The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 193. I Might Be Forgiving
Chapter 193: 193. I Might Be Forgiving
Mill looked like she had seen a ghost, Mauve was not sure how that was possible as vampires were already paler than normal. The vampire’s reaction made her briefly forget why she was embarrassed.
Mauve quickly bent her head forward, "Sire," she cried. "I-I didn’t know you were here," her voice sounded unsteady.
"I am sure," Jael’s voice sounded stern.
Mauve frowned and turned around to look at Jael, that was when she remembered she was on his lap. She immediately tried to stand up from his feet but he prevented her from moving.
He held her still and Mauve had no option but to stop struggling. The situation was already awkward enough. She returned her attention to the tension in the room, something was definitely wrong.
"Was that Danag you were speaking to?" Jael asked casually.
Mauve noticed Mill’s hands on the tray tightened, she still had her head bent and stood unmoving by the open door. "Y-yes," she replied.
"Wow, your brother must have been quite troublesome. We will have a word about this after you’re done with Mauve."
Mauve turned her head over her shoulders to look at Jael and then back to Mill. Her expression was one of confusion. She did not know if she should ask questions, she didn’t even know if she could ask any questions.
"Y-yes Sire," Mill responded.
Jael lifted Mauve and placed her on the bed beside him. She yelped at the unexpectedness of it. He tucked her hair behind her ears and softly touched the side of her face.
He stood to his full height but his hand remained on her face. "Make sure to eat properly, you need all the energy you can get." There was a twinkle in his eyes as he spoke and his voice sounded hoarse.
"I know, you don’t have to tell me."
He pulled his hand away and walked toward the door. Mauve was surprised he did not stay for longer but she was also glad, she did not want him to spend another minute in this room with her.
Mill moved out of the way as her Jael got closer. Mauve noticed she did not once raise her head. Jael turned the handle and glanced at her, she glared at him and he smiled.
He turned away from her and before he walked out of the door, she saw his gaze darkened as it rested on the back of Mill’s head and then he was gone.
Mill gasped loudly as the door closed, she slowly stood to her full height and Mauve could see fear in her gaze. Her eyes looked shrunken and her already white eyeballs looked even whiter than her pupils looked smaller than normal.
"Mill," Mauve called softly. "Are you okay?"
"Ah, yes." The vampire replied, snapping out of the trance. She forced out a smile but it looked more like a creepy doll was smiling.
Mauve winced, "Are you sure? You don’t look okay? Did something happen between you and Jael?"
"Oh no, nothing of that sort," Mill replied and walked forward.
The tray clattered as it landed on the table, Mill didn’t even bother to check if anything spilled as she walked away from the side of the bed, she pulled a chair closer to the bed and sat on it.
"Are you sure?" Mauve asked, still concerned. "You look shaken. I would like to help if I can."
"Oh, don’t worry about it. Let’s get you fed, you must be hungry."
Her smile didn’t reach her eyes and Mauve forced herself to not ask more questions. It was obvious Mill wasn’t going to tell her and she didn’t want to agitate Mill any further.
She picked up the cutlery but it fell out of her hands. Mauve frowned, getting really worried. Mill tried again and this time around she succeeded.
Mauve would have offered to do it herself but she wasn’t sure she would be able to without making a mess.
Mill scooped some of the food and turned to look at her with a forced smile. "Open up," she said.
Mauve obeyed and ate quickly. As soon as she was done. Mill packed up the plates and stood on her feet. "I will be right back as soon as I am done," she muttered.
Mauve opened her mouth to speak but Mill was already heading out of the room. The sound of the door closing echoed in the quiet room as she was left by herself with nothing but the candlelight for company.
She adjusted on the bed and picked up a book, wondering what this was about. She would probably have asked Jael but like Mill, she doubted he would tell her what was going on.
She was concerned still, she had never seen Mill like this before. Not only was the vampire agitated, but she was also visibly shaken.
She kept her gaze on the book. If Mill isn’t better by the time she returned, she would try to find out by all means what the problem was and if there was any way she could help.
...
Mill took the stairs two at a time as she rushed to the kitchen. A servant answered her and before they could even stretch out their hands to accept the dirty dishes. She dumped the tray on them and fled back the way she had come.
She fled back up the stairs and quickly made her to the King’s room. She knocked once, and twice and got no response.
She frowned and quickly made her way down the stairs. If he wasn’t in the room, the only other two places she could think of were the basement and the drawing room.
The basement was completely out of the question as only certain guards were allowed down there even she had no idea what went on there except that Kieran tended to spend most of his time there and His Grace was often with him.
She stopped in front of the drawing room and held her breath. She could hear voices and one of them sounded like Lord Kieran. She adjusted her dress and slowly lifted her hand to knock.
She froze as she realized the voices had stopped speaking and before she could speak, the door threw open and Kieran appeared.
"Mill," he said with a puzzled expression. "What are you doing here?" He asked. "Is something wrong with her?"
"I called for her," His Grace replied. He was standing in the corner of the room looking out the open window. His voice wasn’t even a little raised.
"Sire," Mill immediately bowed with her eyes tightly closed.
She opened and closed her palm as she stood just outside the door. His calm demeanor worried her more than an outburst. There was no way she would be able to survive this unscathed.
She should have told the King as soon as she knew what Danag was plotting. Now, she was about to get punished for it. However, it wasn’t the punishment that bothered her, it was the fact that His Grace might lose any trust he has for her and that bothered her.
Well, technically, they didn’t do anything wrong but it didn’t completely wipe off the stains, and stains were stains even if it was just a little amount.
Her mind churned rapidly as she wondered how this was going to go. This was the first time she would have to face him with guilt in her heart.
"Ah, I see," Kieran replied and stepped to the side.
Mill took a step forward and she could see out of the corner of her eyes that Kieran was staring at her with a weird expression.
"Do I leave? I can always come back another time, Sire."
Mill bit the inside of her cheeks, she didn’t think she would be able to handle this alone. It would be preferable for her if there was somebody else other than the Sire in the room with her.
"There is no need for that, Kieran. This shouldn’t take long, right Mill?"
"Y-yes, Sire." She responded and took another step forward.
His Grace walked away from the window and walked closer to where she stood. He took a seat, his eyes never leaving Mill.
"Have a seat, Mill." He said casually.
"I am fine here, Sire." She responded, keeping her gaze glued to the ground.
"What’s going on here?" Kieran asked, looking from Mill to Jael.
"Well, we are about to find out." He said casually and leaned back against the couch. "Have a seat, Mill. I don’t want to repeat myself again."
Mill nodded quickly and moved to the farthest seat from him. She sat down and looked away from him.
"Now Mill," he said when she was properly seated. "Do tell me what you and Danag were talking about. Depending on what I hear, I might be forgiving."
Mill swallowed and slowly raised her head. She should have known this would come back to bite her in the rear.
