Chapter 219: His spy
[Everyone’s anxious. They’re all talking about Marcus’s message and why you even have to send back the woman unscathed...] Aspen telepathically opened with Nathan as they walked through the hallway going towards Boris’s room. [I’m sure they’ll send Lyne and the Princess back to Marcus just to get Crissa and Cole home alive and safe,] he added. [We’ll have to send her back-]
Before Aspen could even finish his thought, however, Nathan suddenly growled. Immediately, the former stopped, knowing that it had been a growl telling him to stop talking. He kept his quiet as Nathan sighed while shaking his head beside him. He could already tell that there was no way his King would ever send Raine back into enemy territory. But then, how could he save the two kids without doing such a thing in the first place?
Already, Aspen was restless just at the thought of Crissa staying within the Moon Clan compound for far too long. He had to do something, but what...
Not a moment sooner, he and Nathan entered Boris’s room of confinement, the latter’s face instantly souring upon seeing Nathan enter.
"So... How long do you plan on keeping us here?" Boris wryly scorned. He was already annoyed at the fact that they took him away from Lyne and confined him in some random room away from her. Ah... It was the reason why he felt so lonely in the first place, having no choice but to wait for death, knowing full well that there was no way he could escape death should Nathan’s plan not succeed.
"Are you ready?" Nathan asked.
"What do you think?" Boris sarcastically scoffed. "Of course I am... I’ve already practiced my dialogue to hell and back! You won’t find any loopholes in my script, so you better keep your promise to keep me alive," he mumbled out with a pout, not unlike a petty child forced to go along with his parents.
Hearing him, Nathan smiled and nodded, "Then let’s go and show me what you’ve got. You better convince them that you’re the spy I sent deep into the Moon Clan Territory."
At the King’s word, Boris stood up from his seat and obediently followed behind the man with Aspen walking beside him. Looking back, Nathan’s revised story was somehow convincing enough to keep his head intact, but he wasn’t sure if Danos would even buy it. After all, he did deliberately refuse to stop attacking the prick during their fight. Then again Nathan reassured him that they could easily justify his actions by framing it as him protecting his mate, Lyne, alongside his established hidden grudge against Danos for kicking him out of the society. On paper, ’his’ contributions towards providing Nathan important intel regarding the Moon Clan Territory should be just enough for him to be acknowledged as being back under their King’s wing and pack...
Of course, Boris also memorized everything that Nathan told him to. He still had to prove that he was really the King’s spy hell-bent on restoring his honor and showing repentance in order to be accepted back into the Convel Society, after all. Either way, it was still a better option than being decapitated by Danos.
"Don’t be nervous. The King will definitely keep you alive," Aspen teasingly reminded the former Alpha. "You owe your life to him now, so you better make sure to present a good act later."
Recognizing the man’s tone, Boris scoffed with a hint of sarcasm, "It’s too early to assume that. We’re not even sure if this plan will even work."
Aspen chuckled, "You’re still as impulsive as ever... No wonder Danos easily managed to make you take the fall." He then continued, practically scolding his dear irritated friend, "You should know to watch your temper by now. You’ve learned your lesson, right? Don’t act on your impulses..."
"Yeah yeah..." Boris grunted. "Still..."
"The plan is solid, so don’t forget to thank the King later if your head’s still intact with your body," Aspen morbidly suggested in jest. "It’s already a miracle that he’s showing you kindness. If I were him... I’d probably just let you rot since you clearly haven’t learned your lesson still."
Boris could only growl in reply. He couldn’t even defend himself because he knew that Aspen had a valid point against him.
"Ugh... I still can’t believe how the Blue Moon pack managed to hide his existence from our society..." Boris grumbled out, pointedly aiming his lips at Nathan. He wasn’t aware of the man’s existence at all even during his time inside the Convel Society. If anything, it just meant that the Blue Moon pack did an extremely solid job in hiding Nisha’s son from all of them, presenting him only to bravely challenge the former King Decan for a Battle for the Throne.
"And I still can’t believe that the Alpha of the Night Crawler pack was kicked out easily by their Elder," Aspen spat back, earning yet another annoying growl from Boris.
"Enough with your scolding already. You’re starting to sound like an Elder despite us being the same age!" Boris ground out in annoyance, making Aspen chuckle in amusement. Oh how the latter missed teasing this bug buddy of his, whose temper was really something to behold when given the time to simmer.
Nearing their destination, the group could already feel the tension brewing inside the room despite their distance. Behind his king, Aspen could only sigh as he watched Nathan’s back lead them from the front. He already knew that their king would definitely have a hard time talking once the matter of Marcus’s message regarding the exchanges of hostages came up to be discussed. His King strongly refused to send the Princess of the Moon Clan back to Marcus. Instead, he was even planning on going on an all-out war against the Moon Clan just to avoid the problem.
As soon as Nathan entered the room, the general discussions began, and the King started with how Boris was actually his spy sent to gather enough intel and information from within the Moon Clan Territory.
"I have with me the entire blueprint of the Moon Clan Territory," Boris firmly declared. "I have every detail that is needed for us to be able to siege and attack them successfully..."
