The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 106. Some Rumor

Chapter 106: 106. Some Rumor

Jevera stood on the stairs foreshadowing the ballroom. Her eyes scanned the ground floor as she stared at the occupants. Taking her time, she stepped down one step at a time with her chin in the air.

She looked down condescendingly, staring down at everybody who looks in her direction. The ballroom was fuller than she had expected, most vampires have arrived and there were a few unfamiliar faces but most of them were recognizable.

She got to the last step and Erick suddenly appeared by her side. She glared at him, "I don’t need an escort."

"I do," he whispered as they walked side by side.

"Go find somebody else to disturb."

"You are the only one I know," he said to her and took a drink out of his wine.

"Isn’t that sad?" She mocked.

"Shush! You don’t exactly have friends either."

"You’ll be surprised," as she spoke she waved and nodded at a few people.

"You’re putting up an act."

"Really? Watch this."

She picked up the pace and approached a couple seated in the corner of the space.

"Lord Garth!" She called.

"Lady Jevera," he called back. His enthusiasm matched her own.

"Lady Arora," she said and the skinny vampire smiles at her. The contrast between her and her huge husband was shocking at first glance.

"We haven’t had the time for a conversation, I am guessing your father isn’t coming."

"No Lord Garth, he was exempted."

"Of course, it would be worrisome if that old soul had to make the journey here."

"He is not that old, he can make the trip. He just would prefer to stay in the confines of his home. What about Lady Helana and Sabrina? I know I saw them during breakfast."

"Mingling," Lady Arora responded.

"Ah, I see. Enjoy the party. I will leave you too to yourselves." She smiled faintly and started to walk away.

"You could have introduced us," Erick whined.

"What are you talking about? You know Lord Garth. Now leave me alone," she said catching Lady Sabrina approaching her.

"Jevera," Sabrina squealed when she got close enough.

"Sabrina, I was just asking your parents where you were."

"Nowhere, I was walking around hoping that his majesty would come down soon enough."

"I see," Jevera said, her eyes trailing Sabrina.

Lady Sabrina was a blond vampire, she and Jevera were childhood friends and had a bit of rivalry going on between them even though they pretended to be friends.

"I haven’t seen you in a while. Well, I wouldn’t blame you. If I was cooped up with the Primus, I wouldn’t want to leave either."

Jevera forced a smile, the annoying vampire, did know how to get on her nerves.

What’s this rumor I hear?" She suddenly said staring at Jevera intensely.

"What rumor?" Jevera asked with a frown, knowing Sabrina she knew it couldn’t be good.

"Oh, you know how I catch wind of these things." Sabrina rambled on.

Jevera knew exactly how she got wind of this and she wasn’t interested in how she found out about the rumor, she was interested in the rumor itself. The fact that Sabrina brought it up, it must concerned her.

"What rumor? I can’t know what it is if you don’t tell me." She tried not to sound anxious as she spoke.

"You know, that you’re going to be the King’s mate." She chucked slightly. "It better be nothing more than a rumor."

"And what if it isn’t?" Jevera suddenly threw out. Sabrina’s reaction got under her skin.

"Very funny, just cause you’re the King’s whore doesn’t mean anything."

"At least I’m the King’s whore. Let’s talk about who has been keeping your bed warm these days, definitely not a King, and from what I gather you have been quite busy, bustling from one Lord’s house to another."

"I am gathering vital information, like this rumor perhaps. Don’t tell me there is some trust to it or you just lashed out because I mocked your imaginary union." Sabrina said, her eyes roaming Jevera’s face.

"Think what you want," Jevera said with a scoff.

"That’s exactly what I am doing, Jevera. I just thought to let you know that I am not going to sit back and let you think you have a chance."

"You are delusional," Jevera said without hesitation. "Don’t go assuming what isn’t over a rumor you probably heard while intoxicated."

She chuckled, "I am not saying it is. I am saying if there is a small chance it might be don’t think I won’t try to stop it."

"Stop what? You’re really something. I haven’t seen you in years and this is what you say to me."

Sabrina’s face changes immediately, "Of course, I’ve missed you. Have you met my sister yet..." she rambled on.

Jevera stared at her as she spoke as expressionless as she could. To say she was pissed was an understatement but she was proud of how well she was hiding it.

"That was fast," Erick said when she returned to his side.

"Shut up, I am only here because if I am alone I would be approached by people I don’t want to talk to."

"Lady Sabrina, I thought you are friends."

"I did not say we are not and why are you assuming it is her."

"I am not," Erick said and looked forward.

"Where are Damon and Danag?" She asked, changing the topic. She wasn’t entirely curious but she wanted to get her mind off this.

"They are both on guard duty." He explained.

Jevera frowned, "I thought only Danag was."

"Damon is guarding the human."

"Oh," she said, wondering why she didn’t sense him when she passed the floor.

She didn’t know the details but apparently, something had happened between Seraphino, Jael, and the human. Nobody was talking about it and she had tried to ask Erick several times but he wouldn’t tell her.

However, she knew it must be something serious as he was without his fangs, and fangs take forever to grow. Jevera could only think of a few things that could incur such a punishment.

Vampire Lords were only second to the King and took orders from him only. They had their estate and vampires they governed over. To punish a vampire Lord, especially a punishment as degrading as pulling his fangs, the symbol of being a vampire, Jevera can only that Jael must have been very pissed.

A loud sound drew her attention to the stairs. Jael was at the top of it and behind him was Danag. Jevera held her breath at the sight of him. He looked taller for some reason and she wondered if it was because he was standing above her.

Things between them have only gone from bad to worse. Now, he barely acknowledged her presence. She figured he had been busy with the party preparations and all but she could easily tell that wasn’t the only reason.

She was back in the castle to take him to see her father and every time she brought it up, he always shut her down. She felt her heart skip at what his reaction would be if he found out what her father wants to talk about with him.

Technically, she didn’t know but if Jael hated the idea, it would come back to bite her in the ass. The relationship between them was already strained, and she didn’t want to make it worse.

At the sight of him, every vampire immediately stopped whatever they were doing and stood to their feet. They all bowed simultaneously as Jael walked down the stairs. They raised their head after a full second has passed and gathered at the front of the stairs.

"Thank you all for making it here today," he announced as he got to the end of the stairs, his eyes scanning the crowd. It rested briefly in her but it didn’t hold, she doubted he even saw her.

"This is the first gathering since my parents died. As you have gathered here today, I do hope it means I have your full support as the current King of the vampires. I know a lot of things are different but bear with me, it will only get better from here on out."

A loud cheer erupted from the crowd and a path was quickly made for him to pass through the vampires.

Jevera watched Jael pass with a sad look in her eyes even though he was close enough to touch, he still seemed so far away. Decades later and she had absolutely no idea how he felt toward her.

Maybe, she shouldn’t go through with this. Maybe, she shouldn’t try to drag him to see her father, however, Jael would have to pick a vampire mate soon enough and she knew she would rather die than have it be Sabrina.

She wouldn’t hear the end of it and there was no better match than the both of them, she has come this far, and she won’t give up now.
