The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 120. Where Are The Horses?

Chapter 120: 120. Where Are The Horses?

"Mauve," Jael called as he threw the connecting door open. "Are you ready?"

Mauve nodded as she sat up from the bed, "Yes, I am."

She turned to look at Jael as he walked closer to her and felt herself grow warm. He was wearing a coat. Mauve realized she had never seen him wear a coat before. The most she has seen him in is a shirt, half the time he was usually gallivanting around her shirtless.

His boots made a slight sound as he approached her and she only heard it because she was listening intently. He didn’t stop walking until he stopped in front of her.

"Mill really covered you up," he said and adjusted the scarf on her neck.

"Yeah," she said and leaned forward against the scarf, her gaze down. "She said it was going to be windy."

"She is not wrong about that," he said.

She was dressed in thick clothes and pants. A pair of boots she had never seen before but was surprised it fit her so well. She didn’t ask questions as Mill dressed her up, she just went along with it.

Her hair had been compressed and tied behind her back to prevent it from going everywhere. Mill wanted her to wear a hat but Mauve had declined.

Mauve jumped a little when his hand touched her face. He gently lifted her chin and kissed her. He broke the kiss and asked, "Are you going to be alright?"

"Mm-hmm," she mumbled and bent her head downward. Her cheeks were a bright red color.

"Good, let’s go then," he started heading toward the door and Mauve followed closely behind him.

She could almost hear the loud beating of her heart. She was excited to see how this would go and was wondering how many hours the trip would take.

She didn’t have a problem with it, as long as it wasn’t as bumpy as the ride here. She shook her head as she thought of it, her bum had been sore for days.

He got to the door and opened it, holding it so she could go out, and then he walked out and closed the door behind him.

"Thank you," her voice was a little low. She was anxious as hell.

"Hmm," he said and resumed walking ahead.

He led her to the stairs and kept looking behind as they climbed down. He did it so many times that she became exasperated.

"I know how to climb down the stairs, you know." She blurted out when he turned around to look at her again for the umpteenth time.

"Are you sure?" He smirked and stopped walking completely.

Mauve didn’t anticipate this and she bumped her head against his back. "Aww!" She cried.

"See what I mean. I might as well walk backward at this point."

"That was your fault!" She yelled, rubbing her head.

"Sire," a loud voice called at the end of the stairs.

Mauve poked her head out Jael’s side so she could see downstairs just as he turned his gaze away from her. She looked down to see Damon and Lady Jevera at the corner end of the stairs.

"Damon," Jael called. "I see you are ready."

He stretched his hand backward and grabbed Mauve’s hand tightly. She didn’t even get a chance to protest. He picked up the pace and pulled her down with him while she struggled not to trip as she ran after him.

"Yes, Sire," Damon said and bowed as they got to the end of the stairs.

Mauve clung to Jael as they stopped abruptly. Grateful that she didn’t stop head first. He didn’t let go of her hand as they stopped but rather he pulled her closer.

"Jevera is something wrong then?" Jael asked, staring hard at her.

Even Mauve could see that something was wrong. Lady Jevera had a look of displeasure plastered across her face.

She was dressed in traveling clothes too, her fiery red hair was tied up in a ponytail and she was wearing the brown coat Mauve had seen her with the first day he arrived.

"Why is he coming with us?" She asked with a sneer. "And she too?" She stares directly at Mauve.

Mauve’s eyes widened as she realized she wasn’t exactly going alone with Jael. Well, she didn’t think that far ahead, she was just excited to go on a trip with him.

"Mauve?" He asked. "Your father didn’t tell you everything I see."

Father? Mauve frowned, they were going to Jevera’s house. She couldn’t guess why, she should have questioned Jael more.

"What do you mean?" She frowned.

"He requested for her," he said and Mauve saw Lady Jevera visibly shrink.

Mauve’s eyes bulged as she stared from Jael to Jevera. Why would her father request for her? This didn’t make any sense.

"I apologize, I wasn’t made aware of this." She mumbled.

"I can see that," he said.

"Still doesn’t explain why he has to come with us, Danag would do a better job." She said and folded her arms. Mauve thought she had recovered a little too quickly.

"Jevera, I don’t understand your concern but Danag isn’t in the castle at the moment and even if he was I have no intention of changing Damon for Danag. Damon is quite familiar with the Levaton’s terrain, you know this. To suggest that Danag would do a better job is a bit confusing. A better job at what exactly?"

"I know the way home, if that’s your reason for picking him then there is no need for that."

Jael frowned, "I don’t see what is wrong with Damon. He is one of my personal guards and I am certain of his skill."

"My cousin is a part of your personal guard, he can come with us instead. He is also familiar with the Levaton’s terrain."

Mauve looked at Damon and there wasn’t the slightest reaction from him. He kept his gaze straight ahead, looking at nobody in particular

Mauve frowned as she wondered why Lady Jevera wouldn’t want Damon to accompany them. She actually liked him and was definitely glad it was him and not Jevera’s evil cousin, Lord Erick.

"Tsk," Jael loudly said as he ran his hand through his hair, his eyes glowing a little. Mauve could tell he was pissed.

"Would you prefer I cancel the trip completely? Whatever you are going on about, I have no interest in it. If you wouldn’t like Damon embarking on the trip with us, it’s fine. We can all stay back. After all, this trip doesn’t seem to offer me any kind of benefit."

Lady Jevera looked horrified. Mauve looked equally so, she had been excited about the trip. However, she knew if Jael indeed canceled the trip there was nothing she could say to convince him.

"I apologize," she said, bowing her head. "It is a trivial matter, one I shouldn’t be making such a fuss about."

"Good, shall we?"

They all nodded.

"Damon? Where is Mill?" Jael asked as they walked to the door.

"She is waiting outside," he responded immediately.

"Alright."

Damon threw the door open and Mauve blinked. It was dark out but not that dark that she couldn’t see what was in front of her but it was particularly annoying that she wouldn’t be able to venture far in this darkness.

"Sire," she heard Mill’s familiar voice beside her and turned to see Mill standing at the end of the stairs leading out of the castle.

"Mill," she said and tried to pull away from Jael’s hand but he didn’t let go of her.

"Mauve," Mill called out to her. "Safe trip princess."

"Thank you, Mill." She said with a huge smile.

They got to the end of the stairs and Mill handed two bags to Damon which he carried a little too easily.

"Don’t you think we need more guards?" Jevera suddenly asked. "Two more wouldn’t hurt."

"I don’t see the need, more people would just slow us down. Keeping track of everyone would be a hassle. Besides, we should be at Levaton’s estate in at most two hours. Taking that many people for such a short trip is unnecessary."

"Yes, Jael." Lady Jevera said and visibly took a step back.

"If that is everything, shall we be in our way then?"

"Where are the horses?" Mauve suddenly asked.

Jael slowly turned his head in her direction and everybody went silent. "What do you mean?" He asked coldly.

Mauve blinked and her eyes darted around as she wondered what she could have said wrong. "I-I don’t see any horse around. Are we going by foot?"

"Yes," Jael said unblinkingly.

"Oh," she knew vampires were pretty fast but there was no way she would be able to keep up with them. She assumed there would at least be some preparation for her.

"I won’t be able to keep up, Jael."

"Mauve," he called gently. "Can you ride a horse?"

She immediately looked away, her face growing hot. "No," she mumbled. She has never ridden one.
