The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse
Chapter 346 - 339: Walking Sideways

Chapter 346: Chapter 339: Walking Sideways

The Middle East is a powder keg; the political situations and entangled hostilities of its countries could fill a voluminous book, the sort that runs into millions of words without any padding.

Hence, in the Middle Eastern landscape, no one dares to claim they can gain a foothold in every country; if you’re on good terms with Israel, then things with Israel might not be so straightforward, and the allies of Israel will definitely face setbacks on Israel’s turf.

What does having enemies on all sides mean? Israel and its neighboring countries are a prime example; what is complexity? The Middle East provides the best explanation.

Gao Yuan felt that once they arrived on Israel’s side, if he took the initiative, and then let Andrew take over after passing Israel, they should be able to traverse the intricate complexities of the Middle Eastern borders safely.

However, it turned out that there was no need for Gao Yuan representing Shenzhou or for Andrew representing America to step in; Renato alone took care of everything, and it was the sort of thing he could handle in just a few sentences.

But that was too simple—it was as if the Middle East was Renato’s own backyard.

Who did Renato represent? The Ram, right? Didn’t that mean that the Ram could now stroll through Middle Eastern territories with impunity?

What a joke, not even America could pull that off. Even if he were the leader of Satan Mercenary Corps and the owner of Solar System Company, he shouldn’t have that much clout, right?

Yet the reality was, Renato led Gao Yuan and the others through the barbed wire and along a passage specifically opened for them, bypassing the defensive line that Israel had established on the Golan Heights.

Once past the defensive line, it was no longer appropriate to stay in the vehicles, so the entire group, including Gao Yuan, got out. Li Yang, holding their identification documents, communicated briefly with a junior lieutenant squad leader at the Israeli border outpost to confirm that Renato had not lied. Even the four Russians, who could not produce any national ID documents, were tolerated by the Israeli soldiers after a brief explanation from Renato—despite just coming from Israel.

This was truly, quite incredible.

Moreover, it seemed that Renato was not acquainted with these Israeli soldiers at the border outpost. The outpost commander agreed to let them pass because, after contact with the higher command, he received clear orders to do so, which meant that Renato was not bluffing.

Curiosity, incomprehension, bewilderment, and complete disbelief.

Gao Yuan really wanted to meet this Ram to see who he was and how it was possible for him to have such great influence in the Middle East.

Andrew’s convoy was still some distance away and would take a while to arrive, and at this moment, Gao Yuan finally got to regroup with the Russians once again.

The Russians and the NATO soldiers clearly didn’t get along, but when it came to Panxin and the other Shenzhou soldiers, there seemed to be a considerable sense of class brotherhood. They naturally gathered together.

None of the four Russians wore any military ranks, but from their manners and demeanor, it was still possible to distinguish who had the highest rank among them.

Panxin approached a middle-aged man with a beard, saluted him first, and then said in English, "Hello, my name is Panxin, it’s a pleasure to meet you."

The bearded man nodded, smiled, and responded, "Hello, my name is Yuri Zayakov, I’m also very pleased to meet you. When did you depart from Shenzhou?"

There was initially no chance for small talk, but Renato presumably had already explained to them during the ride how they ended up mixing with the Americans, so that part could be skipped. However, the events before arriving in Afghan—that needed to be discussed in detail.

Survivors of the apocalypse certainly yearned to know the situations beyond their confines, but those who were stranded in a foreign land surely had an even greater desire to learn how their own countries fared.

Thus, Yuri immediately added, "Do you know how Russia is faring now? Does anyone know?"

Panxin nodded and said, "We set out at the start of spring and have been traveling for over four months to get here. Regarding Russia, from what I know, Russia is still doing quite well, seemingly better than other countries. Europe has suffered more damage, but relatively speaking, it’s still not too bad—your government still exists."

Yuri let out a sigh of relief. He simply nodded and said, "Taking over four months to get here, it seems the journey was quite difficult."

"It was difficult. What about you? Are there many who stayed behind in Israel?"

Panxin asked a rather sensitive question, but Yuri replied without any hesitation, "Most have returned to our country. We received orders to return home. I guess many countries had advanced knowledge of the aliens’ arrival. It must be the case. Our transport planes kept bringing food and various supplies here, and then when they returned, they took people back. The majority have been evacuated, but as for us four, the aliens arrived just when we were about to board the plane."

Spreading his hands, Yuri continued with a look of helplessness, "So, we got trapped in Israel and couldn’t return."

After finishing, Yuri glanced at Gao Yuan and the other Shenzhou people, then asked, "Which unit are you from?"

Panxin smiled and answered, "We’re a small team assembled from various personnel. He is our captain, but unfortunately, he doesn’t speak Russian or English."

Seeing Panxin gesturing towards himself, Gao Yuan smiled and nodded at the two men.

Yuri looked surprised and said, "He doesn’t speak any foreign languages? He seems... well, he must have some special qualities."

Panxin continued to smile, "Yes, he is the only one who can be our captain."

Yuri pulled at his beard and then became very serious. "What exactly are you here to do? Can you tell me? I need a clear objective. Honestly, it doesn’t matter if I live or die, as long as I can fight the aliens, that’s fine."

Panxin lowered his voice and responded, "We’re heading to Africa. We have a very important person with us. If we succeed, there’s hope of defeating the aliens, real hope. But I can’t tell you now, just wait a bit longer, you’ll know soon."

Yuri frowned, but after pondering for a moment, he still nodded and said, "Okay, I can wait a bit longer. Also, I want to tell you that all four of us are from the Signal Flag Corps. I am a major, and we have rich combat experience. We are very eager to fight the aliens alongside you. We should cooperate, sincerely."

Panxin nodded, and as he was about to speak, he saw an off-road vehicle approaching at high speed. Once the vehicle stopped, a middle-aged man dressed in camouflage but with the rank of a general got out and began talking directly with Renato, who was waiting there.

Panxin whispered, "A general has arrived."

Yuri focused his gaze for a moment, then said in a low voice, "That must be General Yaral Bennett. He is in charge of the defense of the Golan Heights. Why would he come here in person? Oh, I understand now. Renato is recruiting for the Ram here, and they have known each other for a long time, so General Bennett came personally to verify Renato’s identity."

Unable to help himself, Panxin said, "How influential is the Ram here, really?"

Yuri shrugged and replied, "Uh, I only know there are many Jews in the Solar System Company, and of course, many Russians too. I have even thought about joining the Solar System Company after retiring. They offer really tempting benefits. Also, I know the Ram has very good private relationships with many high-ranking officials in Israel, but why that is the case is, of course, beyond me."
