Chapter 126: 126. Under The Sun (Bonus Chapter)
Jael leaned forward as he spoke, his gaze on Lord Levaton didn’t sway. "Pray to tell me why you called me all the way here, I assume it must be quite important. Too important to not tell me immediately, Lord Levaton."
"Always impatient," Lord Levaton said with a sly smile. "Indeed it is quite important, Sire, important enough to not discuss during a meal. I don’t intend to ruin the mood and you’ve only just got here, it would be rude to discuss such matters before you’ve gotten a proper rest. I would be happy to tell you all about it tomorrow night."
"I don’t see the need to wait that long," Jael said sternly.
"I do. You haven’t been here in forever. I fear you will leave as soon as the discussion is over."
"It’s a little eerie to hear that you also want my presence here for my company," Jael said and moved his eyes from Lord Levaton to his food.
"Your words stab at an old vampire’s heart. Your company is always welcomed, my King and I am grateful you accepted my invitation."
"You didn’t exactly give much of a choice," Jael said and stabbed into his food.
"I apologized, Sire, that it seemed that way. I truly wanted you to come of your own volition."
"Is that so?" Jael said and looked at Jevera who for the first time since the start of the meal avoided his gaze. "Not that it matters anymore."
He glanced in her direction and Mauve immediately looked down. She was glad Lord Levaton wasn’t asking her so many questions as she had been worried he might ask a question she might not want to answer.
However, she had been glad he was speaking to her. Aside from Mill and the three guards no other vampire would speak to her let alone go as far as to have a conversation.
Formerly, she would get occasional comments from Lady Jevera but now all the vampire did was glare at him. She had given up on trying to make their relationship any better. Besides, she was used to being shunned. That’s why Lord Levaton bothered her so much.
She looked in Jael’s direction to see his gaze was still on her. She blinked and looked away. It was bothersome the way he stared at her. No matter the situation, she could always tell he was thinking of things that were appropriate during meals.
She finished her food but remained seated, she didn’t want to have to go by herself to the room. She doubted she could find her way with how dark it was. She could if she had to but she wasn’t that desperate.
She leaned into her chair and looked at Jael. Only to see he had also finished his meal and was just staring hard at her.
"Would you like more?" He asked expressionlessly.
Mauve frowned, she didn’t think she had been eating so gluttonously that he would assume she would want more. "No," she said with a glare.
He stood to his feet, grabbing her hand as he stood up. She had no option but to stand up with him.
"I will retire for a while."
"Of course, Sire. Please let the servants know if you need anything."
"Thank you for the meal," Mauve said with a curtsey before Jael pulled her away.
The door of the dining room closed behind Mauve and she knew there was no way she could make it to the room going at this speed, she was bound to hack out her meal.
"Slow down, Jael. I am a little too full to go at this pace."
He stopped abruptly and she almost smacked into him. He turned to look at her, his blue eyes peering down at her.
"Is-is something wrong?" She asked.
"Since you may have overeaten..."
"I didn’t overeat," she interrupted.
Jael continued as if she had not said anything. "You cannot take a nap in this state, come with me."
Mauve sealed her lips, resisting the urge to ask where he was taking her. She knew he wouldn’t respond. He made a turn and headed for the front door.
Was he taking her outside? On purpose. She held down her excitement and hurried after him, not even angry about the fact that he was walking at a pace she couldn’t keep up easily with.
"Sire," two guards standing in front of the doors said when he got close enough.
"Open the doors," he said.
As soon as the words left his lips, they moved to obey his order and they threw the doors open. Mauve stared hard outside the door. It wasn’t too dark, from where she was standing, she could make out the outline of things.
He took a step forward and she followed after him. He led her out of the house and to the side. Her shoes made a crunching sound as she stepped on the gravel. She remembered that he had carried her here.
He pulled her to the side of the house and Mauve gasped at the view. It was a huge garden, nothing compared to the tiny empty section on the rooftop.
"Oh my word, it is beautiful."
Jael stood to the side with his hands crossed.
She walked closer to it and ran her hands over the flowers. She wished she had better light, the darkness wasn’t doing it enough justice. It reminded her of the garden back at home.
"Do you think I can come to see it in the daylight?" She asked, looking up at him.
His bland expression darkened, "You can see it just fine now."
"Yes," Mauve said, turning her head back to the flowers. She bent and touched one. "But I am sure the garden will look so much better under the sun."
She glanced up at him with a smile that instantly vanished when she saw his expression. "Or not." She immediately said, "I am glad I got to see this."
"Hurry up, we should go back in."
She nodded, her expression slightly sour.
