Chapter 290: Secretly Out of the Country

Raine couldn’t hide the glow in her eyes as she started greeting her visitors. Most of them were from her Moonlight Squad, and her Aunt Ester together with her biological father were also with them. She was honestly grateful that her Aunt Ester was always looking after her father Lark even after all this time although they were not related to her by blood. But at least now, she was finally going to be her legal in-law once she and Nathan got married.

As they took care of their guests, Nathan was always right beside her as they did their duties as hosts. Eventually, dinner came, and Raine grabbed everyone’s attention by proposing a toast.

"I bet all of you are wondering as to why I asked for everyone’s presence here tonight at this simple dinner gathering with me and Nathan," Raine started, looking at her squad members not far from her table. "I only invited a few whom I considered my family... My Moonlight Squad..."

She then turned to the table where her father, Aunt Ester, Davin, Bartos, Aspen and his mother, and Decan currently were as she added, "My immediate family and newfound friends..."

Raine addressed everyone present in the garden as she finally revealed, "It is our great pleasure to tell you all about the good news... that Nathan and I will have our first baby together. I am pregnant."

At the news, everyone immediately voiced their congratulations to the couple. Lyne and Mia hugged Raine together, and they said in chorus, "It’s definitely good news, Boss!"

After that, her aunt Ester moved to hug her and Nathan. "Ah, I’m glad that there’s going to be a new member of the family. Another grandchild for me..." she enthusiastically stated.

Raine smiled at everyone and said her thank yous. Nathan then interrupted the warm congratulations as he announced, "Also, my wedding with Raine will be held here two days from now. I would all like to ask for your cooperation to make it possible."

"Alright then," Ester cheered as she raised her glass of wine along with everyone else in the garden. "There are so many things to celebrate right now, so let’s all have a toast for our King and Queen..."

After which, dinner started, and Nathan looked after Raine’s food since she ended up being picky with her food. She didn’t like dishes that had a strong smell, and she was being rather peckish.

"How about some roasted beef?" Nathan asked.

Raine nodded as she then added, "I want something marinated in sweets, darling."

At that, Nathan quickly walked up to Levi and asked for help.

"Boss, it seems like your baby has a sweet tooth like you," Mia commented with a smile.

"Yeah. I noticed that too, and my baby girl is so picky even with strong scents," Raine mumbled out with a pout. "I feel nauseous whenever I smell strong perfume, so there’s that. Not to add how I often feel sleepy."

"Oh? Boss, how do you know it’s a baby girl?" Lyne interrupted with knitted brows. "I mean, I heard that you’ll only know the gender of your baby during the fifth or sixth month of pregnancy."

Raine chuckled. It would be a long story if she told them all about Aire, and she was feeling too lazy to do it. So she plainly said, "Well, I simply feel that she’ll be a girl."

"Well, if she’s a baby girl, then you should name her Aire," Boris suggested before drinking his beer.

Raine’s eyes rounded as she mused, ’So it was Boris who gave baby Aire a name?"

"Wow, that’s a good suggestion, Boris. Aire sounds lovely for a baby girl, but how come the name sounds familiar somehow? I’m pretty sure I’ve only heard it just now," Mia murmured, frowning as she tilted her head.

Raine tried to suppress her laughter at Mia’s reaction. The latter was probably thinking hard at the mention of that specific name. She could only pity her friends and the missing gaps in their memory, even if such a thing was for the best.

"Aire means the act of guarding," Boris added with a smile. "I’m sure the baby will be like her mother, who always guards and watches over her loved ones."

"Ah, that’s so nice of you, Boris. Thank you..." Raine sweetly smiled. "And because of that, I feel like rewarding you."

Raine had a devious glint in her smile as she turned to Lyne and called her out. "Lyne?"

Lyne put down her fork to look at her. "Yes, Boss?"

"Hmm, Nathan and I have decided that it’ll be safer if I stayed here in our territory, but I would also need an eye at the Convel Society to report to me about everything that’s happening," Raine began.

"As such, please stay there and coordinate with Boris in this matter. You two have one main goal, and that is to make sure that my husband is always safe... safe from harm and the scheming of werewolves against him inside the Convel Society."

"I understand, Boss," Lyne answered with a nod.

"Heh, look at you smiling, that grin stretched up to your ears," Mia teased Boris, making the latter scratch his head. Mia didn’t stop at that. Boris was saved by the bell from being in the hot seat as decan suddenly called for him so the latter got up and excused himself.

"So what’s the real score now?" Mia curiously asked Lyne with a teasing grin.

Seeing the teasing happening around her, Raine took this time to turn to Lyne and interrupted, "Hmm, if you’ll be uncomfortable, just tell me so that we can arrange someone else to do it instead."

"It’s alright, Boss. I’m not uncomfortable at all," Lyne insisted with a reassuring smile. "Besides, I also think that there’s no one more fit for it than I am."

"I’m glad that’s what you think Lyne," Raine nodded. And Mia also seconded saying, "At least those werewolves are already used to your presence there."

The conversation was interrupted when Lyne’s phone beeped, and Raine quickly signaled her to check on it first. Answering her phone, the former’s forehead creased, making the latter’s face dim in response.

"What is it?" Raine inquired as soon as Lyne turned at her.

"Boss, you told us to report everything about Doctor Xander and Doctor Rui, especially when something’s off," Lyne began. "I just got a report from our team following Dr. Rui in the shadows... His wife, Cali, is in danger. One of the notorious Lycans on our list is trying to prey on her."

"Where are they right now?" Raine inquired.

Lyne’s eyes widened at her as she exclaimed, "Wait... No way! Are you thinking of doing this hunt personally?... In your current condition?!"

Raine let out a long sigh as she carefully caressed her tummy and whispered with a wicked smile, "I think Nathan would prefer me secretly out of the country at this rate, so I guess it would be better to take a breath of fresh air. And I’ve heard there are many things to enjoy in country A..."
