Chapter 224: To be your man

Boris quickly checked on his overall grooming inside his room before hurriedly making his way to Lyne’s room. He had a bright smile on his face as he nodded at the betas guarding the door, making them quickly leave the area as he stood before the one thing separating him from his mate. Intrepidly, Boris knocked on the door, informing the woman inside of his presence.

"Boris? Come in," Lyne greeted as she opened the door, quickly pulling him in to sit on the couch with her. "Any news? Why are you here?"

Boris couldn’t help but show his disappointment with a light shrug of his shoulders. What did he expect? Did he honestly think Lyne pulled him in like that because she missed him? That was obviously not the case...

Making peace with himself, he released a sigh before getting Lyne up to speed in regards to the situation.

"So, after all this time, he still has his eyes on the clan..." Lyne hummed with a frown marring her features. "I’m sure it’s Randall who worked on it." It would seem that things just got a lot more complicated with King Marcus finally awake.

"The King is very adamant in letting your Boss go back to Marcus," Boris informed.

Lyne sighed, "But he has to let her go, or else those two kids will definitely get killed come tomorrow."

"That’s the thing. He wants to infiltrate the Moon Clan and kill King Marcus while saving the two kids..." Boris added. "Nathan really wants to have his cake and eat it too."

Hearing about the plan, Lyne looked at Boris with wide eyes as she gasped, "No! You can’t! The moment you kill King Marcus, Randall will also kill those two kids!"

"Huh? What do you mean?" Boris frowned as he questioned. "Why would they kill the two kids when their ruler’s already dead?"

Lyne shook her head as she pointed out, "You all don’t know how King Marcus’s mind works... He wouldn’t be on the throne to this day if he was someone you can so easily beat..." She muttered out, "The Princess, our Boss... She’s the only one who can beat him. You’re all making a wrong move-"

"We all need to talk. This is urgent," a voice announced.

Lyne’s words were cut off at Aspen’s sudden arrival. She didn’t even realize when the door had swung open, allowing the man, along with Decan, to enter her room.

At the surprise additions in the room, Boris couldn’t help but frown at his luck. These two rats just disturbed his moment with his mate when he wasn’t even personally close with either of them. He annoyingly scratched his head, his legs already about to stand up as he said, "Fine. Let’s go n-"

"No need. Here’s just fine," Aspen headed Boris off, signaling the man to remain on his seat beside Lyne while he and Decan grabbed a chair to sit in front of them. As soon as everyone was situated, he then looked at Lyne and opened the topic. "The Princess apparently has a plan, and she said you could enlighten us on how going with the exchange would be the best choice to make in this situation. You see, King Nathan wants us to infiltrate the Moon Clan Territory before the sun rises with the goal of assassinating King Marcus and rescuing the hostages. And that’s approximately six hours from now..."

Aspen then moved on to discuss the details his mother relayed to him regarding Raine’s request. By the end of it, Lyne had a pensive look on her face as she thought about the details.

"Well?"

"You have to listen to our Princess," Lyne bluntly reasoned. "That plan of yours is doomed to failure. After all, you guys don’t even know where the hostages are. And even if we trace their location through Mia, there’s no guarantee that you’ll find them still alive, especially if you plan on killing King Marcus along the way."

She sighed as she continued, "Look, I’m not looking down on you all since werewolves are still supernatural beings, but despite all of that, you all still have limitations. We have more than enough technology that can kill you before you can even step foot inside our borders. Attacking the territory with such a slapdash plan like this is death. You need a lot more than an hour of planning and studying because if you mobilize with just this plan, even your supernatural strengths will be no match to the technologies we possess. And that’s not to mention the fact that King Marcus is now awake. He’s not like our Princess. He’s someone who won’t even bat an eye in sacrificing innocent lives inside our territory just to eliminate your entire kind."

Hearing the grave warning Lyne gave out, Decan could only clench his fists as he murmured, "I’m willing to face punishment for disobeying the King. As long as I can make sure that my daughter will return here alive, then I’ll take anything he might dish out on me."

At Decan’s word, Aspen sighed deeply as he decided, "Alright, let’s do as the Princess suggested. I’ll also face the punishment along with our King’s wrath later... For now, what’s important is to get Crissa and Leon back to safety."

At the two men’s declaration, Boris dropped his shoulders as he murmured, "Do I really have to participate in this decision? Can you two just give me some slack and not involve me in this plan against King Nathan? He’s my only lifeline right now, so I can’t afford to lose his favor like the two of you."

At Boris’s complaints, Aspen chuckled, "Don’t worry. You won’t need to involve yourself in the exchange, Boris."

"Then for once, I might cheer for you in the upcoming Battle for the Throne. You two go on ahead and prepare what needs to be done." Boris let out a sigh, giving Aspen a knowing look before he telepathically added, [Get the hell out of here. And drag Decan with you, will you? At least give me enough time to have a private moment with my mate. You do know that my life’s already balancing on a thin thread as it is, and-]

[You talk too much,] Aspen mentally growled as he stood up. He then used his lips as he announced, "I suppose we’ll take our leave now. We’ll be waiting for the Princess to call us."

With that, Aspen and Decan soon left. Looking at the closed door, Lyne wondered why Boris remained with her. And so, she asked, "Do you have something else to say?"

Turning his head to her, Boris gave her a bashful smile as he said, "Hmm, nothing. Just that I miss you and I wanna make sure that you’re fine."

"Thank you then," Lyne tersely replied. "I’m fine."

"How about your wounds?"

Taken aback, Lyne fought the blush trying to show itself on her face as she mumbled, "Healing. They’re just minor wounds from falls and scratches, so there’s really nothing to worry about. How about you?"

"I’m a strong man so you don’t need to worry," Boris firmly stated. "Also, I’m here to promise you that for as long as I live, I’ll definitely take Danos’s life by any means necessary."

Hearing his declaration, Lyne sighed deeply as she shook her head. With a faint smile, she said, "You’ve already done enough, Boris. In fact, I’d appreciate it if you can stop putting yourself in danger anymore to pursue Danos. Life is really short, and I’m starting to question if everything’s even worth it."

Boris’s shoulders dropped at her tone as he unconsciously voiced out, "But it’s worth it... It’s always worth it to try, even if it might cost me my life. After all, it’s the only way you’ll even give me a chance to be your mate... To be your man..."

Lyne was still caught off-guard by that straightforward statement though she already knew how candid Boris could be. She smiled at him as she unconsciously touched Bori’s hand and gently squeezed it. "I’m seeing you in a different light now, Boris. Maybe not yet as deep as what you feel for me, but I’m slowly walking in your direction. You’re a good man, and I can see that already. I wanted to give you a chance without you pursuing Danos’s head."

Boris’s face brightened as a genuine and sweet smile carved his face. He grabbed both of Lyne’s hands and gently kissed her knuckles as he rejoiced, "Thank you so much, Lyne! Oh, you won’t regret giving me a chance to prove myself to you. I will be patient and wait until you’re ready to accept me fully!"

Lyne’s face reddened as she gave him a bashful smile. She really appreciated how Boris could make her feel secure and for her, it was good progress indeed.

Boris was on cloud nine at that moment because he could feel that Lyne was slowly opening up to him like this. Mia was right. All he needed was a bit of patience...
