Chapter 106: Fighting My Clone

Before I could even begin to think, he spoke again. At first, I thought he was finished and would give me time to figure things out, but then he continued, his tone now threatening.

"Ah, if you can’t figure it out, then I won’t be wasting my time fighting you. Instead, I’ll simply run around this vast 5th-floor world, wasting your time on purpose. And guess what? No matter how hard you try, you’ll never catch me, because we share the same speed. And if you can’t kill me, you’ll never complete the quest for this floor. In other words, you’ll be stuck here forever! Hahaha!" He laughed, clearly amused.

This son of a bitch! Every time he laughs, I lowkey just wanna punch him in the face so bad!

Well, anyway, since he put it that way, I guess I have no choice but to play along with his little game. Ugh, how annoying! But, what he just said was indeed true. If he really plans to run away from me the whole time, then there’s no way I would ever catch up to him, especially since our running speeds are the same.

Furthermore, the 5th-floor world was massive, as vast as an entire planet. He could easily leave this grand castle behind and wander out into the open world. Honestly, the idea of playing a game of tag with him didn’t sit well with me, especially if he was truly planning to run around this entire world—or planet, whatever it was. That would be an absolute waste of time.

I didn’t come all this way just to chase him endlessly. After all, I had a much bigger goal to focus on. In order to leave this Tower of Self, I had to complete the quest, and that meant taking down this final boss monster. There was no time to be lost in a pointless chase.

Welp, this is kinda weird... I never thought a boss monster would actually look like me. Oh well, anyway... Goddammit! What a pain in the ass to deal with.

Without wasting any time, I stroked my chin and began thinking.

At first, I thought it was a dirty trick—him getting me to focus on thinking to lower my guard down, so he could strike me. But when I looked at my clone, he was still sitting on the throne, looking completely relaxed, just chilling and smirking at me.

A couple of minutes later...

No way! Holy shit! I finally figured it out!

He was most likely talking about my "Infinite Regeneration" skill. Yeah, that must be it! It makes sense why he said I’d be stuck here on this fifth floor for a long time because I wouldn’t be able to kill him. He would just keep coming back to life, over and over again. Practically unkillable, just like me.

The moment I realized just how bad my situation had gotten, sweat started to form on my forehead, and my heart was pounding in my chest like I’d just sprinted a mile. Fuck! I don’t know what to say at this point, but I believe this time I might have really fucked up big time.

"Bahahahahahaha!!! Hahahahahahaha!!!" he burst into sinister laughter once more, seemingly knowing that I had finally figured it out, judging by the expression on my face.

"No way! No fucking way! I refuse to believe this!" I couldn’t help but panic.

I knew, for a fact, this was going to be a nightmare. I might really be trapped here forever, unable to complete this last quest, let alone defeating this final boss monster. The thought of it was driving me insane. Argh, fuck this! Fuck this shit! This is bullshit!

After a long, hearty laugh, the boss monster finally calmed down, wiping tears from his eyes as he struggled to catch his breath. "Well, thanks for the laugh!" he said, still grinning wide. "Judging by the panic on your face just now, I guess you’ve finally figured it out, huh?"

"Goddammit! I refuse to believe this! This is complete bullshit!" I shouted in frustration, still unable to accept it.

"Hahahaha!!!" He laughed again. "Welp, sadly, it’s true. With my infinite regeneration skill, it means you’ll never be able to kill me. Which means—kekeke!—you’re gonna be stuck here for the rest of your life! No, actually, forever! Bahaha!!!"

He continued, "Ah, I bet you think this overpowered skill is a good thing, right? Too bad! In this Tower of Self, a skill like that is actually a curse. You know why? Because it prevents you from killing me as I’ll just keep regenerating back to life over and over again. Hahaha! Well, I can’t wait because this is gonna be so much fun!" He laughed, clearly enjoying every second of it.

Dammit! Alright, let’s calm down for a second. Panicking wouldn’t do me any good. There’s got to be a way to kill him and get the hell out of this Tower of Self. If I can just figure out the weakness of my skill, the one thing that’s been holding me back right now, I might actually stand a chance at winning this.

Of course, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy—nothing ever was. But after coming all the way here, I wasn’t gonna give up that easily. I believed that, with enough time, enough focus, I’d eventually find a way to overcome this. I had to. There was no other choice.

"Alright! Since you’ve figured it out, let’s fight now, shall we?!" he said, a wide grin spreading across his face. "Hahaha! I’m already excited just thinking about it!" he continued, his eyes burning with excitement. "From the moment you stepped onto the first floor, I’ve been waiting for this, so don’t disappoint me now and make sure you give it your all."

"Welp, fuck it! Since you wanna fight so badly, bring it on then!" I couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement building up inside me.

Maybe it was the adrenaline, or maybe it was the thrill of finally facing a real challenge. Either way, I figured this might actually be the perfect opportunity to push myself to the limit and see just how far I could go.
