Chapter 92: Power Gap
DESCENDING!
One thousand feet...
Three thousand feet...
Ten thousand feet...
Twenty thousand feet...
Fifty thousand feet...
Hmm? What’s going on here? How am I not reaching the bottom yet? I couldn’t help but wonder.
Fifteen minutes later...
"Alright, something is not right here..." I said to myself, feeling slightly concerned about this whole situation.
Furthermore, surrounded by almost pitch-black darkness, I can’t see a thing. The only bit of light comes from above the hole, but it’s so faint it’s practically useless—just barely enough to give me a vague sense of my surroundings. I’ve been falling endlessly for what feels like fifteen minutes now, with no sign of ever reaching the bottom.
Then out of nowhere, a thundering, powerful voice echoed from below. "How rude! How dare you enter my domain without permission! Speak! Who the hell are you?!"
I see. I was wondering why I was still falling even after more than fifteen minutes. Turns out, this Vampire Demigod is the reason behind all of this.
I shouted back and replied, "I mean no harm! I’m just here to help you!"
"Help me?! What in the world are you talking about?! A mere mortal like you wants to help me?! Ha! What a joke!" the Vampire Demigod sneered in disdain. "Leave now while I’m still being nice! Refuse, and you’ll have only yourself to blame if you die here!"
I could tell this higher being held nothing but contempt for mortals like me. But whatever—it didn’t matter. I had a hidden quest to complete and rewards to claim, so there was no way I would leave just like this.
I shouted back again, "Are you sure you don’t need me?! I know for a fact you’re badly injured right now! If you don’t get help soon, your situation could get a whole lot worse!"
"Y-You! How did you know that?!" the Vampire Demigod replied with a tone of surprise and panic. It seemed this Vampire Demigod didn’t expect that I knew about his or her injuries. "Speak! Who sent you here to kill me?!"
Huh? What is this idiot talking about? Did this Vampire Demigod get involved in some kind of conflict in the upper realm, get injured, and then escape to the Mortal World? Well, whether that’s true or not, it sure sounded like this Vampire Demigod was being hunted down by someone. Perhaps there was a bounty on his/her head.
"No one sent me here, so you don’t have to worry about anything!" I replied. "I came here on my own to help you personally! Besides, I’m just a mortal anyway, so what could someone like me possibly do to harm you?! Trust me, I’m only here to help you!"
For a moment, there was silence, broken only by the sound of my falling. I figured this Vampire Demigod was probably deciding whether or not to trust me, or that I was trustworthy.
A few minutes later...
"Alright, I trust you!" the Vampire Demigod replied, but this time, the voice was noticeably softer, almost sounding like a woman’s voice. Which got me thinking for a moment: was this vampire bastard actually a woman this whole time?
In an instant, the environment around me shifted, and before I knew it, I was no longer falling. Instead, I found myself in what appeared to be a vast, unfamiliar ancient library. How did I know it was a library? Simple—I could see there were books everywhere.
I’m not sure where I am exactly right now, but it seems I must be at the inner entrance of this ancient library. The bookshelves weren’t the only thing here—right in front of me stood a massive, towering fountain, its waters cascading beautifully.
There, floating above the giant fountain was a beautiful woman with blonde hair and red eyes, staring directly at me as though my very soul were under her gaze. For a moment, I was confused—she didn’t seem injured at all. In fact, she seemed perfectly fine and healthy.
After a brief moment, she slowly descended, floating gently until her feet touched the ground. She landed right in front of the enormous fountain and then began walking leisurely toward me.
In an instant, my heart began to race. I didn’t know what was happening, but every instinct in my body screamed for me to run. It was hard to put into words, but I knew—without a shadow of a doubt—that this vampire woman was incredibly powerful. In her eyes, I was no more than an insignificant ant, something that could be crushed at any moment with a simple flick of her will.
Ugh, what is this pressure?! Her aura was so powerful that it felt suffocating! I couldn’t help but collapse to my knees. It was as if something heavy were pressing down on me, like an intense gravitational force forcefully pinning me into the ground.
"Argh! S-Stop! What the fuck are you doing?! I’m here to help you, not fight you!" I shouted desperately.
It was then that the heavy pressure stopped. "Oops! My bad! I just wanted to test and see how strong you are," she said casually. "Well, now that I have an idea of your general strength, I suppose I can rest easy now knowing you’re far too weak to kill me."
Ugh, what an ungrateful bitch! I’m here to help her, and this is how she treats me... I know she was just testing me, but damn, that hurt like hell! It felt like every bone, organ, and piece of flesh in my body was being crushed internally. On top of that, I could hardly even breathe earlier.
After a short while, I managed to get back up on my feet, feeling a little better, though my body was still shaky. I struggled to maintain my balance, my legs weak and unsteady beneath me. For some reason, the pressure just now seemed to have numbed my legs, like it had drained all the strength from them in an instant.
Goddammit! So this is the power of a Vampire Demigod, huh? I thought I’d seen some serious strength before, but this is on an entirely different level.
Jeez, I bet even those aliens wouldn’t stand a chance against someone like her. The gap in power between us is absolutely insane. It’s not just big, it’s monstrous. I can’t even wrap my head around it. It feels like I’m standing before something beyond my comprehension, something so far out of my league, it’s almost like comparing heaven and earth.
