Chapter 48: Goblin Chief & Goblin Captains
Chapter 48: Goblin Chief & Goblin Captains
The fight raged on, and for a moment, it felt like we were holding our ground. But then, in the distance, something massive appeared—a goblin, towering five times taller than the others, stomping toward us with a club big enough to crush a bus. And it wasn’t alone. Two smaller—but still massive—goblins flanked it, each armed with wicked-looking maces.
Oh, great. A boss monster—the Goblin Chief—accompanied by two mini-bosses, the Goblin Captains.
"Thorin!" I shouted, pointing toward the newcomers. "We’ve got a boss monster and two mini-bosses heading our way!"
WHOOSH!
Before I could even process what was happening, the Goblin Chief launched itself through the air—hundreds of meters—and landed almost right in front of me with a bone-shaking THUMP!
Immediately, Thorin’s gaze locked onto the massive creature, his jaw tightening. "Everyone, fall back to the gate now!" he commanded. "I’ll take care of the Goblin Chief! The rest of you, handle the Goblin Captains and the remaining Goblin Soldiers! Don’t let them reach the Crystal Altar!"
Without wasting a second, everyone jumped into action. Even John looked focused for once, though he couldn’t help cracking a grin. "Finally, something worth my time," he said, dark magic flaring as he got ready for the fight.
Meanwhile, as we continued slaying one goblin after another, I noticed something: I was leveling up faster than I’d anticipated. Every few punches or more seemed to drop another one, and I could feel myself getting stronger the more I kill.
Ding!
[You have slain a Goblin Soldier!]
[You have slain a Goblin Soldier!]
[You have slain a Goblin Soldier!]
The system pings just kept coming, almost like a soundtrack to the chaos.
[Leveled Up!]
[Leveled Up!]
[Leveled Up!]
Man, it was happening so fast—way faster than I expected. Damn, I barely even had time to catch my breath before another goblin hit the ground. I could feel my power building up with every level-up, especially since I immediately dumped all my available stat points into my strength as soon as I got them.
...
...
[Level: 112 >> 135]
[STR: 185 + 23 >> 208]
"Alright, leave the two Goblin Captains to me!" John said confidently. He quickly channeled dark energy into his daggers, coating them in flickering black flames that danced with an eerie, ominous glow. With a wicked smile, he lunged forward in a burst of speed, the flames trailing behind him as he charged straight at the two Goblin Captains. His eyes sparkled with excitement, pumped for the challenge.
ROAR!
As I watched John take on the two Goblin Captains by himself, I couldn’t help but be impressed by his strength. He seemed to be both an assassin and a dark mage—basically, he had two classes. I wasn’t sure if he was stronger than Thorin or not. It was hard to tell, since neither Thorin nor John had really fought with everything they had yet. They both seemed to be hiding their full power.
Hold on... now that I think about it, am I the only one here who can level up? I just realized that Thorin and the others have killed tons of monsters, yet their levels haven’t changed at all. Even Thorin, who’s Level 200, didn’t level up after taking down that Level 205 Colossal T-Rex earlier in the 2nd trial. Hmm, I guess I’m the only one here who functions like a video game character.
The Goblin Chief roared, shaking the air around us like a thunderclap, its monstrous eyes locked on Thorin. The ground trembled beneath its feet as it raised its massive club. Thorin didn’t flinch. His greatsword was already in hand, its blade glowing with intense red flames. In an instant, they charged at each other, the clash of their weapons shaking the very earth.
CLANG! RUMBLE!
Meanwhile, chaos engulfed the battlefield. The remaining Goblin Soldiers swarmed relentlessly, their numbers seeming endless despite our efforts to cut them down. Honestly, I’m going to complain, though—because leveling up fast was a good thing. But damn, it felt like these goblins just kept coming.
[You have slain a Goblin Soldier!]
[Leveled Up!]
[Leveled Up!]
Then, as I scanned the field in the distance, I saw more goblins spawning out of nowhere, charging straight at us. W-What the hell is this?! Another wave of 500 goblins?! Fuck, no wonder it felt like there was no end to them. Turns out, they had reinforcements sneaking into the battle without us noticing. Dammit! If this keeps up, we’ll eventually run out of energy—and when that happens, we’re screwed!
As more goblins flooded in, I could feel the pressure building up. There were just so many of them now, like they were popping up out of thin air. I tightened my fists, throwing punches and kicks left and right, knocking goblins down one after another. My arms were getting sore, but I couldn’t stop. Not now.
Meanwhile, John was having a blast, taking on the Goblin Captains like they were nothing. His daggers were glowing with black flames, and he moved like a blur, getting in and out of their guard with ease. I couldn’t help but be impressed by this guy. He made it look easy. But even I could tell he was pushing himself a little, his speed showing signs of slowing down.
Thorin, on the other hand, was locked in a deathmatch with the Goblin Chief. That thing was massive, and every time it swung its huge club, the ground shook. But Thorin was keeping up, his greatsword glowing with fiery red energy. Every time their weapons clashed, it felt like the whole battlefield trembled. Still, it was obvious that Thorin was starting to get a little worn out.
PUNCH! PUNCH! PUNCH! KICK! KICK! KICK!
I kept throwing punches and kicks, leveling up faster than I could keep track. With every kill, I felt my strength growing, and I could feel the boost to my stats hit hard. My body was starting to move on its own, like I was in a rhythm now.
Ding!
[You have slain a Goblin Soldier!]
[Leveled Up!]
[Leveled Up!]
[Leveled Up!]
It felt like I was getting stronger every second, as I kept pumping my stat points into strength without thinking. It wasn’t long before I realized that I was tankier and hitting way harder than before. It was like I could feel the power building up inside me.
"Alright, the two Goblin Captains have been taken care of! With that, I’ll handle the next wave of goblins from here. As for you guys, stay at the gate and keep defending—don’t let them through!" John said, grinning as he darted toward them. This guy was having way too much fun. I watched as he rushed into the fray, his daggers crackling with dark energy. He was definitely holding his own well and didn’t need our help at all.
Phew... I thought we were done for, but I guess there’s still hope.
Looking up at the clear blue sky, I noticed the sun was still as bright as ever. Dammit, I guess we still have a long way to go before we can take a break.
Then in the distance, something huge was approaching. I squinted, trying to make out what it was. And then it hit me.
A dragon.
It wasn’t the biggest dragon I’d ever seen, but it was big enough to make me question my life choices. Its black scales shimmered in the sunlight, and its wings stretched wide, casting a shadow over the battlefield. I couldn’t believe it. They had a freaking dragon.
W-Wait, hold up! Oh, hell no! Man, this is getting way too much! A dragon?! Seriously, bro?! Are you fucking kidding me right now?!
