s back until he couldn’t see them anymore before making his way to the study. However, not before giving Mauve one last look.

He closed the door with a soft thud and carefully walked in the opposite direction as the servant had. He stopped in front of the door to his study and pushed it open.

...

Mauve woke up with a jerk. She sat upright and could tell she was alone. The room was filled with moonlight as the curtain was already raised.

She frowned. Did Jael leave without waking her up? Well, usually she woke up on her own but he was usually in the room when she did.

Did he step out because he had something to attend to or this was intentional and he meant to avoid her because of what happened before she slept?

She shook her head and got out of bed, refusing to dwell on whatever this was. Jael often did as he liked, she was used to this now.

She pushed open the connecting door with the lamp in one hand and walked into her room. It didn’t look any different from usual.

She had gone to his room as soon as Mill had dressed her up for the night. She could tell Mill has cleaned up after she left as nothing was out of place.

She sat on the bed and stared at nothing in particular. She couldn’t exactly begin her day until the Mill showed up.

She winced, even if she did it wasn’t like she didn’t know what her schedule was. Library, garden, library garden. Ugh.

She heard a knock and the door opened. Mill walked in carrying a tub and a servant followed behind her.

"Mauve," she cried as she laid eyes on her. "I did not expect you to be here," Mill said. "The king said to let you rest as you might sleep until late."

Mauve frowned as Mill mentioned his name. His caring attitude and standoffish were throwing her off.

"I slept enough." She said darkly. "I don’t need to rest more."

Mill froze a little as her gaze rested on Mauve. "Did something happen?" She asked with genuine concern.

"No," she said stiffly.

"Okay," Mill said and approached her as the servant walked out of the room. "Would you like to have your bath now, the first meal would be ready soon?"

"Wait a minute," Mauve said as the vampire stopped in front of her. "You didn’t think I was awake and you brought bath water."

"Well, I was counting on the off chance that you might be. Also, even if you weren’t, it’s not a hassle to return it."

"Okay," Mauve said absentmindedly and stood to her feet.

"Are you sure nothing is wrong?" Mill asked with a piercing stare.

"No, I already said so."

"Okay, I will stop pestering."

Mauve sighed, "I didn’t mean it like that. I am just tired. Maybe you’re right I should have slept more."

Mill smiled at her. "It is fine. You can always get some rest after the first meal."

Mauve nodded and let Mill lead her to the bathtub. The vampire carefully washed her clean as always before helping her out of the bathtub.

After drying she was dressed in a blue dress. Mill said it brought out the color of her hair and Mauve tried to smile at the compliment.

Mill gathered her hair in a big bun at the top of her hair and Mauve offered her thanks as she stood from the dresser.

It was hard to keep her gaze away from the connecting door as Jael was usually walking through the door as soon as it was time for her to dress up.

She knew it wouldn’t since he had already left before she woke up but it was a little hard for her to keep herself from staring at the door.

"Would you like me to follow you to the dining hall?" Mill offered.

Mauve smiled, "No, it’s fine."

Mill often handled the cleaning of her room and she didn’t want to interrupt her tasks.

"I can find my way there." She immediately added.

"Are you sure?" Mill asked with a concerned stare. "It’s not that far, I can make the trip."

"No, really. I insist." Before Mill could try to convince her, Mauve skipped to the door and pulled it open.

She walked out of the room and came upon the lit corridor. At least it was bright enough for her to make her eau downstairs and to the kitchen.

She managed to get to the bottom of the stairs without incident. She quickly made her way to the kitchen and was greeted by two guards.

They opened the door for her without really looking at her and she walked in to discover that Jael wasn’t there.
