The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse
Chapter 455 - 448: The Right Hand of God

Chapter 455: Chapter 448: The Right Hand of God

The command headquarters and the hospital were together, of course not especially close, but it was just a few minutes’ drive away.

The command headquarters was also a cluster of tents, much smaller in scale than the field hospital, but the defensive power was stronger.

"Can Opener, take a break. Scarecrow, head straight to the staff office. The war situation is tense, so I won’t stand on ceremony with you all," said Gao Yang, hurrying through his words before turning to Gao Yuan, "We’re not going to the staff office. In name, I’m the Supreme Commander, but that title is nominal. Small scale special operations are under my command; the regular war rules are handled by the staff office. Come this way, everyone here is one of us; anything can be said."

Secret conversations had to remain secret, so Gao Yuan and Xinghe followed Gao Yang into a tent. On entering, however, Gao Yang looked back at Lizhizi and said, "Is the... Taoist Priest not coming?"

Gao Yuan looked back at Lizhizi. With the field hospital well-staffed, they didn’t need Lizhizi, so he had come along. But Lizhizi knew that Gao Yuan and the others had important matters to discuss and hadn’t planned on following them into the tent.

Gao Yuan said, "Taoist Priest, come join us."

Only then did Lizhizi follow.

As they entered the tent, what met their eyes was a long table that was not quite level, seemingly made by piecing several long tables together.

The key thing was that the table was laden with a large basin of meat, a basin of vegetables, as well as a frame of bread and steamed buns, and a bowl of rice.

A boastful smile played across Gao Yang’s face as he pointed at the dishes on the table and said, "Hey, hey, I’ve got sixty Shenzhou cooks here, and I’ve even imported twenty field kitchens. I originally bought a hundred, but it’s a pity the remaining eighty couldn’t be delivered. What a shame, a real shame."

"A hundred field kitchens? What do you need so many for?"

"To have on hand, to stockpile, for peace of mind."

Gao Yang sat down and said, "Let’s talk while we eat. We’re starving. Let’s eat and talk at the same time."

The people sitting at the table were a motley crew. Gao Yuan watched as the machine gunner took off a black metal hand from his left arm and replaced it with a shiny prosthetic, then he started to eat.

Noticing Gao Yuan’s curious gaze, Gao Yang laughed and said, "Let me formally introduce him. This is Grolyov, code name Big Dog, Satan’s Deputy Head. My brother—well, no, my father-in-law."

Grolyov smiled at Gao Yuan, then with his prosthetic hand, he grabbed a piece of bread, pulled a bowl of borscht towards himself, and after picking up a spoon, said to Gao Yuan, "Hello."

Gao Yuan gestured towards the bald woman beside him and said, "This is Ailin, one of my... cough, wives. Big Dog isn’t her father, cough cough. Going into battle, she insisted on shaving her head, and wouldn’t be persuaded otherwise. Really, there’s no helping it."

Gao Yuan was internally astonished and full of admiration for Gao Yang.

Ailin slid two fingers across her forehead and said to Gao Yuan, "Start eating soon."

Gao Yuan nodded subconsciously, then Gao Yang pointed to a Shenzhou person wearing glasses and said, "Rabbit, sniper. The one next to him is Crow, his wife, also a sniper."

Gao Yuan noticed that the Satan Mercenary Corps had a large number of people with disabilities, as at that moment, a person with a prosthetic leg entered the tent, sat directly next to the table, and started gnawing on a loaf of dark bread.

"This is Turtle, an assault man. Peter, how’s it going?"

Peter, without looking up, said, "Can handle it, no problem."

Gao Yang laughed, "He’s helping Rebrov manage the artillery corps. Um, Rebrov’s not here; he’s called Wild Duck."

"There are over a dozen members of Satan, it’ll take some time to introduce them all," Gao Yang said again to Gao Yuan, "Come on, eat, eat and talk. We don’t have many rules here. This place is nominally the Supreme Command, but in reality... damn, it’s just a canteen."

Gao Yuan smiled politely, but he still didn’t pick up anything to eat, while Xinghe unceremoniously piled her plate high with chunks of meat and then she picked up a bun and said, "We’ll eat first; once he starts, there’ll be nothing left for us."

Gao Yang was stunned for a moment, he looked at the table filled with two big bowls of dishes and a variety of staples, then he cautiously said, "Not enough?"

Gao Yuan replied in a shy whisper, "Not much..."

Gao Yang took a sharp breath and quickly said, "Ol’Mouse, hurry and finish eating, then go make some more. Oh, this is Ol’Mouse, Liang Dong, our chef. You start eating, if it’s not enough, we’ll just make more, definitely enough to fill you up."

Gao Yuan was still hungry, but if he let himself go, there really wouldn’t be enough. He had thought about holding out a while longer, waiting for Satan’s people to finish, but that wasn’t likely possible. To have him eat leftovers; that was no way to treat a guest.

So Gao Yuan picked up a bun, and while he was doing that, he suddenly froze, staring blankly at a young man sitting across from him, and then he exclaimed in a trance, "The Right Hand of God!"

The young man smiled at Gao Yuan and said, "Hi, I’m Fly."

Gao Yuan, whose understanding of simple English was decent, immediately stood up, abandoning the bun, and he looked at Fly exclaiming, "You, you, you—how could you, you! You’re with Satan? My god!"

Fly, a legend in baseball, a living baseball deity, led the Texas Rangers to a championship in his rookie season, then transferred to the New York Yankees and won championships there too. He had never finished a professional baseball season as anything but a champion.

Fly was a superstar, a super, super superstar.

Gao Yuan didn’t play baseball or follow baseball news, but he still knew of Fly, very well in fact, because Fly’s phenomenal god-level fame was so great it was hard not to know him. His news transcended sports categories, for winning championships with Fly at the helm was no surprise at all.

Moreover, Fly was still young. He reached others’ peaks at his debut but continued to climb higher.

Then, right before the apocalypse, Fly suddenly vanished. He disappeared mid-game, traceless, and Fly’s disappearance became a super big news story that the whole world tracked for a month. Because America’s superstar had vanished, Gao Yuan got sick of seeing the news about it at the time.

But now, in this godforsaken place, in Satan’s makeshift command center and canteen, Fly was sitting right across from Gao Yuan.

Gao Yuan was dumbfounded. He was completely dumbfounded.

Fly smiled and then said resignedly, "So, do you want an autograph?"

Gao Yuan took a deep breath, then let it out heavily, and after that, he shook his head and said, "This world is too crazy, just too crazy..."

Gao Yang scratched his ear, making a face of helpless resignation and said, "It’s good you recognize him. Fly, yeah, nickname Little Fly, our bomber. This kid, couldn’t keep him away if you tried."

Gao Yuan foolishly said, "Baseball, pitchers, bombers, pitchers... I finally understand why you suddenly disappeared!"
