Chapter 284: The Little Things

Back at the Moon Clan’s compound, Levi and Mia were doing absolutely nothing with the rare time-off they managed to squeeze into their busy schedules. Levi didn’t even know how they did it, what with the chaos of the current power vacuum making some bad actors try their hand in usurping the clan.

"This is the life," Levi sighed, almost sinking into his seat as he leaned further back. "No work... No hourly disasters interrupting my relaxation..."

"That was like, what? The fifth time someone tried something funny?" Mia sighed beside her, her back leaning on a separated couch as they lounged about. "When will they learn, you think?"

"Probably until we publicly castrate someone for even trying, I think," Levi humorously chuckled, a small sigh escaping his lips as he continued. "You’d think that with King Nathan being a legitimate heir, they’d stop with the shenanigans."

"Yeah, well, there will always be some stupid idiots thinking that they can do a repeat of Marcus’s stunt," Mia scoffed. "On top of them not being as smart as the man, they don’t even have the proper connections to pull it off."

Levi shook his head in exasperation. While it was funny at first, the number of idiots thinking that they could be the next king by forcing their agenda was starting to grate on his nerves. That went doubly for Mia, seeing as she was the one that had to clean up the mess after every subsequent attempt that a poor fool tried doing.

Seriously... After the fifth so-called king popped up, Levi almost wanted to shoot himself just so he wouldn’t witness the inevitable curbstomp that would happen to the idiot. Then again, that was mostly because he was the one that did the stomping in the first place.

"Don’t blame them. They just have overinflated egos," Levi joked with a humorless laugh. "At least they stopped for long enough to give us some time to ourselves."

"Come now. At least don’t acknowledge it," Mia pointed out. "You might jinx us."

"Heh, fair enough..."

A comfortable silence settled between them, both of them simply content in lounging in the command room as they casually took a glance at the monitors every once in a while. It was technically still work, but at least it wasn’t as tiring as doing actual work.

"Say, we’re already an item, right?"

"Yes?" Levi answered with a questioning tone. "Is there something on your mind?"

"Well, we haven’t been on a date in well, ever," Mia lazily pointed out. "Think we have the time to do that right now?"

"Let me check then," Levi lazily replied before wheeling his chair onto his desk. He then casually flipped over his calendar, pretending to check for his schedule before giving up and answering, "I think we’re fine with that."

"Really?" Mia dubiously asked, a bit of life coming back to her tone. "We don’t have some work left over that we’re overlooking?"

"At this point, we always have work waiting for us," Levi sighed as he wheeled his chair back towards the couch where Mia was lounging about. "If we want to have a date, maybe we can do a work-date or something."

"Wouldn’t that be, well, not a date?"

"What other choice do we have?" Levi sighed, his eyes taking a quick glance at the monitors before turning his gaze back to his beloved. "We’re not so high up in the pecking order that we don’t have to do anything, and we’re too important to not do our jobs properly."

"Ah... the curse of responsibility," Mia groaned out.

"Exactly," Levi chuckled. "Still, just spending time with you like this can count as a date, right?"

"Maybe," Mia shrugged, spinning her body in a way that she was now sitting upside down on the couch, her feet dangling in the air as her hair touched the ground. "Or maybe we can, well, go to a restaurant or something."

"And leave this whole operation unattended?" Levi scoffed. "That’s rich."

"Hey, since when are you the responsible one between us?" Mia teased.

"Ever since you started suggesting that we skip work, Mia," Levi cleverly replied, lifting his feet off the ground as he spun on his swivel chair. "I might not look like it, but I still care about doing my work properly."

"Fair enough."

The conversation died down, and the two were once again bathed in a comfortable silence in each other’s presence. Levi felt that there was something to be had in them being all alone in a small room, but he didn’t think that now was an appropriate time for it. They were still on duty, and they might just miss yet another idiot having a different idea other than laying low and doing as they were told.

"Leevviii~ I’m boooredd..." Mia playfully drawled out, her arms outstretched in front of her as she flailed about upside down. "Can we at least get something to eat?"

Levi chuckled, "Are you a child now?"

"Only when I’m bored," Mia playfully replied.

Rolling his eyes, Levi wheeled himself over to the nearest desk, his butt never leaving his seat as he bent down and pulled on a drawer. Seeing the arsenal of junk food they had, he grabbed whatever was within his reach before wheeling himself back to Mia’s side and tossing a few packets of snacks at her.

"Hey-" Mia pouted as she grabbed the bag of chips that had just bounced off her face. "You could’ve at least warned me."

"Where’s the fun in that?" Levi smirked as he opened his own bag of chips. "Just be glad that I’m bored enough to wait on your every need today."

"Oh really?" Mia teasingly asked as she corrected her posture, sitting up properly as she opened her snack. "Well in that case, thank you."

Levi paused midsnack. Looking at Mia, he couldn’t help but smile as his eyes met with her own. The two shared a loving glance, their mouths filled with junk as they settled into their own positions.

"You’re welcome," Levi earnestly replied.

Together, they lazily lounged in the monitor room. It might not be much, but it was always the little things that made life worth living.
