The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse -
Chapter 475 - 468: Blocking the Door
Chapter 475: Chapter 468: Blocking the Door
Xinghe followed into the waiting room.
The waiting room at Malakal Airport was nothing more than a slightly larger house, incomparable to those in big city airports, but it was still the main building of the entire airport terminal, housing many rooms within. Satan had only occupied the largest waiting room.
However, being able to occupy the waiting room was enough for now; at least inside this relatively sturdy building, they didn’t have to worry about being hit by enemy machine guns or mortars for the time being.
"Secure the area, seal all the exits!"
Gao Yang first ordered the exits to be sealed, but he did not rush to order a search and clear-out of the entire building.
Gao Yang looked at Xinghe and whispered, "Can we see where that thing is now?"
No one knew what the equipment they were looking for looked like, nor where it was, not even its size. So it was better to have Xinghe risk using Revelation to pinpoint its location.
Xinghe was decisive; she immediately took out Revelation and spent nearly a minute to once again complete the positioning task.
"It’s not here, it’s over there!"
Xinghe pointed and then said urgently, "Very close, extremely close!"
Gao Yang looked in the direction Xinghe was pointing.
Having been to Malakal Airport numerous times, Gao Yang was very familiar with the place. Following Xinghe’s pointing, he immediately said, "It’s in the control tower!"
Any airport, regardless of size, must have a control tower for managing aircraft landings and takeoffs. Even if there’s only one radio, it serves as the tower’s function.
Gao Yang said urgently, "The tower is a separate building. It’s accessed through an internal airport office area, about eighty meters away, with many rooms; I don’t know exactly how many. At the end of the corridor is a door, and exiting it leads to the tower. There might be many enemies along the way. We should be cautious. Little Fly, if there’s a door open, throw a grenade, will that be enough?"
Fly glanced and replied quietly, "Should be enough."
"Make sure."
"As long as the doors aren’t completely open, it’s enough."
While they were talking, Gao Yang reloaded his pistol with a new magazine, reholstered it, and filled up a small pouch on his chest with shotgun shells from his pocket.
After finishing the preparations, Gao Yang took a breath and said in a low voice, "Leave two people to watch our backs, hmm, Tyrannosaurus, Hedgehog, cover our rear."
At that moment, Gao Yuan suddenly said, "Ol’ Gun is up to the task. He can watch our backs, let’s just ensure our assault force is strong."
Gao Yang looked at Ashraf, his gaze sweeping over Ashraf’s Mosin-Nagant, showing a hint of hesitation.
Gao Yuan whispered, "There are lights here, and with lights, Ol’ Gun will have no problems at all."
Gao Yang immediately said, "Alright, I trust you. Hedgehog, you and Ol’ Gun cover us from behind. Everyone else, move out."
Gao Yuan patted Ashraf, made a circle with his hand, and gestured for cover. Ashraf immediately nodded, raising his rifle.
Li Jinfang and Ailin led the way at the front, with Gao Yang a little behind them, since the corridor at the end of the hall was only about three meters wide, unable to accommodate too many people side by side.
The rest arranged themselves into two lines behind Li Jinfang and Ailin, sticking close to the walls as they walked. Hedgehog and Ashraf took positions at the end of each column, facing backward on guard, ready to fire at any moment.
Many doors in the corridor were shut, and no one knew whether there were people inside, who might suddenly shoot a volley of bullets or throw a couple of grenades.
Because they had to be particularly careful, the team moved somewhat slowly, not nearly as fast as they were outside.
After passing three doors without incident, something dark was suddenly hurled out of an open door about ten meters ahead.
It was a grenade, and the ten-meter distance was rather awkward – too far to run up and kick it away, yet close enough to be within the lethal range of the grenade.
Gao Yang fired his gun, the buckshot striking the grenade sliding on the ground, hitting it on one side and sending it flying back, rebounding against the door, activating the detonation trigger, and exploding.
An enemy hiding behind the door, who had planned to rush out spraying bullets after the grenade explosion, was instead blown out by his own grenade.
"Involuntary reflex."
Gao Yang suddenly blurted out for no apparent reason, then quickly added, "Lucky I’m using breaching rounds."
No one spoke; the team simply continued to advance in grim silence.
There were likely still enemies inside the rooms, but whether they were too afraid to come out or were some civilian personnel, no one dared to emerge from behind the doors, whether open or shut.
Fly would toss a grenade into every open door, which also slightly slowed the team’s progress.
A door that was originally open was suddenly shut, followed by a desperate shout from inside, "Don’t come in, don’t come in..."
No one made eye contact, no one spoke, and no one showed surprise. It was just one person breaking down, a scene all too common on the battlefield, not worth mentioning or wasting time on. Satan, in a rush, could afford to spare him.
Upon reaching the end of the corridor, Gao Yang gestured with his hand, and both teams hid in the rooms closest to the end of the corridor. Then, Li Jinfang and Fly stepped forward alone, while Gao Yang aimed his gun at the double doors at the end of the corridor.
The wooden doors appeared unlocked, but after signaling, Li Jinfang still stepped forward and kicked them violently. The door swung outward and in the instant the door opened, Fly immediately tossed a grenade through the gap, then the rebounding door snapped back, while Li Jinfang quickly leapt backward.
Gao Yuan was about to say that kicking was unnecessary, but then saw dozens of bullet holes suddenly appear on the door. The bullets that burst through the door ricocheted wildly inside the corridor.
Gao Yuan gasped, relieved that he was inside a room, because he wouldn’t have stood a chance against the ricochets otherwise.
Li Jinfang, who kicked the door, was injured. Limping back into the room with jumps and hops, blood oozed from his shoulder. Yet Li Jinfang acted as if nothing happened, not even sparing a glance, and the others also behaved as if nothing was wrong, not bothering to ask.
"This is troublesome; we’ve been blocked. Jump out the window!"
Gao Yang just said the words, but he glanced back at the room and frowned, "It’s too far around, let’s breach the wall. Skunk, blow us two holes, no need for them to be big. Catch the enemy off guard and then break through the entrance."
Skunk put away his rifle, grabbed his pack, and took out a block of C4. Tearing it apart with both hands, he then began to knead two chunks of C4 like dough.
He started slapping sticks of C4 onto the wall, inserted two detonators, then hurried into the opposite room. Soon after, he whispered, "Safe distance: one meter to the sides, five meters in front."
Gao Yang immediately commanded, "Maintain safe distance, assault team prepare, three seconds to detonation."
"Three-second countdown, 3, 2, 1, detonate!"
Two blast points, one sound, and after a roaring boom, dust filled the room, but on the wall, there appeared a standard-sized rectangular hole, twenty centimeters high and thirty centimeters across.
Gao Yang thrust his gun through the hole and started firing. After a brief moment, he suddenly yelled, "Charge!"
