Chapter 125: 125. Lord Levaton (Bonus Chapter)
Jael closed the door with a soft thud and turned his attention back to Mauve who was sitting on the bed. She was glaring at him.
"What?" He asked.
"You could have asked me," she mumbled.
"You are tired," he said and touched her chin.
"Yes, but it would be rude to refuse Lord Levaton’s request after he asked for me. Besides, it won’t take forever."
"Well, you’re not completely declining. You will go for the last meal after you’ve rested."
"I can always rest after the second meal. Besides, I’ll probably be stuck in this room all night."
He dropped his hand from her chin as though she had burnt him. A knock turned their attention to the door. Jael was by the door side in less than two seconds.
He pulled open the door a little forcefully, "What?" He asked harshly.
The servant jerked, "My apologies, Sire." The servant said bowing low enough to touch the ground. "Lord... Lord Levaton says it would please him greatly if she would be able to join him for the second meal."
Jael turned around slowly, his gaze cold as it landed on Mauve. "Tell Lord Levaton she can spare a couple of minutes."
Mauve tried not to roll her eyes at Jael as he spoke. It wasn’t like they were actually asking her. They were asking Jael for permission. It was annoying how it seemed like she had a say in the matter.
"Ah, thank you, Sire. I will relay your message to Lord Levaton."
Jael closed the door without looking back at the servant. "Are you ready to leave?" He asked while still standing by the door.
"I suppose," she said and stood to her feet.
She walked toward him and stopped directly in front. It was annoying to look at his face because she had to bend her head all the way to the back.
"Happy now?" He asked, sarcastically.
"No, I would rather take a nap."
"You could have had that option." He said and opened the door.
"I was joking," she said and walked past him.
Unfortunately, she had to wait as she had no idea where she would go from here. She heard the door close but didn’t turn around. His cold palm wrapped her wrist and he pulled her.
Mauve gripped her dress and followed after him. She bent her head as he led her down the path and the stairs. She scrambled to keep up with his pace.
She swallowed her complaints. He was trying to show her this was a bad idea for some reason but if it was why did he agree to let her come with him? She was glad she did though, she didn’t exactly like the idea of being at the castle when he wasn’t there.
"Sire!" Mauve heard as soon as they walked into the dining room.
It was smaller than the dining room in Jael’s castle. There was only one table in it and even though there were about ten people in the room, only three stood by the table.
"I was afraid you wouldn’t join us for the second meal." Lord Levaton continued
"Excuse the delay," Jael said.
"It’s no problem, your grace. I assumed the journey must have been stressful and I apologize for not giving you enough time to rest."
Jael shrugged and walked to the side of the table where Damon sat, pulling Mauve with him.
"Sire, please sit here." Lord Levaton said, pointing to the seat at the shorter end of the table.
"I am quite fine here," he said and plopped onto the seat next to Damon. He gestured for Mauve to sit next to him, his grip on her wrist tight.
Mauve managed to give a haphazard curtsey with Jael holding onto her hand. "Thank you for having me," she mumbled before dropping to the seat and Jael let go of her hand.
"You’re welcome," the old vampire said as he took his seat.
Mauve jerked her head up, she had not expected a reply. Lord Levaton however wasn’t looking at her, he turned his attention to the guards and gave them a signal.
Beside Lord Levaton sat his daughter, Lady Jevera and Mauve immediately brought her eyes down when their eyes met. As usual, the look she got wasn’t good.
The servant served them quickly. Mauve caught a whiff of the aroma and her stomach made a soft sound. She blushed, hoping it wasn’t loud enough for anyone to hear. She waited until everyone began to eat before she dug into her meal.
"So, Human princess," Lord Levaton suddenly called as she carefully chewed on her third bite.
Mauve froze and hurriedly swallowed her meal to answer. "Yes."
She wasn’t sure how to address him so she did add an honorific. Also being addressed by that title was a little cringy. She glanced at Jael expecting him to say something but he had his eyes glued to his food.
"How do you find the vampire regions?" He asked, staring intensely at her.
Mauve’s hand shook as she held the cutlery. "Very fine, thank you." She said with a bright smile, surprised her voice sounded steady.
"How is it compared to the human kingdom?" He asked immediately, his gaze never leaving her face.
Mauve chuckled awkwardly, "I wouldn’t compare the two. Tis is very different from the Greenham Kingdom."
There was no way she would refer to her father’s country as the human kingdom. The thought sent a shiver through her. She was certain they knew the name but that wasn’t the top of her worries. Why was Lord Levaton having a conversation with her?
"Yes, you are right? You must miss home?"
"Lord Levaton," Jael called suddenly, she didn’t even get a chance to come up with a response. Mauve could swear the room dropped a few temperatures.
"Surely, you didn’t call her here to have such a mundane conversation. Speaking of why we are here. Pray tell me why you called me all the way here, I assume it must be quite important."
