Chapter 196: All had been wiped out
As soon as Tyrone wrapped everything up, he finally got the time to visit Carlos. The current Mirage Historian was the one that Aire referred to that could answer all of his questions pertaining to the Voyager’s Watch and the ordeals revolving around it. Although Aire knew everything about the Voyager’s Watch, he was not careless to ask and compromise her daughter knowing about the ordeal she would face in case any details from her would cause alterations on the preordained future.
Driving the car to the address, he stopped at a flower shop he managed to pass by. The sun was setting already by then, and the flower shop was about to close.
He had a smile as he quickly asked for a bouquet of red roses. It was for Raine to congratulate her on the job well done in saving Xander, as well as for the innocent lives saved in the process. Red roses suited her best and he could not wait to tease her about it, a beauty with thorns.
Going back inside the car, he still wore that beautiful smile on his face as he opened his car’s glove box, checking the small box that he kept inside. It was something he bought when he went out with Aire and the latter bought presents for the others. He opened it, letting out a sigh of mixed excitement and nervousness. It was a ring with a red diamond in the center accentuated by small white diamonds encircling in it. It was a rare gem like Raine.
Grabbing the ring, he put it inside the envelope with the bouquet of roses alongside his note. He was overflowing with love for Raine, and he longed to show it to her openly like this. She deserved the wonderful things he was giving her, and this was only the beginning. He couldn’t wait to do a lot of stuff with Raine in the future and give her everything he had...
He placed the bouquet on the passenger’s seat and started the engine to drive back up on the road toward his destination. Arriving, the security at the gate let him in as soon as he mentioned his name. He then parked the car and saw an old man approaching him as he went out.
"You finally arrived. A bit later than I expected though," the old man commented. It was the first time that Tyrone had met the old man, who instantly introduced himself, "I am Carlos."
Tyrone accepted the handshake and followed the old man as he walked inside his house. He led him into one of his secret rooms where he kept some of the important files regarding the Mirage Diaries.
"Please sit... Would you like something to drink? I’m good at brewing tea. Would you want to try it?" Carlos asked, and Tyrone nodded with a smile. He didn’t sit yet, instead only walked around inside the room as he stared at the books around him.
"So many books kept in here..." Tyrone murmured as he grabbed one to read. It was one of the Mirage Diaries in 1990. There were so many compilations in there and he could not believe how the Historian kept them all safe and sound like this for centuries he bet.
"Oh yeah. It has been here for generations, but the new king of the Earth Clan is currently building more permanent storage for these files, wherein future Mirage Historians would simply store every book they’ve finished. Far unlike before when we Historians would transfer all of these to the next one. Such a pain in the ass and too much hassle," Carlos complained with a grin as he started preparing the tea.
Sitting on the couch, Tyrone smiled and said, "It’s good that they’re doing something about it now for your convenience. It’s best to store them in a very huge space underground. To keep the confidentiality..."
"Right and that’s the plan I heard. They already started the construction and hopefully, they will finish it within this year. I’m soon to retire so the next Mirage Historian will be lucky to use that facility with ease," Carlos commented with a grin. Tyrone nodded as he put back the book on the shelf and walked towards the couch to sit. As Aire said, Carlos seemed to be a very accommodating and nice man.
"You will soon retire. Can I ask who will soon replace you?"
There was a chuckle as Carlos replied, "Hmm, I believe you know or somehow heard of the next Mirage Historian since he’s quite popular... Gavin Wu from country D."
"The international news anchor, Gavin Wu?" Tyrone reconfirmed.
"Yeah... He’s a writer too so I guess he will do well in this job," Carlos murmured with a grin.
"I’m curious... Mirage seems to be special compared to other secret societies. I mean there’s even a Historian with gifts like you. How do you even know that you’ve chosen? Or how can the Mirage know who will be chosen as a Historian."
Carlos chuckled and said, "Ah, let’s keep the mystery in that for now. It will be a long story and I believe you’re here to talk about something very important."
He finished the tea and walked towards Tyrone, serving it on the table. "I guess Aire already disappeared yesterday. I saw the blue moon," he commented, Tyrone nodding as he sipped on the cup of tea.
"I need to give you something. I’ve been waiting for you to visit me so I can finally hand this over to you." Carlos said.
The old man then walked to one of the paintings in the room. Tyrone watched as he placed his palm on the painting. It moved, and there was a vault the man opened with an iris scan.
’It’s the Voyager’s Watch,’ Tyrone thought when Carlos grabbed a box and opened it. He already saw the Voyager’s Watch once, since Aire had shown it to him before.
Carlos walked towards him and handed him the watch before sitting on the seat opposite of him.
"I believe that Aire had already told you how to keep and hide it?" Carlos reconfirmed.
Tyrone nodded and then whispered, "Why me?"
"I don’t know either but I saw you in my dream... This scene in particular where I am handing the Voyager’s Watch to you. That is a sign for me that the Voyager’s Watch chose you to be its keeper." Carlos explained.
Tyrone stared at the watch in his palm, and with but a thought, it instantly disappeared, combining smoothly into his body. Aire didn’t mention the side-effect feeling though.
"It’s always nauseating whenever you have hidden the Voyager’s Watch for the first time in your body. It will take around thirty minutes before you can come back to feeling normal," Carlos commented.
Tyrone felt as if his stomach was turning upside down. Carlos knew what would happen next, so he simply pointed to the restroom not far there for Tyrone to use and vomit on for some time. He had never felt something like this before. This was probably the feeling of getting drunk too much and then vomiting afterwards. Retching, it took him some time to compose himself inside the restroom. He had to wash his face to ease the feeling he had as he stared at the mirror in front of him. Raking his hand through his hair, his face went green as he once more bowed down and puked again.
Outside, Carlos finished his tea as he waited for Tyrone to gather his wits. He let out a long sigh as he murmured, "He’s going to be late..."
He was about to stand up but paused with his eyes open. Suddenly, he entered into a daydream-like state and witnessed what was akin to a live stream event happening. Alertly, he quickly walked to his table and chair and began writing everything he was seeing as if he was being possessed.
Meanwhile, Tyrone finally went out of the restroom as soon as he managed to compose himself. He saw Carlos on his chair, absentmindedly writing something like he was in a hurry. Walking towards him, his eyes widened as he read what the old man was writing, "What is this?"
He unconsciously shook Carlos’s shoulders, bringing the man back to reality.
"What is going on? What are you writing? Raine is attacking the Convel Society?" Tyrone hysterically asked. "That can’t be! We agreed to delay it until I can convince everyone!"
"Aire disappeared..."
"Yeah, she did, and Raine forgot about her... I..." There was a long pause when Tyrone realized how he didn’t check if it was only Aire that she forgot about.
"Yes. They will all not remember Aire, including the things that involve the girl during her stay here. Their days with her, their memories that have Aire in it. all had been wiped out along with her existence here. Whether they be people or things, they will be erased. That is one of the powers of the Voyager’s Watch, Tyrone..."
"No..." Tyrone whispered in terror. "You mean Raine is now attacking?" he gasped, only watching in horror as Carlos nodded. At that instant, Tyrone rushed outside.
Carlos murmured, "He still needs to know a lot of things about the Voyager’s Watch..."
