Chapter 61: Recovering & Escaping
Ding!
[Game over! You have died!]
The world faded to black, and for a moment, there was nothing—no pain, no sound, just emptiness.
Actually, there was a sound—a system notification alerting me "Game over," and that I had died.
In any case, hooray! Woohoo! Hahaha! I’m finally free and no more pain! Yes! Hahaha!
However, after a few minutes, I began to feel sleepy, and before I knew it, I lost consciousness once more.
...
...
When I opened my eyes again, I had lost track of how much time had passed—perhaps a few days or even weeks had gone by, or perhaps even longer than that. Of course, the first thing that greeted me when I woke up was a hologram screen displaying in front of me:
[Your body is regenerating. Please be patient...]
[HP: 2%]
So my HP is at 2%, huh? Well, that’s dangerously low, near the point of death. And I guess I still have 98% left to fully recover.
Well, let’s see... After a short while, I gradually became aware that I was in the exact same state as I had been before—back when I was in the colossal alien spaceship’s eerie garbage hall.
Just like last time, the only part of my body that remained was my head—no upper body, no lower body—nothing. Yep, it seemed for some reason my head always regenerated first. However, the real question is: why is it so dark here? Where the hell even am I?
Ah, this is getting unbearable, let alone being able to see a damn thing. Moreover, some unknown substance seemed to slip into my eyes and mouth whenever I opened them. Hmm, I wondered what it could be. In any case, this is becoming increasingly inconvenient, and I couldn’t even open my eyes or mouth without feeling extreme discomfort.
As time went on, I started to suspect that I might be buried beneath some kind of soil. The sensation was undeniable—after all, I could feel the texture with my tongue, and it did feel unmistakably like dirt. The thought of being trapped like this, with no proper body, no hands, and no legs, filled me with a sense of helplessness. There was nothing I could do to get rid of the soil inside my mouth and eyes. Every attempt to move or shift was met with resistance, as if my very existence had been reduced to this confining state.
Man, this extreme discomfort feels like straight-up suffering, but whatever, I guess. I figured I would have to bear with it for roughly a few weeks, just waiting patiently as my body slowly healed and regrew the parts I’m missing. It felt like everything was trying to piece itself back together, bit by bit. Every day, I hoped for some sign of progress, something that would let me know things were slowly getting back to normal. The waiting was tough, and not knowing how long it would take only made it even worse, but there wasn’t anything I could do at the moment except to wait it out.
...
...
Approximately one week later...
By now, my upper body had almost fully healed, allowing me to use my hands. However, there was one major issue — I didn’t have any fingers yet. Nevertheless, it was enough to help me brush away some of the dirt or soil from my eyes and mouth, but without fingers, there was only so much I could manage and clean at the moment.
Well, I can’t really complain much since, all things considered, it’s still better than nothing – at least there has been some progress.
The next day...
For the entire day, I desperately tried to dig my way up, but to no avail. Goddammit! How deep was I buried? I could only guess that John must have consumed my flesh and blood, while leaving my skeleton buried here. Either way, it’s incredibly deep for sure. Ugh, I can’t believe that motherfucker buried me so far down.
Another few days passed, and by now, my fingers had returned. Once again, I refused to give up and kept trying to crawl my way up, but in the end, it was a failure once again. It wasn’t so much that I lacked the will—it was because the heavy rain over these past few days had turned the soil into a soggy mess, making it impossible to get a good grip on it.
How did I know it was raining? I could hear the steady drumming above, and water was seeping through the soil, soaking me to the bone. I was drenched, miserable, and wet as hell right now.
This wasn’t the end yet. Occasionally, unknown worms would wriggle all over me. I couldn’t tell what kind of worms they were, as it was too dark to see—possibly earthworms, though it was hard to say, as I could only feel them with my hands. In any case, I was incredibly hungry, so I ate them regardless. The taste wasn’t too bad, I guess. However, given my current situation, I couldn’t afford to be too picky anyway. Gotta eat as much as I can to calm my damn hunger.
GROWL!
Ah, my stomach growled again. I guess the amount of worms I ate still wasn’t enough.
...
...
A total of roughly three to four weeks had passed...
Ding!
[Congratulations on your recovery! Not only has your body fully healed, but you’ve also triggered a significant boost: your Strength and Agility stats have each increased by 10 points, enhancing your overall physical power.]
[STR: 271 >> 281]
[AGI: 88 >> 98]
Hearing that I’ve finally fully healed, I can’t help but feel overjoyed. Woohoo! Hell yeah! Finally! Holy shit! This feels like a dream!
However, there’s one problem—why can’t I escape this soil? I’ve been digging my way up nonstop for so long, yet it doesn’t feel like I’m making much progress. No, wait a minute... am I even making any progress at all? I wonder.
[Warning! This world is on the verge of collapse and ending. Please evacuate quickly before it’s too late!]
BAAAMMM!!!
Suddenly, out of nowhere, I heard a loud thud above me, as if something immensely heavy had slammed into the soil.
W-What in the world is going on?!! What the hell was that just now?!!
