The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse

Chapter 559: Chapter 552: Turn and Advance Like the Wind

Murphy was convinced he was right.

If Larry and Thompson had accepted his advice from the beginning and blown up both the Pyro-thief and the oil tanks, the Pyro-thief would have died. Although at least one oil tank would have been lost, the refinery could have been saved.

But now, the Pyro-thief had destroyed one oil tank, and although the second one hadn’t been destroyed yet, if the fire wasn’t extinguished, the second oil tank would explode eventually, regardless of the Pyro-thief’s actions.

Thompson could no longer remain calm. He picked up the headset from the ground and bellowed, "Take him out! Take him out!"

The A-10 opened fire again, its autocannon aimed at the Pyro-thief, but everyone could only watch as he once again dodged the gunfire with swift and elusive maneuvers.

Murphy knew it was over, he was done for.

Larry couldn’t help himself any longer. He had never interfered with Thompson’s decisions before, but now, he too screamed at the top of his lungs, "Take him out! Destroy him even if it means taking out the oil tanks!"

Thompson, holding the headset, yelled out, "Use free attack! Take out the target when he goes for the third oil tank, that’s your only chance!"

There were now two planes in the sky, but one of them had already exhausted all its ammunition; only one still had cannon rounds available for attack.

But the A-10 that had just attacked needed to circle back before it could launch a second attack.

The second oil tank exploded, and the attack aircraft finally circled back.

Then, seizing the opportunity, the attack aircraft immediately fired at the Pyro-thief, taking both him and the oil tank out together.

The Pyro-thief got away, but the ammunition hit the oil tank and the spot where the Pyro-thief had just been standing.

Explosion, a massive fire.

The fire quickly engulfed everything, and this time, everyone felt certain that the Pyro-thief must be dead.

No, the Pyro-thief had to die.

Thompson let out a soft breath, then said solemnly, "The Pyro-thief, ultimately killed by the fire, huh..."

Larry also sighed softly, shaking his head, "Such a tough one, but we finally dealt with him. Though we lost three oil tanks, he’s been dealt with at last."

Murphy couldn’t hold back. He knew he wasn’t supposed to say it, but he still couldn’t help himself.

"So, in the end, after all this effort, the oil tanks and the Pyro-thief were both destroyed? How is this different from what I suggested? Oh, I see now, you just revealed that planes can fly from Djibouti to Malakal. What does this exposure tell you? Like me? Did it prematurely reveal a plane that should have remained hidden?"

Larry suddenly turned, glaring fiercely at Murphy, "Shut up!"

Just then, there was another sound of something dropping, followed by the loud crash of a chair falling to the ground.

Larry and Murphy turned to see Thompson, who had just sat down, standing up again, his headset dropped, and even the chair was knocked over by his excessive movement.

Murphy couldn’t help himself, "Seems like... oh, shit!"

The sarcastic Murphy was shocked. He was watching the drone footage of a man on fire running out of the inferno, then he grabbed a fire extinguisher and began to put out the fire on himself.

Murphy muttered to himself in a low voice, "The Pyro-thief, hey, the Pyro-thief..."

Larry suddenly moved in front of the screen, and his voice became shrill again.

"What in the world is happening, no one can survive! No one can live through an explosion like that, no one!"

Thompson had completely lost his voice, he just stared at the screen, unable to utter a single word.

What was thought to be a killing move had been ineffective, the person they thought they had finally dealt with after paying a tremendous price, still remained unresolved.

Murphy roared, "What are you standing around for! Keep the attack planes firing, I refuse to believe he can still run!"

Thompson frantically bent down to retrieve his fallen headset, and at that moment, the drone operator had already spoken for him.

"Keep firing! Warthogs keep firing, the target is still there, I repeat, the target is still there!"

"Out of ammo, my shells are all spent..."

Just as he picked up the headset and heard the pilot’s words, Thompson suddenly felt as if all strength had left his body, his legs gave out, and he involuntarily sat down, forgetting that his chair had already hit the ground.

And so Thompson fell onto the ground, landing with a pain that hurt, a lot.

The Pyro-thief started running again, his speed even faster than before.

Silence, a deathly silence, no one knew what to do, and therefore, no one wanted to say anything.

Finally, Murphy was the first to jump to his feet and roar.

"Artillery! Notify the artillery to fire, fire now,"

Without first consulting Larry or Thompson, the drone unit commander habitually issued the command: "Artillery position, fire immediately, uh..."

The commander looked towards Murphy, then said with a puzzled face, "We don’t have coordinates, they haven’t aimed their barrels at the refinery..."

Murphy was taken aback for a moment, then he said softly, "Then it’s all over, completely over..."

Murphy knew he was finished too; if Larry and Thompson had taken out the Pyro-thief, they might mock him for a bit before sending him off to Djibouti to face the Elder Council’s judgment.

But now, that probably wasn’t going to happen.

Suddenly, Murphy said, "Larry, you know, you scream like a woman when you panic."

Larry had no response, so Murphy continued, "Thompson, I have no idea where you popped up from, I can’t say you’re dumb; you made no mistake, but you still ruined everything."

Thompson looked back at Murphy, and Murphy noticed the bloodshot in his eyes, in just such a short span of time.

Murphy coldly said, "Come on, push all the blame on me, then take everyone and quietly leave this place, I’m done for, you are done for, we’re all done for."

Thompson suddenly said, "No, I have found that the Pyro-thief’s value is higher than that of a refinery, higher than the value of Malakal, higher than the value of the entire Malakal Region, so I decided not to kill him."

After speaking, Thompson slowly looked back at the screen, and then he said in a cold voice, "So I’ve decided we have to capture the Pyro-thief, even if we can’t ensure he’s taken alive, we must have his body."

Larry thought for a moment, and then he let out a sigh of relief, "That’s right, a man whose speed and vitality are unimaginable, just send back a clip of the footage here... uh, and it will do, we aren’t unable to kill him, we just need to ensure his body is intact, right? Yes, that’s it, Thompson, your decision is very sound."

Murphy was silent for a moment, then he nodded and said softly, "That’s a good idea indeed, I have gained a new perspective on you two, allow me to express my admiration for your shamelessness."

Thompson indifferently said, "I suspect that Mr. Murphy and Ram have always had secret communications; after we had him under control, Ram somehow got the message, and in his attempt to rescue Mr. Murphy, we were forced to strike him down, wouldn’t you say that’s the case?"
