Chapter 195. An Audience

Chapter 195: 195. An Audience

Half of Jael’s on the bed with his arm under his head as he stared at Mauve. He moved into this position as Mill left. It was so weird to have in the corner just staring.

"You don’t have to wait for me, I’ll join you in your room as soon as I finish here," Mauve said and folded her legs as she stared at him.

"It’s no problem, I can wait." He said and shrugged.

"I know you can but it is almost time for my bath." She mumbled.

"So," he said and lifted his body. He scooted closer to her. "It wouldn’t be the first time."

She bent her head down. "I don’t recall," she lied.

"I do," he replied and laid back on the bed. "That settles it."

"No, it doesn’t." She yelled and stomped her foot on the bed.

Jael turned his head to look at her. "Would you prefer I wasn’t here?" He asked.

Mauve didn’t waste any time nodding.

He squinted his eyes, turned away from her, and closed them. "I am not leaving though."

"Then why did you ask if you’re not going to do as I want?" She pouted.

He shrugged again. "It’s just a bath, Mauve. Stop making a fuss. Besides, you saw me bathe last time."

"I was asleep," she blurted.

"Ah," he smirked. "Well then so am I."

He opened one eye, peeked at her, and then quickly closed it. Mauve sighed and leaned against the board. It’s not like she didn’t want him but Jael wasn’t going to sit quietly while she took her bath.

Well, technically that is exactly what he would do. However, his eyes were something that bothered her. He peeked at her again and she caught sight of the sapphires as they stared at her.

She could never get over how the color of his eyes changed with his mood. Now that he was relaxed they were a deep blue. When he was excited they were a lighter shade. She blushed as she remembered last night and the glow in his eyes.

"What?" He asked suddenly.

Mauve gasped as she realized he was staring at her. "Nothing," she muttered and looked away.

"Hmm," he responded but didn’t pester.

A soft knock and the door was immediately thrown open. Mill walked in and a guard followed behind her. They simultaneously bowed.

The servant looked shocked and Mauve was surprised he was able to recover quickly to Jael’s presence but as soon as he dropped the bucket of water he fled the room.

"Are you ready for your bath now?" Mill asked.

Mauve looked at Jael and he stared back at her with a raised brow. He remained unmoving on the bed and Mauve knew there was no way she would be able to kick him out.

She rolled her eyes and threw her legs out the side of the bed, Mill helped her to her feet. He could do whatever he wanted. All she just had to do was pretend he wasn’t here. That should be easy.

Mill walked fast, helping her out of her clothes. She stood in front of the bed, completely bare with her back to Jael. She could feel his eyes on her back. Mauve sighed loudly, there was no way she could pretend he wasn’t in the room.

"Mauve?" Mill called. "Is everything alright?"

"Yes," Mauve replied and turned over her shoulder to glare at Jael. He smirked in her face and she scoffed and looked away.

She quickly made her way to the tub without a backward glance. She stopped in front of the tub and got in one foot at a time. The water was warm just as she liked it and a sigh bubbled out of her as she sat down.

She leaned her head back as she relaxed. The water rose to her bosom but it was high enough to cover them. She felt her skin slowly warm up and she hung out hands out the sides.

Mill started with her hair, she slowly washed it, kneading her scalp carefully. Mauve heard herself sigh at the feel of fingers on her scalp.

Suddenly a bolt of electricity caused goosebumps to pop out of her arms. Mauve’s eyes immediately flew open and saw that Jael was no longer lying on the bed with his back, rather he was lying on his side and staring hard in her direction.

Mauve immediately closed her eyes, she was definitely ignoring him but it was hard to do as she could easily tell where he was staring and right now, her chest was on fire.

For some reason, Mill took her time washing Mauve’s hair and she had to fight the urge to scream at her to hurry up. Finally, the vampire wrapped her hair in a towel and hung it at the top of her head.

It held and she proceeded to wash the rest of her body. After what felt like forever, Mill announced that she was done and helped Mauve out of the water.

The wrapping on her head still held and Mill quickly picked up another towel to use to dry her up.

"Mill," Jael immediately called.

Both of them reacted in the same manner with shock. Even though Mauve had been painfully aware of his presence, it was still shocking to hear his voice.

"Bring her to me," he ordered.

Mauve opened her mouth to protest but immediately shut it when she took one look at his face. He looked like the slightest thing would likely piss him off.

"Yes, Sire." Mill said with a bow and led Mauve to the bed with a towel on her shoulders.

Jael’s eyes never wavered from her body as approached him. He stared at her from her head to her toes while Mauve looked everywhere except him.

She stopped in front of him and Jael moved to a sitting position. "Leave us, Mill."

"Huh? Why?" Mauve asked in a panic.

"Yes, Sire." The vampire was gone before she could say anything else.

"Or would you have preferred her to stay?" He raised a brow. "I’ve never considered an audience before."

"What are you talking about?" She asked in horror. "I would like to get dressed, that’s what I want."

"Too bad," he mumbled and pulled her closer.
