The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 213. Unknown
Chapter 213: 213. Unknown
Jael leaned forward, "Now explain to me why you’d want to leave earlier than the stipulated time?"
Jean was visibly sweating while Erick stood in the corner with a mug to his lips. He didn’t look a bit interested in what was going on. Jael could tell he was glad he could take a break.
"I-I..." Jean started.
Jael glared at the back of Jean’s head. He had no problems letting the physician go early. Though it would be bothersome to transport the physician back here if there was a need to, however, it wasn’t completely impossible.
"Speak up!"
Jean jerked and Jael touched his temple. He knew he wasn’t making the situation any better for the physician but he was in no mood to be considerate. He was still annoyed.
"I-I don’t think there would be any complications Vampire King..."
Jael winced at the title, it was so weird to hear it, only humans ever call him that.
"And if there is, would you take responsibility?" Jael asked unblinkingly.
"Yes," Jean nodded
"Now, Jean," Jael said darkly. "How do you intend to do that if you are miles away?"
"I-I don’t know, Your Grace." Jean’s voice shook even more as he spoke and Jael was surprised that he could hear him that clearly.
The physician’s response was also grating on Jael’s nerves. The fact that the human could be in his presence without fear was starting to get to him.
Jael was about to dismiss him when Jean added, "But I have a pregnant wife and I have been away for quite some time now..."
Jael immediately froze, "You have a pregnant wife?"
Jean slightly raised his head and immediately brought it now. "Yes, Your Grace."
Jael’s brows furrowed. This was the first time he had heard of this. Damon didn’t mention it and that wasn’t like the guard. Not that he cared but this will complicate things.
He squinted his eyes at the physician, he could tell he wasn’t just trying to get out of here. He genuinely sounded like he was telling the truth.
"Is Mauve aware?" He asked.
"No, I haven’t mentioned it to the princess."
"I see. I’ll ask you a question Jean, depending on your answer I’ll consider your request to let you go earlier than planned."
"Yes, Your Grace. Thank you so much."
Jael grated his teeth but kept his expression straight. Without blinking he asked, "What do you know about Mauve?"
Jael saw The Physician visibly freeze and his head quickly turned left and right. "The P-princess?" He asked.
Jael frowned, "Did I stutter?"
"No, no, no. Not much, Your Highness. Almost nothing. I have never heard anything about the princess until the peace treaty and the wedding was announced."
"What does that mean?" Jael’s voice echoed in the room.
"She was hidden before the marriage. I was only aware of the King having two sons, there has never been a mention of a daughter. So, unfortunately, I can’t help you with what information you might need."
Jael brought his hand to his chin as the back of his head rested on the chair. If she was that protected why would he abandon her like that? Was there something he was missing?
"You may leave," he said and waved his palm.
"Um, Your Grace..."
"Physician," Jael called suddenly, interrupting Jean. "If you spill a single word about this or that you want to leave again, I am afraid then you will be really stuck here."
"I apologize," Jean cried, falling even lower. "I bet my life on it, I won’t breathe a word about it."
"Now do your job," he said and Jean bowed twice before running toward the door.
"What was that all about?" Erick asked as the closed door echoed.
"Get me, Damon," Jael said, ignoring Erick’s words.
The vampire slammed his empty cup on the table and Jael turned to look at him with deep blue ears, not hiding his rage.
Erick shrank immediately, "I apologize, Sire but do I really have to be the one to call the vagabond?"
However, even though he was complaining Erick was already moving to the door as he spoke. "The wine was supposed to put you in a better mood," he mumbled as he opened the door.
"I heard that," Jael said and the door closed.
He really shouldn’t care about this as it didn’t affect him but for some reason, his curiosity has been piqued and now he wanted to know what was going on.
A faster way was to show Mauve the letter and get an explanation from her but even he wouldn’t want to see something so heinous.
He didn’t want to put her through that; besides, it didn’t mean he would get the truth from her, whatever that was. He would pay to find out.
Two loud knocks and then the door was thrown open. "Here, he is, Sire," Erick said condescendingly as he walked into the study.
"You called, Your Grace?" Jael said with a bow.
"Yes, the physician said he has a pregnant wife. This was lost in your report."
Damon blinked and his lips formed a thin line. "I did not see how that was relevant and I couldn’t confirm by myself that she was indeed pregnant so I ruled it out of the report."
Jael frowned and leaned forward, "I am pretty sure it is quite easy to identify a pregnant human Damon even if your eyes aren’t working your ears should be."
"There wasn’t any sign that she was pregnant at least not yet and I confirmed from her. She didn’t think she was pregnant either, only her grandmother. I think she used that to convince the physician to come here for the money."
"Oh," Jael said to no one in particular. "I see."
He had assumed she was heavily pregnant. Now, he was just exhausted by the whole ordeal.
"Is there anything else, Sire?" Damon asked.
"No, you may leave but do not leave out even the slightest of reports next time. It messes with my judgment."
"I apologize, Sire," Damon said and turned away from him as he walked to the door.
"Damon," he called.
"Yes," Damon responded, stopping in his tracks. He turned around to look at Jael.
"Erick," Jael called and Erick responded.
"Was there anything weird about the journey back here with Mauve?"
Damon frowned and Erick looked lost in thought for a while.
"Not that I recall," Damon said.
"Well, it does make sense now that we weren’t treated differently even though the supposed princess was traveling with us if she was unknown."
Jael frowned, "What does that mean?"
"It was pretty bad that most of the time we camped outside during the day instead of staying in the inn to prevent this barbarian here from killing them."
"I am pretty sure you were the one who could barely control himself," Damon said darkly, glaring at Erick with a stare strong enough to kill.
"Why am I just hearing about this?" Jael yelled, interrupting their fight.
"At the time we assumed humans hated us, that it didn’t matter if you married their princess or not, we were still vile vampires to them..." Erick said.
"At the time, it didn’t affect the journey so there was no need to mention it." Damon interrupted.
Jael could visibly see Erick struggle to restrain himself from tossing the mug at Damon. It didn’t look like he would win.
"Ugh..." Jael groaned and touched his temple. He was stretched out.
Suddenly, a loud sound rang out as Erick tossed the mug and Damon caught it and crushed it between his fingers.
"I apologize, Sire. I lost it for a second." Erick blurted out and Jael could tell he was distressed by his action. However, he wasn’t sure if it was because he caused a commotion or because Damon caught the mug.
"Get out, both of you," Jael said darkly. He wanted to be alone right now.
Damon bowed and headed for the door without hesitation.
"What about the letters, Sire?" Erick asked as he slowly walked away.
Jael glared at him and the Vampire picked up the pace. "I will check back later." He yelled as he fled out the door.
"The next time you interrupt me again, I’ll smash your face with my fist." Erick’s angry voice passed through the closed door. Jael winced.
"I will like to see you try," the cockiness was obvious in Damon’s voice.
"Speak to me with respect. I am a Lord, you peasant." His voice sounded lower as they walked away but Jael could still hear them.
"Yeah, Lord of..." The rest of the words drowned out as they got too far away from him to hear.
Jael frowned as he leaned back against the chair, it was a little hard to believe they were childhood friends. Well, not really
He winced as a memory of when he was younger popped into his head. He quickly shook it away, he made it a point not to think of Louis again. He had more important matters to dwell on.
