Chapter 320: The Evidence
Chapter 320: The Evidence
Tomorrow swiftly came, and Nathan was more than ready to put all of this work behind him as soon as Danos was nothing more but a stain beneath his shoes. Truly, the resumption of Boris’s hearing couldn’t come soon enough. Raine was still ignoring his calls, and the only way he could think of that would let him apologize properly was to go to her location himself.
"Is everything ready?" he impatiently asked as he tapped his foot on the floor, his suit pressed and ready as he stood beside Boris. "I can only assume that you all have put the evidence to good use."
"We have, my King," one of Boris’s lawyers nodded. "We’ll make sure that I and my team will have him right where we want him."
Nathan simply nodded in satisfaction. He could only trust their team to do what they did best now.
"Seriously, we already have him by the balls," Boris groaned. "Why can’t we just kill him right here and now?"
"Boris, we can’t do that," Aspen sighed. "We have to at least expose him in front of the judge first before we can kill him. And even then, we really shouldn’t."
Nathan nodded in agreement. While he knew that it was well within Boris’s rights to just rip Danos’s head to shreds right here and now, the law didn’t work that way. There were still rules that needed to be followed. Only then would they actually be justified to kill him where he stood.
"Listen to your friend here," one of Boris’s lawyers chuckled. "You’re basically a free man now. We can’t have you screwing that up by you acting unruly."
Boris grunted in disappointment. Meanwhile, Nathan could already hear Davin chuckling from the stands. He really didn’t need to be a part of the defense team now, but a part of him wanted to sit down right in the thick of it. Somehow, Nathan felt that something bad was about to happen in this trial.
"Okay, let’s do this," he declared with determination.

Lyne didn’t expect herself to be watching Boris’s trial like this, but somehow, he actually managed to convince her that she should watch him get acquitted today.
Assuming that he was actually going to get acquitted today, of course.
Sitting by the stands, she was dressed in something a bit more formal for the occasion. Wearing a business suit, she blinked as the judge’s gavel signaled for the trial’s resumption.
"Order in the court!" the judge called out. "The hearing regarding Danos’s allegations against Boris will now continue. Where we last left off, the prosecution’s side had fielded convincing hearsay against the defendant, but at the end of the day, they are still simply hearsay, and therefore inadmissible in court as evidence."
Lyne raised an eyebrow at the judge’s words. Did the bastard’s side really try and submit what amounted to gossip as evidence? Were they that hard-pressed for actual proof against Boris?
"Likewise, the defense had told us before we adjourned yesterday’s court that they have damnable evidence against the prosecution’s case," the judge continued. "Specifically, they supposed to have evidence against the Elder Danos, the key witness against Boris’s case."
Already, Lyne could feel her blood boiling. Just seeing the man that killed her father was making her want to just jump in and kill him herself. Hopefully, Boris and his team had more than enough to give this man what he deserved. Nathan had called her to help in their investigation, and surely, with the amount of proof they’d acquired, Danos won’t be walking out of this courtroom today alive.
"Hah, as if that’ll happen," Danos scoffed. "Can I see what this so-called proof is? What would it be? That Boris wasn’t present at the scene of the crime?"
"Order in the court," the judge bellowed out. "I will not have the prosecution heckling the defense."
Lyne scoffed, hoping that the judge had given out a more punishing penalty.
"Now, we will have the defense take the floor."
At the sound of the judge’s gavel, one of Boris’s lawyers walked to the middle of the court. With a smug look on his face, it was clear to her that the lawyer was getting ready to present something damnable against this bastard.
"Your honorable judge, the defense would like to present new evidence that proves that my client, Boris, had no involvement in the crimes that Danos had levied against him," the lawyer soundly declared. "If all within this room would turn their attention to the screen..."
Lyne did what was asked, and her eyes widened at the massive spreadsheet listing off every single dark dealing Danos had made. Every blackmail attempt, every assassination, all of them were neatly ordered by date and success rate as if they were merely grades made by a teacher for their students.
"As you can see, the defense’s investigations had unearthed a massive ledger containing Danos’s dealings with the underworld, as well as his own involvement in crimes far more damning than the defense’s," Boris’s lawyer rightfully declared. "We even have voice logs, as well as video footage of some of his crimes, as well as definitive proof that the prosecution’s key witness had participated in both torture and crimes against both humanity and-"
"Objection!" the prosecution’s lawyer called out. "That’s hearsay-"
"The validity of these documents are also further strengthened by Danos’s signature on some of the contracts he forged," the defense quickly rebutted. "There is simply no way that anybody could be able to forge the key witness’s signature, especially since he’s a secretive man. Isn’t that right?"
Lyne couldn’t believe her ears. Torture? Crimes so foul that even the supernatural world frowned upon them? Just looking at the spreadsheet made her feel like her heart was about to drop. Still, the joy she got from seeing Danos’s paling face made it all worth it.
She couldn’t help but grin in satisfaction as he saw the bastard sweating bullets. Clearly, he didn’t expect this. And based on how panicked he looked, the evidence they fielded were indeed true.
"Order in the court!" the judge bellowed out. "What is the meaning of this?! Why, these allegations alone would be more than enough to discredit the prosecutions-"
"I didn’t do any of the sorts!"
