Chapter 102. You’re Welcome

Chapter 102: 102. You’re Welcome

Mauve wrapped herself, rubbing her shoulders simultaneously as watched Jael leave the room. She was fine, he had already spent a lot of time with her to ask that he should stay more would just be selfish on her part.

He stopped with his hand on the handle and turned around to look at her. "Are you going to be okay?" He asked.

Mauve felt her face break in a smile. "Of course, I am fine. Stop worrying."

His eyes stayed on her for a few seconds before he turned the handle and walked out of the door. Mauve blinked at the closed door, she could feel a chill going up her spine even though there was no reason for that.

She rubbed her shoulders some more. She kept her eyes glued to the door as she sat in the same spot. She couldn’t explain why she was feeling anxious.

She got out of bed and tried to walk around to take the edge off. The pacing didn’t help, it only made her more anxious. Mauve sat back on the bed, maybe she should read a book.

A knock sent her flying to her feet. She froze for a millisecond, her mind going blank. Another knock and she broke free from the trance.

"Who is it?" She called out.

"Sire sent me," the voice said, Mauve could hear his annoyance.

"Erick!" She called out, realizing this was the first time she was saying his name out loud. "Come in."

The door threw open and Erick walked in. "That’s Lord Erick to you."

"Lord?" She frowned.

She wouldn’t have guessed he was but it made sense if he was related to Jevera. She recalled hearing that in a conversation.

"Yeah," he said looking at her, his eyes trailing up and down. Mauve was immediately self-conscious, she could tell he was judging her.

She nodded her head at his words, she didn’t really care what he wanted her to call him. All she cared about was that he was willing to help her write the letter.

"Lord Erick," she said softly. She had not moved from where she stood by the bed.

"Better. I am only here because the Sire made me." He blurted.

"I know," Mauve said. "Thank you for agreeing to do this."

"If I had a choice I wouldn’t be here."

Mauve glowered at him, he didn’t have to tell her the last past. She already knew this. This was an unfortunate situation for both of them.

He walked closer and stood directly in front of the bed. Of the four of them, Erick was the smallest in size but he was still relatively huge compared to her. He had deep brown hair but in her dimly lit room his hair gave off a wine hue.

She knew he was related to Lady Jevera and she searched his face trying to find some kind of resemblance. There was nothing. Mack and Mill were the only vampires she had been able to tell at first glance they were family. However, considering how similar they looked, it would have been disturbing if she had not been able to tell.

His upper lips raised in a sneer, "Do you know what you want to write?" He asked.

"I um, I sorta do." Mauve blinked rapidly, his presence was overwhelming.

She was scared, she knew Erick didn’t like her but he had never done anything hateful toward her. Besides, the feeling was mutual but she was willing to play it nicely as long as he would help her.

"Have you written anything?"

His eyes trailed the room and rested on the top of the dresser. The ink bottle was still there, along with the quill. Mauve was surprised it was still intact and that was when she remembered she had not gotten rid of the letter.

"No," her voice was a little high and she immediately set out towards the dresser but stopped abruptly.

Erick didn’t notice as he had his eyes on the paper on the floor, he approached it and bent to pick it up. Mauve wanted to rush and pick up the paper before him but she found that she couldn’t move.

Erick stood to his full height holding up the paper. Mauve felt water break out of her back as he read the letter. She braced herself for his remark.

"Is this what you wrote?" He asked without looking at her.

"Yes," she said softly. His condescending voice made her feel even worse.

"Nasty!" He said, rolling it into a ball and crushing it.

Mauve reddened immediately. She knew it was bad, he didn’t have to tell her. "I haven’t written in a while." She blurted out, glaring at him with a red tint in her cheeks.

"I can tell," he scoffed.

"Don’t make it seem like it is the worst thing you have seen."

"It might as well be but at least you write better than Damon."

Mauve blinked at his response. In a backhanded way that was a compliment but she wasn’t sure if he just wanted to mock Damon or if he was saying something nice to her.

However, she has seen his relationship with Damon. It wasn’t good. This was probably a disguised insult. She wouldn’t put it past him.

"Is that a compliment?" She asked.

"It’s not. No extra paper?" He asked, looking around the dresser.

Mauve shook her head.

"Hmm, wait here, I will go get more."

Mauve nodded as he walked out of the room. It wasn’t like she could leave if she wanted to. She threw herself on the bed and sighed. She should have asked for someone else, she could already tell this was a bad idea.

After a few minutes, the door flew up. Mauve held her breath and rolled her eyes when she saw Erick walk through the front door. She squinted her eyes. For a Lord, he had no manners.

"What?" He asked, noticing her glare.

"Nothing. Did you find a paper?" She asked.

"Maybe," he mumbled and walked to her dresser.

He took a seat by the dresser. At first, she thought he wouldn’t fit in the chair but he did. As soon as he sat down, Mauve stood to her feet.

"It is best you remain on the bed, I’d rather not have you hanging around me. I just need your words, not your presence." He said with his back to her.

Mauve rolled her eyes at him and sat on the bed with a loud sound. She crawled upwards and slipped under the sheets, making sure she was comfortable. She also made sure she was as loud as possible.

"Are you ready?" She asked.

"Shush!" He said.

She could see him scribbling away. He had his back to her, his head bent forward but she could easily see he was already writing.

"Hey! What are you writing? You don’t even know what I want to say?"

"I read the letter you started," he said without raising his head to look at her.

"What if I want to change it?" Mauve pouted.

Erick stopped scribbling and turned around to look at her. "Do you?"

Mauve looked away. "No," she muttered.

"That’s what I thought." He said and turned away.

She sneered at his back, mouthing his words back at him.

"I can see you in the mirror. Do you want my help or not? I am sure I couldn’t be clearer about how I would rather not be here."

Mauve felt her face grow hot. "Don’t make it sound like you’re helping me because you are so nice."

"I am not. However, I could have fought tooth and nail not to be here but I am."

"Nope, if it’s an order from Jael. You can’t refuse."

"Whatever!" He mumbled.

Mauve smirked to herself and adjusted the sheets.

"Why is it taking so long?" She asked after some minutes had passed.

"Would you rather write it yourself?"

"No," she sighed loudly. "It didn’t take me this long to write mine," she mumbled.

"If it had taken long to write that atrocious piece, I would be worried."

Mauve gave him a side eye, "It better be the best letter ever written," she muttered under her breath.

Erick didn’t reply even though she could tell that he could hear her. She rolled on her bed, groaning loud enough for him to hear.

Mauve flipped the page of the book she was reading. It has been over three hours at this point. He would occasionally ask her questions but didn’t let her say anything else and he refused to answer her question.

At this point, she was hundred percent he was messing with her and he wasn’t really writing anything. She would be so pissed if it wasn’t worth the hours she spent stuck in a room with Erick.

"Can I see what you have written?" She asked, looking up from her book.

"An artist never reveals their work until it is done," he said without hesitation.

She snickered, "Yeah right." She then returned her attention to the book she was reading.

A knock caused her to raise her head from the book and before she could say a word, Erick stood up from the table and tossed the paper at her.

"You’re welcome," he blurted out and walked toward the door.
