Chapter 133. Going Back Home

Chapter 133: 133. Going Back Home

Mauve tried to tie her hair up. It was harder than she had imagined and no matter what she did, it refused to obey her commands. She groaned and scoffed.

"Are you sure you don’t need my help?" Jael offered as he leaned against the wall staring at her.

"Jael," she said softly. "Have you ever helped someone with their hair before?" She asked, exasperated. She was annoyed that he was talking to her even though he could clearly see her struggling.

"No, but there is a first time for everything."

"That’s what I thought about the horse," she said with a sneer.

He walked forward, "Aren’t you a swellhead?" He said and kissed her cheeks.

"You are not helping!" She cried. "You’re the one who is going to have hair in your face if I don’t tie this up properly."

"Fine," he said and took a step back. "If I had known it was this difficult I would have asked Mill to accompany us."

"I am almost done. If you will stop talking to me for a few minutes."

A knock caused Jael to walk away from her and toward the door. He threw it open and Damon appeared in front of him.

"Sire," Damon said with his head bent.

"We are almost ready on my end, I think." He said and glanced at Mauve.

"All done," she suddenly announced and rushed to him.

Jael eyed her work, "Mill did a better job." He said without hesitation.

Mauve didn’t think, she just smacked his chest. "It’s not my fault I can’t see the back of my head."

She turned to see Damon looking at her with a shocked expression but he quickly covered it up.

He grabbed her and held it. "It isn’t just the back," he smirked.

"Whatever," she replied.

He let go of her hands and picked her off her feet. She squealed but quickly covered it as her eyes met Damon’s eyes. She quickly looked away, reddening.

"At least let me walk down the stairs." She mumbled.

"What difference does that make? The bags are in the back, Damon." Jael said and started heading out the door.

"Sire," Damon said, standing in the path.

Jael stopped frowning, "Yes," he answered.

"Lady Jevera said you ordered her not to return with us." He said.

Mauve gasped, "Why?" She asked before she could help herself.

"Yes," he said, ignoring her words.

"I see, I just wanted to confirm, Sire. I apologize for the intrusive question."

Jael shrugged and Damon moved out of the way. He walked out of the room without looking back.

"Why did you ask Lady Jevera to stay behind?" Mauve asked, her heart in her throat as she spoke.

He took a while to respond, she almost thought he would not answer her. "That’s not for you to worry about."

She nodded, she knew if she pestered she was likely going to piss him off. "Okay," she glumly replied.

She stared ahead as they walked down the stairs. Servants were already gathered on the floor and she could see Lord Levaton and beside him was his daughter.

"Thank you Sire for gracing us with your presence." Lord Levaton said with a bland expression. His bright words didn’t match the look on his face.

"Your hospitality was brilliant. I might pay another visit." Jael stopped at the end of the stairs.

"I know you don’t mean that Sire but if you do my doors are always open." Lord Levaton said with a bright smile.

"Good to know," Jael said and walked toward the front door. A guard threw it open and Jael headed out.

"I hear," Lord Levaton said just before Jael got to the door. "That you had requested that my daughter remained here."

Jael slowly turned around. "I figured since she has been away from you for so long, you must miss her greatly."

Jael said, looking toward Lady Jevera.

The expression on her face since Mauve noticed Lady Jevera had been the same and even as Jael stared at her, her expression didn’t change.

Lady Jevera looked down at Mauve as she was cradled in Jael’s hands and she felt cold.

"Of course, an old vampire like myself would always want my family close."

"Alright then, I bid you farewell." Lord Levaton.

"Thank you so much." She mumbled under my breath. She wasn’t sure if she could talk in this circumstance but it would be ungrateful of her to not thank Lord Levaton.

"You’re welcome," he said, peering down at her.

Mauve blushed at his reply and nodded her head. Jael turned away immediately and walked out of the room. Mauve thought the moon was exceptionally bright tonight. She hoped they would get to the castle fast enough.

They got to the main gate in no time, even Jael seemed eager to go home. Mauve settled in his arms as the wind got stronger.

Jael slowed down and held her tighter. Mauve immediately opened her eyes, for some reason she could tell something was wrong.

"Damon," she heard his voice. Were they running side by side?

"A paler, Sire. I can sense it and smell it. Why does it smell so strongly?"

"It must be close," Jael replied.

"What do we do?" Damon asked.

"It isn’t safe with Mauve here. Let’s try to outrun it."

"Even if we do, it will track us to the castle."

"Hell’s gate!" Jael stopped. "Stay here, Mauve." He said dropping her behind a rock. "Don’t move!" He ordered.

She nodded vigorously, she would be crazy to move. She scooted closer to the huge rock, hoping she could hide in the shadow.

"I will be right back," he said and touched cheeks.

She wanted to say he should stay with but if Jael thought it was best to stop and fight then she would huddle in the corner like a quiet little lamb.

She hugged herself as she tried to still her beating heart. She tried to convince herself she wasn’t scared as she watched Jael walk away.
