Chapter 114: Chapter 114
"Ugh!"
Rong Zhi dodged to the side, intending to kick him, but suddenly, chaotic footsteps sounded from the end of the corridor.
She frowned, her eyes filled with layers of hostility, and without hesitation, she grabbed the collar of the man in front of her, pulling him back into the dark spot they had just avoided.
The two were extremely close. The man seemed exhausted, breathing weakly and heavily. If not for his breath, Rong Zhi would have thought he was dead.
However, he wasn’t far from death.
At the moment they hid, a group of people in protective suits reached the laboratory. Rong Zhi counted, about fifteen of them. If it were just her, she could definitely handle it.
But the trouble was, the man behind her wrapped his hands around her wrists, gripping tightly.
He leaned weakly to her ear and threatened, "If you break free, I’ll shout and let them all know you’re here."
Rong Zhi looked back at him expressionlessly, then leisurely waved her hand in front of him.
The man blinked in surprise, looking down at his empty hands, a trace of disbelief flashing in his eyes.
"Have you found 421?"
A lab worker not far from them asked.
"No, we’ve searched everywhere. That 421 experimenter is too cunning."
"Search here, maybe he’s hiding in the lab... wait, where’s the safe containing Reagent No. 1?"
Damn!
"Ah, they’ve found out."
Even at a time like this, the man still spoke in a leisurely, sarcastic tone.
The next second, a cold sensation was pressed against his forehead.
The man instantly went silent.
"421?"
"Smart."
Rong Zhi slowly pulled the trigger. "Hmm, do you think they’d want you or the reagent?"
The man squinted slightly, a not-so-pleasant thought rising in his heart.
As if to confirm his thinking, Rong Zhi shifted the gun and fired at the shelf, attracting everyone’s attention with a loud bang.
The man’s eyes widened, now genuinely shocked. "Are you crazy?"
He didn’t know if Rong Zhi was crazy, but he was about to go crazy.
As the group sought out the source of the noise, a pair of hands suddenly lifted his collar and flung him into the crowd.
A six-foot-tall man, tossed around by her as if he were a chick.
"421!"
"Quickly, grab him!"
"Wait, he’s holding Reagent No. 1!"
The man dumbly looked at the safe in his arms, then at the people rushing towards him, cursing mentally.
He had thought that person would help him escape, but who knew they were even fiercer than him?
Damn!
As the man was preparing to face reality, a faint gunshot suddenly sounded from behind the group. He saw a nearby lab worker’s head bloom with a not-too-large but not-too-small flower.
Fresh, hot blood splattered on his cheek.
"There’s an intruder!"
"Sound the alarm! Quick! There’s an intruder!"
The group scattered, trying to set off the alarm, but it was too late.
Silent bullets whistled by, piercing through their heads.
The man died instantly.
Seeing this, the others immediately grabbed anything smashable and threw it at the dark figure.
The alarm was even shriller than when 421 first escaped.
Rong Zhi rubbed her ears, her face expressionless as she turned to dodge a high-precision instrument part thrown at her, raising her hand for another shot.
The opponent seemed to know these wouldn’t work on her, so they pulled out guns from their protective suits and fired at her in a chaotic sweep.
421, having hidden to watch the fight, turned and saw a mass of people at the end of the hall. He shouted back at Rong Zhi, "Hey, more people are coming. Can you handle it?"
"Shut up."
Rong Zhi nimbly flipped onto a table, dodging their erratic fire as she ran towards him. She finally struck down with a hand knife on his neck, pulling him forward to shield against the bullets.
The movement was fluid and decisive, showing her as someone seasoned in gunfights.
In seconds, more people arrived. Rong Zhi glanced sideways at 421, who was quivering like a partridge in the corner, waiting for the chance to flee. She squinted and drew a gun from her boot, throwing it over.
Rong Zhi quickly dismantled and assembled the wristbands, standing on the table and smashing the overhead light, making the lab flicker.
In the dim, unclear lab, the boy’s voice was colder than glaciers.
"I don’t save useless people."
As the words fell, 421 suddenly felt his arms empty, the safe gone, a gun replacing it.
A faint sandalwood scent grazed past his nose, followed by the lab workers’ shouts and attempts to capture them. 421’s eyebrows twitched as he snapped back to reality, hurrying to follow the path indicated by the boy.
The lab area was vast, impossible to navigate without guidance for a newcomer. The more 421 walked, the more he realized he undervalued the lab’s complexity.
He knew he couldn’t escape alone.
With this thought, 421 bit his tongue to suppress his weakness, tightly following behind the boy, strategically dealing with the pursuing lab workers.
Rong Zhi cradled the safe with her left hand, gun in the right, retreating and shooting, carving a bloody path through the corridor.
She glanced back at 421, confirmed he was weak but still following, and then ignored him.
More people appeared ahead.
-
Fu Yaoyao had been prepared.
The moment Rong Zhi emerged, she aimed for the lab’s exit.
Rong Zhi and 421 swiftly escaped through the lab’s concealed exit, Fu Yaoyao’s headset buzzing with her husky, cool voice.
"Yao Yao."
"Received."
No explanations needed; their tacit understanding was born from over a decade of deep companionship.
As soon as the black dot appeared in the scope, Fu Yaoyao aimed and fired within 0.1 seconds, her delicate finger pressing the trigger—
"Boom!"
A huge fireball erupted in the sky.
The explosion shocked the residents of the city closest to the Danadan Desert.
Lab workers trailing Rong Zhi and 421 were blasted to pieces, blood splattering. Neither had time to care.
Rong Zhi didn’t know how many were left in the lab, but only some chased her. The timed bombs inside were already set, so she wasn’t worried.
With 421, she crossed the desert back to the oasis, getting into the off-road vehicle. Rong Zhi turned the key and hit the gas, quickly leaving the sand behind.
In the car,
finally exhausted all strength. Confirming no danger, he closed his eyes, his head dropping onto Rong Zhi’s laptop as he fainted.
Rong Zhi had no time for him now. She instructed Fu Yaoyao to clear the area. Just as she and 421 escaped, a louder explosion echoed across Danadan Desert.
"Senior Sister," Fu Yaoyao’s sweet voice laughed gently, saying the bloodiest words softly, "They’re all dead now. Mission accomplished~"
"Mmm," Rong Zhi replied, driving while monitoring the surroundings. "Return to Wu City, I’ve sent the address to you."
"Okay~"
Cutting the connection, Rong Zhi floored the gas pedal.
Back in Wu City, she drove toward the alley.
She parked in front of a small store and got out to knock on the door.
After two minutes, the familiar grating voice asked, "Buy a lighter or bottled water?"
