Chapter 296: Chapter 289: Keep Making It Up for Me

Cahill pushed open a door and then shouted to the people behind him, "Come in, come in quickly, everyone come in, hurry, hurry!"

Li Yang was the first to walk in, and he even brought his sniper rifle with him.

Here, no one, not a single person demanded that Spark Squad turn in their weapons.

The office was large but simply furnished, with a huge desk behind which hung a NATO flag, and in front of the NATO flag was a very large office desk.

On the desk stood a bottle of whiskey, with a glass next to it, and beside that, a large glass ashtray. Next to the ashtray lay a cigar encased in a leather pouch, with cigar scissors next to it, and beside those, a spray-lighter.

Half of the whiskey in the bottle was gone.

The man sitting behind the desk was somewhat fat, which was normal for a middle-aged American. His complexion was ruddy, and he was wearing baggy desert camouflage. He looked to be in his forties or fifties and lifted his head to gaze at Li Yang with somewhat blurred eyes.

As Cahill entered the office, he immediately clasped his head with both hands, then his mouth produced a hissing sound, like that of a venomous snake, before he finally exploded with an intense shout, "Damn it, how much did you drink!"

The man sitting behind the desk brushed his hair back from his forehead nonchalantly, followed by a burp that released an unpleasant smell. Even from four or five meters away, Gao Yuan couldn’t help but want to pinch his nose.

"Split it, fifty-fifty!"

After saying that, the pudgy man picked up the bottle from the table and put it to his mouth, taking a big gulp directly, then he looked at the bottle.

Puffing up his cheeks, he glanced at the whiskey bottle in his hand. Before Cahill could run over to stop him, he placed the bottle to his mouth again, and then opened his mouth to spit some of the whiskey back into it.

"Now it’s exactly half..."

Cahill looked like he was about to go mad as he roared, "You should use a glass! And you just drink straight from the bottle? Then you spit the whiskey back in, fuck! Fuck! You crude bumpkin!"

The officer tilted his head back, swallowing the whiskey he had in his mouth, then he pushed the bottle forward on the table, along with the glass, and smiled smugly, "Here’s your drink, and I even prepared a glass for you, uh..."

Cahill grabbed the half-full bottle of whiskey, looking as if he were about to cry, but after hesitating a long time, he finally grasped the bottle in his hand instead of smashing it on the fat man’s head.

"Let me introduce myself, my name is Andrew Marshall, Colonel, and right now, in this Hell, I’m the highest-ranking military officer, so I’m the acting commander here, uh..."

After another belch, Andrew struggled to stand up, but promptly sat back down in the chair, waving his right hand and saying, "Shenzhou people, don’t speak, don’t say anything. Don’t say anything until I ask you to."

Colonel Andrew picked up the cigar from the desk, opened the leather pouch, took out the cigar, first sniffing it below his nose, then picked up the spray-lighter beside it.

"Life needs ritual, the military needs ritual, the apocalypse needs ritual, uh, this is a genuine quality cigar. I wouldn’t say it’s sanctioned Cuban goods, always stored in a humidifier box. In honor of your arrival, I’ve decided to enjoy it ahead of time."

He turned the cigar in his left hand while lighting it with the lighter in his right hand. After the cigar was lit, Colonel Andrew took the cigar scissors, cut the cap off the cigar, and put it in his mouth.

Amidst the swirling smoke, Colonel Andrew slowly exhaled a puff of smoke, then he closed his eyes.

"Alright, now tell me, what has the outside world become?"

Li Yang said calmly, "Not good."

"How bad is it? Since you’ve come here, that means some people are still alive, but I want to know how bad it is, tell me the truth."

Andrew took another puff of his cigar and then, fixing his gaze on Li Yang, said, "Start with how bad it is."

"Very bad, but not the worst yet. Aliens have occupied the major parts of this planet; there are huge alien spacecraft hovering over both America and Shenzhou. The vast majority of people have turned into zombies..."

Waving his hand, Andrew said, "Damn it, you’ve indeed brought bad news."

Andrew’s gaze shifted back to the whiskey in Cahill’s hand; Cahill immediately hid the bottle behind his back, prompting Andrew to say sternly, "Pour me a glass, and I’ll split half a cigar with you!"

Cahill thought about it and then said seriously, "I’ll take a puff first."

"Deal."

Thereupon, Cahill poured a glass of whiskey and took the cigar from Andrew’s hand, immediately taking a satisfying puff.

"Taking a puff of a fine cigar at the moment of sentencing... that’s the best way to end hope."

After speaking, Cahill grabbed the bottle and took a big gulp of the whiskey tainted with Andrew’s saliva.

Li Yang spread his hands and said, "The situation outside is very bad now, but don’t you want to know why we’re here?"

Andrew, bleary-eyed, looked at Li Yang and said, "Right, why? I guess it’s to seek refuge in this damned place because it’s indeed backward and desolate enough, just like Mars. The aliens won’t like it here, right?"

After saying this, Andrew suddenly reached out and, from under the table, pulled out a handgun and then slapped it onto the table.

"You’ve got to make up some good news for me, or I’ll shoot you!"

After a thunderous shout, Andrew picked up his glass and drowned half of it in one gulp.

Li Yang whispered, "We’ve brought documents. According to the agreement of the Blue Star Alliance, you have an obligation to provide us with the necessary support because... we’ve found a way to counter the Aliens."

Andrew, who had already drunk half of his whiskey, was about to pour the other half into his mouth when his hand froze midair. Cahill, however, turned to look at Li Yang and then placed the bottle on the desk and said, "What did you say?"

Li Yang took a serious and solemn step to the side, pointing at Gao Yuan, he said, "This is our captain. He should be the one to explain the specifics."

Some things must be kept secret, but some secrets must be disclosed because to fight the Serpent People, everyone’s strength is indeed needed. This was a fundamental principle Gao Yuan and his team had set before they set out.

Gao Yuan took a step forward and then formally opened a black leather briefcase, taking out a document and announcing loudly, "Your countries are members of the Blue Star Alliance and signatories of the plan to resist the Aliens. Now, please carefully read this document, which contains a detailed introduction to our mission. After reading it, please provide us with whatever help you can. Thank you."
