Chapter 511: Chapter 504: Envy, Jealousy, and Hate

"Gao Yuan really is, really is...sigh."

Li Jinfang let out a light sigh. As a martial arts master, Gao Yuan’s performance made him feel powerless.

"What are you sighing for?"

"You don’t understand, Gao Yuan’s physique, his techniques, are obviously still too green. He’s been instructed by a great teacher, but he hasn’t truly become a master yet. If it weren’t for his extraordinarily rebellious physical condition, I could have flattened him with one hand."

Rabbit looked at Li Jinfang sideways and said, "Jealous much? If someone has a good body, that’s what they rely on. Can’t accept it? If you can’t accept it, why don’t you mutate too?"

"Damn Rabbit, seriously, sometimes I really do want to kill you."

Rabbit continued to watch the footage from the drone, no longer goading Li Jinfang, and then he said matter-of-factly, "You have to admit, there will always be someone who pops up and is better than you in this world. Don’t worry about why they’re better; being better is just being better, and if you can’t beat them, you can’t beat them. Most of the time, this kind of thing has nothing to do with effort. Some people are just naturally gifted, and all the hard work in the world won’t help you."

"Is this about natural talent? Isn’t it more about luck? If not for... if I mutated, I would definitely be stronger than him."

"But you haven’t mutated, so just stop talking, okay? Stop nagging, it’s annoying. At least Gao Yuan’s only this strong because of mutation. What about Brother Yang then? If I compare myself to Brother Yang, shouldn’t I just give up on living?"

Li Jinfang said softly, "You don’t understand. It feels different when you’ve been unbeatable and then suddenly someone shows up who you can’t defeat. You’ve always been under Brother Yang’s shadow, you’re used to being defeated. I can’t handle it. Gao Yuan came out of nowhere, and I just... am filled with envy and resentment."

Rabbit thought for a moment, then surprisingly nodded and said, "You’re right. I’ve gotten used to being overshadowed by Brother Yang. Now I just need to accept my place. There are some people you just can’t compare yourself to, right? I’m used to that now. But you’re different. You used to struggle to find a rival, but now Gao Yuan has just emerged, and he’s beaten you at your own game – and in a way that leaves you without the courage to fight back. I get how that feels."

Li Jinfang fell silent for a moment before he murmured, "How come I have no courage to fight back? Why can’t I try? Do you think I’ve gone soft? Don’t make me laugh. Once this recon mission is over and we go back, I’ll have a good few rounds with Gao Yuan, see what he’s really made of."

Rabbit pointed at the screen and said to Li Jinfang, "Are you sure? Look at this guy. Are you really sure you want to have a go with him?"

On the screen, Gao Yuan held a sniper cannon in one hand as if it was just a wooden stick, and then with a swing of his knife, he cleaved a zombie in half, leapt several meters into the air, landed and executed another leaping slash, then without looking back, ran towards the direction with fewer zombies.

Li Jinfang continued to be silent, while Rabbit said helplessly, "Does this even look human to you? Although he has the appearance of a person, we both know he’s not human anymore."

Li Jinfang exhaled softly, then sighed, "Don’t say that, it’s not nice to say that."

Rabbit suddenly smacked his lips and said, "Do you think having the surname Gao just makes it easier to be a freak? Brother Yang is like that, and now Gao Yuan comes along, and he’s the same way. You can’t even stand it, this really is a generation of two extraordinary Gaos."

Li Jinfang whispered, "My brother is coming too, then we’ll also have a generation of two extraordinary Lis. Ah, oops, my mistake!"

Li Jinfang spoke as if he were deeply aggrieved, "If it were me, I would just..."

"If it had been you, you’d be dead."

Rabbit continued his merciless teasing of Li Jinfang, pointing at the dense swarm of zombies on the screen and saying, "With this speed, with this density, you would have been dead long ago if you went in."

Li Jinfang sighed again, then he whispered, "I definitely need to spar with him, hmm, let’s talk business now. The zombies are too fast. We’ve dealt with zombies before, but scattered zombies are nothing like these large-scale swarms."

Rabbit fell silent for a moment, then whispered, "Jinfang, as a sniper with a keen instinct, I want to say, the mode of combat is going to change. Cold weapons will make a return to the stage of warfare. You, and Peter, your era is coming again."

Li Jinfang responded with disdain, "Let me tell you as a martial arts expert with instinct, you’re right, and that’s something even a fool knows, no need for you to say it."

Rabbit sighed, then he finally said, "Why hasn’t the Armored Beast shown up yet? I just fired a shot and I want to see the effects."

Gao Yuan was also pondering this question; where could he find an Armored Beast.

Shaking off the zombies was a bit troublesome, but not impossible. Gao Yuan increased his speed and ran. The zombies couldn’t catch up, but Gao Yuan didn’t want to charge blindly. He had to avoid getting surrounded by a large group of monsters and zombies.

"Can the drone scout ahead for me and see where the Armored Beasts are?"

Gao Yuan spoke into the walkie-talkie, and upon hearing his request, Li Jinfang immediately ordered, "Big Bird, send the drone over to the city district and check for Armored Beasts. Harry, your drone continues to follow Gao Yuan."

Gao Yuan was now very close to Malakal City district, roughly two kilometers away, and although the drone wasn’t faster than him, it could fly in a straight line and head to Malakal City district first to take a look.

More and more zombies were gathering behind him, and Gao Yuan had to be cautious. Often, he had to carve out a path through the zombie hordes, but most of the time, he would slip directly through gaps between them.

While Gao Yuan was dodging zombies, Big Bird’s drone reached the city district’s airspace first and began searching back and forth. After flying for about fifteen minutes, Big Bird suddenly said, "Look there, is that an Armored Beast?"

The Armored Beast was clearly visible in the drone’s camera due to its enormous size, and the one spotted by Big Bird’s drone was actually a group of four together. However, the area where the Armored Beasts were located was very disadvantageous for Gao Yuan to approach.

The area was a factory district, which had many workers, but now, there were a few Armored Beasts and some scattered smaller monsters, but no zombies were in sight.

Li Jinfang frowned and said, "They’re definitely Armored Beasts, but how are we supposed to test fire? If Gao Yuan goes there, retreat will be troublesome."

Rabbit whispered, "He’s not stupid, tell him the situation and let him decide for himself."

Li Jinfang relayed over the walkie-talkie, "Nemesis, there are four Armored Beasts gathered in the city’s factory district, with some other monsters nearby, but no zombies. It’s pretty far to walk within the city district; I think it’s a bit risky."

Gao Yuan didn’t hesitate much; he immediately said, "Since they’ve been found, let’s give it a try. Point me in the right direction now. I’ll fire a shot from a distance and leave, then you use the drone to confirm the damage. I’m going to speed up now; the drone may not keep up, so be careful not to lose it."
