The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 212. Stipulated Time

Chapter 212: 212. Stipulated Time

Jael winced, he could tell Mauve was headed in this direction. His frown deepened at the excitement he felt that she was coming to see him. Her face was definitely better than these crusty letters.

He pinched the bridge of his nose and leaned back against the chair. He could use the distraction. He leaned forward again and glued his eyes to the letter but he didn’t even bother to continue reading, he just held it.

He knew exactly when she stopped in front of the door and that was when Erick realized they had company. Her knock echoed in the dark space and Erick tsked at the interruption.

"Go open the door," he said without lifting his head from the letter.

"Yes, Sire," Erick said, he then stomped to the door and pulled it open. "What do you want?"

"Shut up Erick and let her in," Jael ordered.

"I apologize, Sire," Mill said. "I tried to warn her that you were busy but she refused to listen to me."

"I-I can come back another time if this isn’t a good time." Mauve’s unsteady voice reached him.

Jael dropped the letter and looked directly at her. There was no way he was going to let her go. He could read letters later.

"Just come in. You are already here." His voice sounded harsher than he intended.

Mauve nodded and walked into the study when she got close enough he pulled her into his lap. She squealed.

"What is the matter?"

"Are you sure this is a good time? I was going to come back later."

She looked away from him, twisting her fingers as she sat across his legs.

"Mauve," he called sternly.

"The physician said my arm is healed." She blurted, her face brightening up.

"Is that so?" He raised a brow. Did she really come all the way here to tell him that?

Mauve nodded and slowly looked up at his face. She quickly looked away and he could see the hint of a blush on her cheeks.

"That’s good. Is that all?"

"No, he would like to go back home so, I..." The rest of Mauve’s words drowned out.

Jael didn’t even realize his annoyance had seeped out until she went quiet. He was irritated that she was here because of the physician.

"Jael," she called softly.

He could hear the hesitancy in her voice and his gaze darkened.

"Is that why you came here to inform me the physician’s job is done and he wants to leave?"

Mauve nodded quickly, her fingers clasped tighter around each other. She kept her gaze on his chin rather than his eyes.

Jael’s ears rang. He was irked that he had thought she was here for him and he was even more annoyed that the fact that she wasn’t bothered him.

"Well then, I hear you." He said and lifted her from his legs. He dropped her on the floor and Mauve staggered a little before she found her footing.

"Does that mean he can?" She asked with a hesitant smile.

"He can leave when I say he can leave," he spat out darkly.

Mauve jerked a little and Jael swore. The confined space must be getting to him too. This was no reason to get worked up.

"He is done here," she rushed out. "He already gave Mill instructions on what to do and they are pretty easy, I don’t see why we need to keep him here any longer."

"Mauve," he said, turning around to look at her. "Is there anything else you would like to ask me?"

She shook her head.

"Then you may leave. I am quite busy as you can see." He kept his gaze on his face, his eyes trying to urge her to look in the eye.

"Oh, I am sorry." She nodded rapidly and pulled backward. "I should have waited," she said with a forced smile.

He could see the dejected look on her face and she nodded slightly before walking toward the door.

Erick followed her to the door and pulled it open for her. She looked back at him but Jael didn’t look at her even though the words of the letter blurred in his vision.

The door closed and Jael leaned back on the seat. He knew he was in no shape to return to the letter, he wouldn’t be able to concentrate.

"Ugh!" He yelled.

"Sire," Erick called with a frown. "Is everything alright?"

That didn’t go the way he wanted it to. He was sure Mauve was angry at him or worse and he had been so excited to see her. This was the physician’s fault.

"No," Jael said loudly and sat upright.

"Get me the physician." He ordered.

Erick squinted his eyes. "I am not an errand boy, your grace. A servant can do that."

"Then get a servant to do that, Erick!"

"Yes, Sire," Erick said and stood to his feet.

He walked to the door instead of pulling on the string he just walked out the door. Jael squinted his eyes. Was Erick going to get The Physician himself or was he running away?

Barely three minutes later. A knock resounded in the room. Erick wasn’t amongst the pair outside the door. "Come in," he called out.

"Your Grace, I was told to bring the physician to you." A servant with his head bowed said as soon as he walked in.

"S-Sire," a shaky voice said behind the servant. The physician had his head bowed even though he was still outside the door.

"Where is Erick?" Jael asked darkly.

"I do not know, Sire. He merely gave me the instructions."

"You may leave," Jael said.

"Thank you, Sire." The servant said and slithered away.

"Come in and close the door behind you," Jael ordered.

Jean nodded, walked into the study, and closed the door with shaky hands. He took a couple of steps forward and stopped in the middle of the room.

"Closer, Physician unless you’d prefer I extend your stay."

A frightened expression appeared on Jean’s face and he rushed closer. He stopped about two feet away from the table. His entire being and his loud breathing echoed in the space. He bowed and kept his head down.

"I hear you want to leave," he said with a raised brow.

Jean nodded with his head still bent while keeping his eyes closed and his hand on his chest to still his beating heart.

"So soon, physician. It has been barely three weeks and you gave two months. Wouldn’t that be going against our agreement?"

Jean froze and silence filled the room. The only thing that could be heard was the loud beating of his heart.

Suddenly, the door flew open and Erick walked in. Behind him was a servant holding a tray. The tray held two mugs and Erick literally walked in with a barrel under his arm.

The servant looked completely out of place and she kept her head down as she walked in.

"What is the meaning of this, Erick?" Jael asked but there was no annoyance in his voice, he sounded amused.

"Wine, Your Grace," Erick said with a bow.

Erick walked further into the room and placed the barrel on the table closer to the shelves. The table was in the middle of the room but was to the wall.

"I should have done this since I have been stuck in this damn study." He mumbled and walked back to the door.

The servant had not moved a morsel from where she stood by the door and Erick pulled the tray out of her hand.

"You may leave," he said to her.

She bowed to Jael and then to Erick before fleeing out the door. Erick strutted to the barrel and uncorked it.

The dark purple liquid spilled onto the mug and just as it filled to the brim, Erick switched it with the other mug.

He corked the barrel, placed both cups on the metal tray, and strutted to the table. He looked giddier and his face had on color.

"Your Grace," he said with his head bent as he offered Jael the tray.

Jael took the mug without hesitation and down half the content before placing it back on the tray. Erick smiled to himself and picked up the second mug.

"Physician," Jael called darkly.

Jean jumped, "Yes, Sire."

"You haven’t answered my question," Jael said, picking up the mug again.

Erick drank all the contents in one go and walked to the barrel but instead of walking away after filling his cup, he just stood there.

"It w-would..." He mumbled, Jean knew there was no such agreement but there was no way he was going to tell the Vampire king that.

However, a specific time wasn’t given and it wasn’t completely wrong that the King would want it to be after the princess’s scar has substantially faded.

Jean leaned forward, "Now explain to me why you’d want to leave earlier than the stipulated time?"
