Chapter 253: Prince of the Moon Clan
Meanwhile, inside the Moon Clan compound proper, Levi, Lyne, and Mia were all running themselves ragged in trying to keep the peace throughout its halls. The innocents still there were right on the enemy’s crosshairs, and they had to do their best to make sure that none of them were caught in the crossfire.
"Are there any more people still around?" Lyne asked just as she was finished ferrying yet another batch of innocents to their designated safe area.
"There’s still a few more outside," Levi called out, also just being done with making sure his batch of people got themselves to safety. "Mia’s getting them now. We should focus more on making sure that this area’s secure."
"Right," Lyne nodded. "Still, we also have to make sure that they even understand what’s happening."
The attack had been fast and brutal. And while they knew well beforehand that it would happen, they were still caught blindsided with how quickly it spread across the compound. Already, a bit of infighting had begun popping up all around their vicinity, and it took at least two of them to try and keep the peace.
"Okay then, who’s going to explain it to them?" Levi exasperatingly asked. "Cause I sure as hell won’t."
"Well, I don’t know much, either," Lyne quickly replied. "Mia’s probably the one with the most info out of all of us."
"So we just have to wait for her then," Levi sarcastically sighed. "In the meantime, we just have to keep everyone calm while keeping them in the dark. Cause that’ll end well enough."
Lyne winced at Levi’s insinuation. She knew that withholding information at this stage would lead to more infighting, and that would mean more innocent blood being shed needlessly for something so stupid.
"Fine, we’ll try to explain it," Lyne sighed. "Just back me up or something."
Turning to the crowd, she didn’t even wait for Levi to finish as she began to report the situation to the masses. With Levi corroborating her words, Lyne explained the fact that Nathan was the rightful King of the Moon Clan, and that he was only attacking to reclaim his birthright. She also made sure to let them know that they won’t be killed by the attacking werewolves, and that should they remain calm, it’ll all be over before they even knew it.
Soon enough, the pair both ended their report, with their audience merely looking at them pensively as they all came to their own conclusions.
"Well, that turned out well," Levi commented.
Lyne could only shake her head. She just hoped that the murmurs spreading throughout the crowd meant good things instead of it being brewing resentment for having their lives put in danger.

Back to the fighting, Davin and Boris were having a tough time running damage control while also putting up a fight. Flitting from one skirmish to the other, they made sure that none of the human fighters from the Moon Clan got infected by werewolf blood despite their growing wounds. It was a fruitless endeavor in the long run, especially in a war as large as they were currently waging, but those were their orders, and they could only act in the way that they were told to.
That was, unless they could somehow make the fighting stop.
"This is hopeless," Davin complained as he intervened in yet another fight between human and werewolf that was starting to go too far. "We can’t possibly save them all."
"We still have to try," Boris spoke up, also busy with his own battles even if they weren’t serious enough for him to stop speaking. "The King’s word is law. Well, his words, supposedly."
It was clear to both of them that they were only doing this inane chore because the King’s mate was a human sympathizer. Not that Boris’s own mate was a werewolf advocate herself. Hell, Lyne even had more prejudice against werewolves than he would’ve liked to admit. Still, trying to save every enemy combatant was only making their own fighting force more susceptible to being routed just because they were holding back. They were in a war, for crying out loud. Pulling their own punches against an enemy that wants to kill them should be the last thing on their minds.
"As if you also don’t want to do this," Davin scoffed. "You’re so desperate for that mate of yours that you’d probably turn yourself human if it meant she’d fully accept you."
Boris wisely kept his silence as he focused more on his actual job. He wouldn’t allow himself to be baited by that sly vampire. Instead, he came up with something of his own as he replied, "Why don’t you focus more on making our job easier then? You’re constantly complaining when I’m sure you can do something about all this."
Davin stopped for the briefest of moments before he began moving again. Boris’s suggestion gave him an idea, something that will stop at least a good chunk of the fighting around them.
"I am Davin Yue, son of Jude Yue, and a Prince of the Moon Clan!" he proudly declared, stunning everyone in his immediate vicinity as they listened to him. "We don’t want to fight! Surrender now, and all of your lives will be spared!"
His actions had an immediate effect. Those that saw that they were hopelessly outgunned laid down their weapons, while the others that didn’t clearly lost a good chunk of their morale, making them easier to put down. Still, it was more than enough to minimize casualties and infection rates.
"Well that worked," Boris barked out. "Why didn’t you do that sooner?"
"Because I don’t like being recognized?" Davin sighed. "I’m sure that stunt I just pulled will give me some unwanted attention."
"Grandson?"
Davin flinched. And of course, as the vampire had predicted, someone had indeed recognized him.
"Hello, Grandmother," Davin greeted with a sigh.
In the background, Boris could only watch as his comrade vibrated with the urge to get as far away from there as possible. He didn’t know why, but he could already sense the fireworks about to explode from the two.
