Chapter 305: With You
"By the way, what’s the call about a while ago? Is it just about Danos?" Raine curiously asked while they were walking hand in hand through the hallways of the ship.
"The Elders called for an Emergency Meeting two days from now," Nathan informed. "It’s no big deal."
"Huh... I guess it’s not that urgent to wait for two days then?" Raine asked with a chuckle. For her, if it was called an emergency meeting, it should be held on the same day.
Nathan chuckled at what she just said. "Well, they need all Elders to be present, so I guess they’ll all be able to do so in two days?" he shrugged. "Lucio’s been very busy these days since the election is nearing."
"Why do you think the Elders called for an Emergency Meeting then?" Raine pondered some more.
"Well, I’m sure that by now, they’ve already found out that we’re officially married," Nathan wondered out loud with a sigh. "If so, then I expect them to retaliate, most probably asking me to abdicate the throne if I won’t divorce you."
Right... She was sure that by now, Sasha was just dying to try and kill her. Then again, what was the use of it once her husband chooses to abdicate? After all, that was Nathan’s plan from the very start.
"Is Aspen ready to replace you by now?"
"He needs to be. I’ll be handing the throne to him soon, and many would definitely try to challenge him for the right to have it," Nathan explained with another sigh. "Either way, he has no choice but to accept his fate for the sake of the Convel Society. He’s the only one capable enough to replace me anyway."
Seeing his stress, Raine hugged Nathan’s arm. She could feel how weary he currently was with the current situation. Her husband was feeling torn, seeing as the Convel Society was his Mother’s group, making it hard for him to choose what he should manage between it and the Moon Clan. Of course, he could very well just effectively rule the two groups on his own, but doing so would be a hard task, especially when the Convel Society had many packs within it that would never allow the merging of the two groups.
’Wait a minute...’
Raine stopped walking when a vivid scene from her childhood suddenly flashed through her mind’s eye.
"The Moon Clan was initially ruled by werewolves centuries ago, right? I mean, they were cast out from the Clan because they became too hard to manage and tame," Raine absently commented in deep thought, a memory of a conversation between her father and Uncle Yun back from when she was eight years old playing out in her head. "I believe that was when the Convel Society was established. Father Marcus wiped this from history, I think..."
"Hmm, I know about that, Darling, but there’s no way that we can safely merge the two groups back together," Nathan soundly rebutted.
"It’ll be for the better if they remained as two separate entities, especially since the Moon Clan and the Convel Society have different goals. The latter’s main goal is to protect werewolves, while the three Clans of MIRAGE’s main goal is to protect humanity. In this current era, these two will simply clash like back in the past, which is why they ended up splitting in the first place."
He continued to speak at length. "It’s like what happened to the Sun Clan. Originally, the clan was ruled by vampires, but there’s also been an uproar throughout its history when The Corvus was established: a group of pure vampires like the Convel Society was for pure werewolves. Again, the Three Clans of Mirage simply have a different purpose to fulfill, and I believe they’re more meaningful ones anyway, so I would rather rule over the Moon Clan. The Mirage was established for the betterment of every living creature, after all. Well, there could still be power struggles within the three Clans, but nevertheless, MIRAGE would always aim to protect its own."
"Huh, that was a pretty long explanation of stuff I already know," Raine playfully narrowed her eyes as she flashed him a teasing smile. "Ignoring the fact that your speech did nothing except reaffirming your choice to me, aren’t you still being biased in choosing the Moon Clan since I’m in it?"
Nathan chuckled at her stating the obvious. Playfully pinching her nose, he scoffed, "Aren’t you being so overconfident?"
"Why? Is it not true?" Raine asked with a lifted brow.
Nathan put his arm over her shoulders to pull her close to him as he started walking. "Well, fine... I’m guilty as charged," he shrugged. "My family is in the Moon Clan so... It’s only right for me that I stay there and focus my attention on managing it."
Satisfied with her husband’s answer, Raine hummed happily as they walked to the deck where the outdoor flick was located. Comfortably seating themselves on the sofa by the side of the deck, they made sure that they would also have a good view of the sunset as soon as it came. After securing their spot, Nathan stood up to order some snacks for themselves, with Raine simply gazing at his leaving back with a content smile.
"Ah, I’m having a really good time with this honeymoon. Too bad it’ll only last till tomorrow," she murmured with a pout before gently caressing her tummy. "After that, it’s back to doing boring stuff... Still..." she murmured with a beautiful smile. "Aire... I can’t wait to see you again, my love..."
Eight more months till then. It seemed so long, but time flew fast when you least expected it. She was sure that before she even knew it, she would be pregnant again, this time with twins. Right, Nathan had mentioned how Aire said that they would have twins right after having her.
Soon enough, Nathan returned with popcorn and fruit juice in both hands. He sat beside her, and Raine snuggled comfortably in his arms as the flick began playing in front of them.
"What are they going to play?" Nathan asked.
"Hmm, I’m not sure, Darling, but I’m suddenly feeling sleepy," Raine yawned. Nathan felt so warm and comfy, and she smiled further when she saw Nathan grabbing one of the available blankets and covering themselves with it.
"This feels great," Raine sluggishly murmured. "Thank you, Darling, for giving me this honeymoon trip..."
"It would be nice if we can at least complete the cruise ship and also enjoy the stopovers though," Nathan warmly smiled at her. "Anyway, we can still do that later once I wrap everything up in the Convel Society..."
"Hmm, this is more than enough for me honestly," Raine murmured as she fought the urge to close her eyes. "The trip doesn’t matter at all. Just having your presence like this is more than enough for me. I’ll enjoy everything as long as it’s with you..."
"I feel the same, my sweet vixen... I love you..."
That was the last thing she heard Nathan murmur before she completely dozed off with a satisfied smile on her face.
