Chapter 309: Who He Was
The next morning, Raine and Nathan both got ready early to leave the cruise ship. Their last-minute marital activities aside, they were pretty content with what they’ve achieved during their limited time together. Currently, Raine was watching the morning news inside their suite while sipping on a cup of hot milk.
"The elections are nearing," Raine absently commented as she blinked at the news. She then showed some curiosity as she asked, "Who do you think will win? Better yet, who will you vote for?"
"Hmm, I’m sure Chad will win this," Nathan commented as soon as he was finished with his call. "He’s pretty popular as it is."
As of now, Lucio, who was one of the Convel Society’s Elders, and Chad, who was the king of the Earth Clan, were battling head to head in the latest polls. The surveys were still inconclusive, but one of them was starting to pull ahead against the other.
"I hope so too. He’s a good man," Raine hoped with a small chortle. "Also, we might become family soon. He has a history with my twin, apparently..." She then added with a satisfied grin, "My twin has good taste, don’t you think?"
Nathan hovered behind her from the back of the sofa as he kissed her forehead. "You too have good taste too, don’t you think?" he bragged. "You’ve got me, after all."
Raine chuckled at his oozing confidence. "My my my... Since when did my husband become this arrogant, huh?"
Nathan chuckled as he circled around to join her on the sofa. "I needed enough to win over the most dangerous, but most beautiful and gorgeous woman in this world," he commented as he scooped her into his warm embrace. "And it worked, right?"
"That it did," Raine relented as she cuddled into her husband with a pout. "Ugh... I hate that we have to part ways already."
Nathan let out a breath and said, "I hate it too, but this is just temporary. Like I always say, bear with this for a while. It won’t take longer than a month to wrap things up. Now come on and let’s go."
Coaxing her to go, Nathan had to pull her up to get her on her knees since she was too lazy to go just yet. But after a bit of encouragement, they were soon making their way to the ship’s helipad and back inside their helicopter.
Flying across the sky, Raine had thought that Nathan would drop her back at the Yue Mansion’s rooftop. But to her surprise, they landed at the airport.
"What’s going on?" Raine asked as they then walked towards a private plane. Looking at the sides of the jet, she frowned when she saw that it was an airline owned by the Earth Clan.
"Let’s go inside first," Nathan commented as he led her inside the airplane to first settle her down.
"This is Chad’s plane," she commented with a frown.
"Indeed. I asked Chad for assistance since I can’t afford to take any risks. I won’t let anyone from Convel know about your whereabouts, so it’s better that you take on Chad’s security as your own instead of using the Moon Clan’s," Nathan explained himself.
"Also, this plane will fly you to Country A so that you can spend some time with your father, while at the same time, you can supervise the mission there regarding Rui’s case like you wanted."
As if on cue, both of them turned as soon as her father Lark walked inside and sat on the other side of the aisle.
"I thought you-"
"Hmm, knowing you... You’ll definitely go even if I told you not to, so I might as well arrange this journey for you so that I can at least know where you’ll be by the end of it," Nathan interrupted her with a small shrug.
"Still, I must insist that you must let my security handle your safety. Please? Can you promise me that you’ll stay put and not put yourself in danger while supervising Rui’s case?"
Seeing all of the effort her husband put in, Raine simply nodded with a grin. This was totally unexpected, but nevertheless, she was touched by the gesture.
"I know that you’ll get bored without me showing up for a while," Nathan scoffed. "Either way, this is way better than having you growing distant from me while inside the Yue Mansion."
At his words, Raine brushed and messed up his loose hair as she murmured, "You’re so adorable, Darling. Why even think like that? I’ll never grow distant from you, though I might get annoyed too often from missing you too much."
"Come here," Raine then whispered as she pulled Nathan in for a tight hug. "Now go and break a leg out there. I’ll call you once I’ve arrived safely, though I’m sure it’ll be reported to you before I can even do so."
Feeling her love, Nathan broke the hug before passionately kissing her on the lips. He didn’t even mind that her father was even present, the man simply keeping quiet in his seat even as they locked lips.
Still, all things must come to an end and Nathan left as soon as he was able to do so. Raine couldn’t help but feel lonely from his absence, but she quickly reminded herself that this would be a good time for her to spend time with her father while at the same time enjoying her new surroundings during her pregnancy.
With a smile, she turned and looked at her father. "This is your first time traveling on a plane right?" The latter simply nodded, and Raine quickly followed up her question with another smile. "Come here, Dad. Sit beside me."
At her instruction, Lark stood up from his seat and walked towards her. Raine helped him with his seatbelt, and when the plane was about to take off, Raine put her hand on top of her father’s hand.
While It wasn’t her father’s first time taking a plane, it might as well be since he had lost his memories. During the wedding, Raine had talked to her newly-found uncle, King Arvin of the Sun Clan, and asked the latter about her father. She even recorded their conversation just to make sure she knew enough about him before that curse fell upon him.
With a bit of work, she was able to find everything. From all the things her father loved and liked to do, to even things he hated... And apparently, one of the things his father hated is being inside an airplane. Lark hated heights and flying...
Warmly, she firmly held onto his hand and comforted him. "It’s alright Dad..."
Absently, she smiled at the thought of how her father met her mother inside a plane. According to her Uncle Arvin, Lark suddenly grabbed her mother’s hand even though they were both strangers to one another at the time, and that was when their romance started.
Heaving a long deep sigh, Raine murmured, "It would be nice if I can hear about your story with Mom directly from you. Don’t you think so, Dad?"
Turning to him, she shook her head upon seeing how her father’s face had turned pale as the plane took off. Indeed, he was cursed, but that didn’t mean that he had lost everything that defined who he was.
