The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse
Chapter 510 - 503: Who Else but Me

Chapter 510: Chapter 503: Who Else but Me

Creating a knife was not a problem for Gao Yuan, and the Arilan Moson Studio possessed a fully automated CNC lathe, so making a Steel Mace was also no issue.

Gao Yuan valued his weapons greatly, as they were critical to his survival, but at Arilan Moson Studio, he didn’t need to worry about selecting steel materials.

Arilan Moson Studio had a vast quantity of bar stock, which were steel bars of various thicknesses intended for making gun barrels. Although these steel bars were not the best choice for crafting knife blades, they were more than adequate for making a bludgeoning weapon to meet Gao Yuan’s needs.

So, the knife was made by Gao Yuan himself, but as for the Steel Mace, no, it should now be called a steel whip.

The steel whip was entirely milled from a steel bar. The handle was milled to an oval shape to facilitate a comfortable grip.

Though it was called a steel whip, it was actually just an iron rod that tapered at the end and had a point; it was called a steel whip because it sounded better than iron rod.

As for the knife, Gao Yuan used wire EDM to cut out its shape from a steel plate, then ground the steel plate down, added a comfortable handle, and considered it complete.

Gao Yuan’s weapons became increasingly simplified and lightweight, because he realized that while collector’s weapons could be very exquisite, functional weapons meant for heavy and rough use did not need to be finely crafted, as that would be sheer waste.

Now, Gao Yuan still carried a knife and steel whip on his back, but in his hands was a 20mm caliber sniper cannon.

There was no bipod, and the cannon had a simple carrying handle made of carbon fiber and thick hemp rope. It was essentially a loop of hemp rope tied into a knot around the sniper cannon’s balance point, Gao Yuan’s own suggestion for carrying. If it had been according to Jack’s idea, he would have even considered welding a fixed handle onto it.

The cannon was so crude that it almost looked shabby, but the scope mounted on it was of the highest quality available.

Actually, Gao Yuan would have preferred mechanical sights, but creating a new gun, welding a Picatinny rail, and then mounting and adjusting a scope was much simpler than installing a mechanical sight that guaranteed precision.

Now, Gao Yuan held a wasteland-style sniper cannon, wore Shenzhou’s best night vision goggles, carried a knife and a steel whip on his back, and had compressed biscuits and energy bars in his bag.

Five rounds of discarding sabot armor-piercing bullets were carried in a pouch similar to a grenade carrier, which hung at Gao Yuan’s waist.

For this reconnaissance mission, Gao Yuan was not very tense, since the Serpent People’s ships were no longer in the sky, but the few people who had come with him were very nervous.

"Drone signal transmission check."

"Normal."

"Radio sound check."

"Normal."

"Night vision check."

"Normal."

Gao Yuan put down his night vision goggles and watched the others busying themselves, then he finally couldn’t help saying, "Are we done yet?"

Li Jinfang let out a breath and said, "This time, the primary objective is reconnaissance, and testing is secondary. If danger is detected, we must retreat immediately."

Li Jinfang was somewhat nervous because only Gao Yuan would enter the Malakal city district alone, and he could not follow. For Li Jinfang, this was an uncontrollable situation, and as an expert, any action he couldn’t control made him tense.

Two people were conducting the drone accompanying flights, one was Satan’s Big Bird, and the other was Harry Keen, who had accompanied Gao Yuan and the rest from Afghan all the way through the battles.

The two drones, while ensuring to provide Gao Yuan with a larger field of view, were also continuously recording his activities, serving as a double assurance.

In total, there were only five people carrying out this reconnaissance mission, and aside from the two drone pilots and Li Jinfang, there was only one Rabbit.

This team of merely five members could definitely be considered elite. However, back at the base, there were many people anxiously waiting.

This reconnaissance mission was very important, even affecting the future combat methods of the Solar System Company.

Gao Yuan shook his head and with his left hand, he grasped the thirty-something kilograms sniper cannon, and with his right hand, he drew the long sword from behind and swung it, saying, "Alright, this is convenient, I’m off."

Not wanting to listen to Li Jinfang’s and Rabbit’s nagging any longer, Gao Yuan slung his sniper cannon and charged out with his head down.

Malakal city district was a bit far, roughly ten kilometers away. After the destruction of Malakal by the aliens, the area had become infested with zombies. Gao Yuan was concerned that if they got any closer, Li Jinfang and the others might be in danger.

Actually, Li Jinfang’s concern for Gao Yuan was unnecessary; what Gao Yuan should have been concerned about was the safety of Li Jinfang and the others.

Gao Yuan was born for the apocalypse, his abilities allowed him to move with ease among the hordes of zombies. He was not one to boast in a fight with humans, but when it came to zombies, Gao Yuan could proudly shout, "Who else but me?"

Gao Yuan had been running forward for a distance, about three kilometers, when he noticed a dozen figures scattered across a grassland far from the road.

They appeared human-shaped, but that did not necessarily mean they were humans. A greater likelihood was that they were zombies that had lost their humanity.

However, Gao Yuan was somewhat puzzled as his experience told him zombies should not be appearing so far from the city.

Gao Yuan drew his sword; he needed to get a closer look at the zombies because he felt that their behavior was abnormal—they were wandering.

Zombies were supposed to stand quietly in one spot to conserve energy unless they detected food, which would cause them to suddenly burst into action. But this aimless wandering in circles was not characteristic of their habits.

As Gao Yuan approached one of the zombies, it seemed to hear the noise. A wandering zombie suddenly turned its head and ran straight towards Gao Yuan.

Without stopping, Gao Yuan drew his sword and passed by the zombie, slitting its neck with a smooth and neat action.

There was hardly any noise; he didn’t alert any more zombies, but Gao Yuan stopped. After a moment of thoughtful looking at the completely motionless zombie, he suddenly shouted, "Hey, over here!"

The dozen or so zombies, occupying an area of a few hundred square meters, responded to Gao Yuan’s shout without hesitation and immediately ran toward him.

Gao Yuan didn’t move; he continued to observe his surroundings, and then he understood why something felt off—because from the previously calm underbrush, suddenly at least a few hundred zombies stood up.

Gao Yuan didn’t retreat; instead, he charged toward the most densely packed area of zombies. Just then, he heard Li Jinfang’s voice urgently coming through the walkie-talkie, "What are you doing? There are so many, retreat, retreat now!"

Ignoring Li Jinfang’s instructions, Gao Yuan’s sword moved fluidly as he quickly carved a path through the sparse crowd of zombies, then he reached the spot where the zombies had been lingering.

There were many clean animal bones on the ground. In his haste, Gao Yuan couldn’t distinguish what animals they came from, but he knew why the zombies had appeared so far from the city.

"Record this, zombies will leave the city to chase animals nearing the urban areas, which is problematic as they will spread gradually following the animals."
