The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 198. Travel Ready
Chapter 198: 198. Travel Ready
Mill wore Mauve her boot as Mauve chewed on an apple. She had wanted to skip the first meal altogether but Mill had insisted she ate something as the journey back would not only be long but also strenuous.
Suddenly, a knock rang out and the door opened to reveal Jael. He stood by the open door as his eyes rested on her. She looked up at him with bright eyes, she could not believe they were really leaving.
"You don’t look ready to me?"
He said.
"I am," she cried.
"Sire," Mill said and stood to her feet before bowing.
Mauve stood on her feet immediately, she wasn’t about to give Jael the chance to cancel this. She crossed the room and stopped in front of him.
His body didn’t move, only his eyes did. They rested on her face and Mauve felt herself squirm under the intensity of his gaze.
His eyes moved to her arm and Mauve followed his gaze. She was wearing a long-sleeved shirt that completely covered her wounds, she also had on some pants and boots. She was travel ready.
He lifted her injured arm and she half expected him to say something about it but he did not. Instead, he brought the back of his palm against his lips and kissed it.
Mauve reddened like a ripe tomato and pulled her hand from his grasp as she glanced toward Mill. Jael, however, did let go of her hand.
"Can you leave now before you change your mind?" She sounded exasperated.
"What gave you that idea?" Jael asked with a blank expression.
"Whatever," she said and tried to walk past him but he blocked her path and pulled her to himself.
"Jael," she screeched.
He bent his head and whispered directly into her ears, "Be grateful I am not carrying you but that can be easily arranged."
The amusement in his voice was clear as day, Mauve was not amused.
"I am grateful for your understanding," she said with a sneer.
He smirked, "I’m glad you understand your position."
"Just open the door already," Mauve muttered.
"Of course," he said and pulled the door open.
The door opened to reveal servants standing outside the door, they stood with their heads bent, and among them was Kieran.
"Sire," the servants bowed. Kieran nodded in Mauve’s direction. She smiled as they made eye contact.
"They will take your bags," Kieran said as she and Jael completely stepped out of the room.
The servant rushed in without any hesitation and Mauve heard bustling as they picked up the bags Mauve had already packed up. There weren’t a lot of things to pack as Mill had only brought necessities.
"Thank you for letting me stay in your home," Mauve said with a soft bow. "I am sure it must have been an unexpected inconvenience and apologize for all the trouble I caused."
"It was no bother, really." Kieran immediately said. "I am glad I could be of help. Too bad you could stay for longer but don’t hesitate to pay a visit. I am sure Walter would appreciate more mouths to feed and that also goes for you, Sire. Please, drop by more often."
"I don’t want to hear that from you," Jael said darkly. "Considering you never visit unless it is important."
He started to walk away while pulling Mauve with him. He led her down the stairs with his hand on her waist. It was annoying to walk with him so close but she knew it would be only worse if she complained.
About two guards held the door open and Mauve walked outside the mansion. The sun had just set and the day still had some light. She could even still feel the heat of the sun’s rays all around.
She looked to the sky as she stared at the orange hue left by the sun. It was pretty and Mauve spent a few more seconds staring at it.
About ten guards were standing directly in front of the house but that was not what had Mauve’s attention. There was a carriage packed out in front, and Mauve’s eyes widened. One of the horses snorted and she jumped slightly.
"Don’t tell me you would have preferred for me to carry you all the way?" He whispered.
"This is fine. T-thank you," she stuttered.
"Hmm," Jael said, he looked a little dissatisfied with her response but Mauve did not even notice as the knot in her stomach twisted even tighter.
"Princess," Danag’s voice pulled Mauve out of her drowning thoughts.
She already had a smile on her face as she turned in his direction. "Danag," she cried.
He stopped in front of her and bowed to Jael. "You can be assured of your safety, I personally handpicked these guards to go with you."
Mauve frowned at his sentence, "Don’t make it sound like you are not coming with us," she replied with a soft chuckle.
"I am afraid I won’t be able to."
"Why not?" Mauve cried.
Danag glanced toward Jael before returning his gaze to her, "I am afraid I do have unfinished business here and I will return as soon as I can or whenever the Sire needs me." At the end of his words, Danag glanced in Jael’s direction.
"If you are done here then we best be on our way. Palers would be out soon enough, we need to be a significant distance away from here by then."
"Yes, Sire," Danag said with a bow.
Damon stepped forward from among the guards and Mauve smiled at him. She did not notice him standing there as she had not wanted to be caught staring. He gave her a slight nod as he held the carriage door open.
It has been a while since she saw him, and she wondered if he came back here solely to guard her back to the castle.
She approached the carriage with Jael leading her and as she tried to get in by herself, Jael grabbed her by the waist and lifted her off the ground into the carriage. Mauve squealed but quickly shut it when she saw she wasn’t the only one in the carriage.
