Chapter 481: Chapter 674: Dull

"It doesn’t seem that hard to deal with..."

Unable to hold back any longer, Gao Yang uttered these words since he felt that the so-called Armored Beast really couldn’t take a beating.

Xinghe looked at Gao Yang and then disdainfully said, "Not hard to deal with? You can give it a try."

Gao Yang smiled and said, "That’s not what I meant... it just seems too simple."

Xinghe withdrew her gaze from Gao Yang and continued to watch Gao Yuan, saying with satisfaction, "So cool, really so cool!"

By then, Gao Yuan had already stood up. He glanced upwards then took a running start and leaped onto the third floor window, grabbed the sill, and pushed off with his feet to land on the window frame he just left.

With a foothold secured, Gao Yuan pulled himself up with his left hand and gracefully jumped inside.

After sizing up Gao Yuan, Gao Yang sincerely exclaimed, "Really so cool..."

Gao Yuan exhaled softly, then whispered, "Lucky break, I thought it would take a long time to handle this."

Gao Yang swallowed hard, then looked at the Armored Beast lying flat on the ground and said, "The eyes are the weak point, right? Well, any animal with eyes definitely has a weak point there."

Xinghe looked proud, as if she was the one who had just killed the Armored Beast.

Gao Yuan then turned his attention to the city district recently attacked by the creature. The unusual roar of the Armored Beast had left him with an ominous premonition.

Soon enough, Gao Yuan’s premonition came true.

Two Armored Beasts deviated from their original route and suddenly turned around, running towards the tower.

Gao Yuan sighed lightly, propped his knife against the wall, took off his backpack and dropped it to the ground, and also discarded his grenade pouch.

"They’re getting in the way. I’m going to fight light, bulletproof vests are useless against these creatures."

After speaking, Gao Yuan helplessly added, "The guess has been confirmed, Armored Beasts can emit ultrasound or infrasound, I don’t know, anyway, we can’t hear it, but Armored Beasts can. That Armored Beast just now was calling its companions."

Gao Yang stared outside at the two Armored Beasts attacking from different directions and said fiercely, "We still have two Rocket Launchers!"

"Rockets aren’t very reliable. The 30mm Autocannon can penetrate the Armored Beast’s shell, but it’s not a guaranteed penetration, as for rockets and such, it depends on luck, and it’s not worth wasting ammo on a sniping grenade."

After saying that, Gao Yuan twirled his Steel Mace and declared, "Actually, I’m not very afraid of Armored Beasts, but I don’t know if I can handle two more. If I can take them out, you guys withdraw; if I can’t, I’ll withdraw."

Having said that, Gao Yuan gritted his teeth and once again leaped down.

Going upstairs and downstairs was no problem for Gao Yuan. Just now, he really hoped that this would be the end of the battle, but clearly, his hope had been dashed.

Gao Yuan landed and then charged straight at the approaching Armored Beast.

He was faster than the Armored Beast by a wide margin. Gao Yuan hoped to take the opportunity to eliminate one before the two beasts could rendezvous, as if both Armored Beasts attacked the tower at the same time, no one could stop them.

Charge after charge, Armored Beasts couldn’t possibly use any complex maneuvers, and neither could Gao Yuan.

The Armored Beast didn’t intend to slow down because the first time Gao Yuan dealt with an Armored Beast, he knew that the beast would prioritize high-threat targets, like someone shooting at it. But now, the beast he faced had no other targets to attack, yet for some reason, the Armored Beast also ignored Gao Yuan.

Since the eyes were a weak point, Gao Yuan naturally hoped to employ the same tactic. He leaped again, hoping to stab the Armored Beast in the eye, but the Armored Beast simply jerked its head to the side, avoiding Gao Yuan’s long knife.

The knife skimmed over the monster’s head without leaving a single mark.

Gao Yuan jumped over the monster’s head, landing on its back but quite towards the rear. He had intended to stand on the beast’s back, but its shell was too slippery, and his feet lost traction. He slid down the back of the beast like a child on a slide.

Gao Yuan hit the ground and turned around, chasing after the Armored Beast in a frenzy. As he ran alongside it, he transferred the knife to his left hand while drawing the Steel Mace with his right, smashing it down hard on the Armored Beast’s leg.

The great height difference made it very difficult for Gao Yuan to attack the Armored Beast’s head and eyes, which was precisely why he chose the Steel Mace as his weapon—to exploit the bludgeon’s attribute against creatures with a hardened shell.

This was the first time Gao Yuan was putting his idea to the test, and the Armored Beast’s legs seemed quite slender.

Just as the Armored Beast’s left foreleg touched the ground, its relatively pointed foot piercing into the soil, Gao Yuan swung the mace down with force.

Though the blow was not head-on, reducing the impact, Gao Yuan’s strength was immense, and his speed surpassed that of the Armored Beast, so the mace still hit with full force.

With a crisp ’pop’, the aftertone of Gao Yuan’s Steel Mace lingered, while his arm numbed, almost causing him to drop the mace.

However, the Armored Beast’s forelimb snapped in response.

It was broken, but not severed, much like a crab’s pincer cracked open but with the flesh within still intact.

The leg of the Armored Beast bent forward, and the unbalanced beast toppled to the front left, sliding a considerable distance on the ground.

The shell of the Armored Beast was too slippery; its slide led it to collide directly with the tower.

The whole building shook heavily.

Hardly any dust stirred, and as he followed the fallen Armored Beast down to the base of the tower, Gao Yuan approached from the creature’s back. Dodging its wildly kicking legs, he thrust his knife toward the Armored Beast’s eyes.

The eyes of the Armored Beast were only about the size of grapes, and its head kept shaking wildly. Gao Yuan’s stab went askew, while the Armored Beast struggled to flip over and stand up again.

Gao Yuan didn’t try for a second stab. Instead, he swung the Steel Mace up and hammered it down hard on the Armored Beast’s head.

His arm vibrated with numbness, as if he were striking iron rather than the head of a living creature, but Gao Yuan wouldn’t stop. He lifted the mace again, crashing it down with force.

One hit, two, three, four—the struggling Armored Beast finally slowed its attempts to fight back, but never completely ceased its struggle.

Gao Yuan believed that even if the exterior of the Armored Beast’s head appeared intact, the inside must surely be shattered to bits, and if he continued pounding, the beast would surely die.

It was at that moment, however, that Gao Yuan suddenly heard someone from above yell, "Watch out!"

Gao Yuan whirled around, only to see the third Armored Beast less than thirty meters away from him.

Raising the Steel Mace again, Gao Yuan prepared to charge at the Armored Beast, but as he lifted his right arm, he found it weak and powerless from the reverberating shock.

Just then, a crisp ’snap’ sounded from above, and Gao Yuan saw clearly a spark near the Armored Beast’s head, right beside its eye.

The shot enraged the Armored Beast, which suddenly looked up toward the top of the tower, where someone was aiming a gun at it, and fired another shot.

The incredulous Gao Yang finally shouted loud, "Fuck! It won’t penetrate!"
