Chapter 255: Chapter 250 Tactical Interleaving

"Follow me!"

Cao Zhenjiang waved his hand forward, and then he immediately said very seriously, "We need to fight for time, but can’t be too rigid, we must disrupt the enemy."

Yu Shunzhou was somewhat surprised.

"Just the three of us?"

Cao Zhenjiang waved his hand and said, "Follow me, remember, we need to be flexible in combat, we need to play it by ear. The three of us also need to fight with the momentum of an army thousands strong!"

Nie Erlong didn’t utter a word, just followed Cao Zhenjiang running forward, while Yu Shunzhou panted, "You’re dreaming, the three of us will restrain the enemy from the flank, grab some time for them, and then retreat if the situation turns sour."

The mountain slope was steep, with a deep ditch on the right. The gradient wasn’t too harsh, but a fall would certainly be fatal.

Cao Zhenjiang and his team walked along the ditch, unable to move very quickly. Mainly because the distance was a bit long; five hundred meters on flat ground felt like nothing, but at this high altitude, an early charge would leave them exhausted before they reached their objective.

After swiftly covering about three hundred meters, they were only about two hundred meters away from the enemy’s camp, and until now, no one had noticed them sneaking up the steep slope beneath the road.

The enemy’s figures were already clearly visible, and several soldiers who were hurriedly setting up a cannon in the camp could be seen quite clearly. When the first round was fired and landed behind Cao Zhenjiang and his team, he shouted loudly, "We must take out their mortar!"

Setting up the machine gun, Cao Zhenjiang took aim and then bellowed, "Fire!"

One machine gun and two Type 81 rifles opened fire simultaneously. The firepower wasn’t particularly dense, but in an instant, an entire gun crew two hundred meters away was felled to the ground.

"Charge!"

Yu Shunzhou yelled as he started running forward, and once Yu Shunzhou charged, Nie Erlong reflexively followed suit.

"Ah... damn rookies!"

Cao Zhenjiang cursed bitterly, then quickly packed up the machine gun and ran after the two men.

The field of vision was filled with tents, and many people could be seen running between them, but to quickly resolve the battle, they needed to close the distance.

But the problem was, Cao Zhenjiang had only intended to tie down the enemy, not to annihilate them completely.

Eight men against eight hundred – what were they thinking?

Four or five people ran between two tents, then quickly came back. As the first soldier began to shout in panic, five men aimed their rifles at Yu Shunzhou and his team and opened fire.

Yu Shunzhou didn’t go to ground; he just stood still, bent at the waist, and after firing two short bursts, the five men opposite them were all struck down.

Nie Erlong stowed his rifle and said, "Keep charging!"

Apart from defending the nation, Yu Shunzhou and Nie Erlong feared nothing.

Meanwhile, someone finally noticed the battle on this side and a soldier screamed at the top of his lungs.

"Shenzhou People! The Shenzhou People are attacking!"

Too bad Yu Shunzhou and his team didn’t understand, they just kept on running after stowing their rifles.

Several enemies suddenly appeared in the gaps between the tents; Yu Shunzhou and Nie Erlong both abruptly dropped to the ground, taking cover behind large rocks.

"Cover me!"

Yu Shunzhou and Nie Erlong said in unison to each other, and then they both shouted at the same time, "Grenade!"

They both quickly pulled the pins on their grenades, throwing them forward, then simultaneously plucked smoke grenades and tossed them lightly in front of themselves.

The white smoke rose quickly, soon concealing Yu Shunzhou and Nie Erlong. By this time, Cao Zhenjiang had finally caught up, angrily saying, "You two idiots!"

With their vision blocked by the white smoke, Cao Zhenjiang lowered his voice and said, "Let’s charge out together, open fire on sight. If we hesitate any longer, we’ll end up trapped, up!"

"Like you could!"

Yu Shunzhou retorted to Cao Zhenjiang, then whispered, "If it weren’t for your chitchat, we’d already be attacking!"

"Go!"

Nie Erlong whispered, and then the three men left their cover and charged into the smoke.

The standard infantry assault procedure of charging, going prone, sweeping fire, and throwing grenades followed. After Cao Zhenjiang reloaded his magazine, he shouted again, "Covering fire! Move!"

Yu Shunzhou and Nie Erlong stuck their rifles out, firing wildly. Sometimes suppression fire was necessary; it could at least distract the enemy and cause some intimidation.

But continuous blind firing was foolish, so after a few bursts, they immediately popped their heads up and aimed two long bursts directly at the enemy.

While Yu Shunzhou and Nie Erlong laid down cover fire, Cao Zhenjiang had already charged forward with the machine gun.

It was only a short twenty or thirty meters, a combination of covering fire and alternating charges was enough, but the enemy’s resistance was far weaker than Cao Zhenjiang had anticipated.

More than a dozen bodies lay on the ground as Yu Shunzhou and Nie Erlong stood up and followed closely behind Cao Zhenjiang, rushing past him on either side.

The enemy camp was full of tents, and as they stormed into the tented area, Yu Shunzhou realized how densely packed the tents were, with at most two meters of space between each, and they were set up quite haphazardly.

No wonder the enemy’s reaction was so slow, they were easily overwhelmed by Yu Shunzhou and his companions because they couldn’t see anyone at all.

Cao Zhenjiang and the other two stood on the edge of the camp, and if they were to stick to the original plan of just containing the enemy, they should have been retreating by now.

But having come this far, to retreat now just didn’t seem right.

Cao Zhenjiang took a deep breath and said, "Something’s not right here."

Yu Shunzhou said urgently, "Split up, pursue them! Kill them!"

Yu Shunzhou ran into the tent ahead, while Cao Zhenjiang said anxiously, "Hey, Er Long, follow me!"

Once again, the three of them split their forces and attacked two ways into the enemy’s camp.

Yu Shunzhou zigzagged between the tents without encountering anyone, then suddenly saw the light as he passed one tent.

In a clearing between the tents, no larger than a hundred square meters, stood forty to fifty people.

An officer was speaking hurriedly when Yu Shunzhou suddenly appeared right in front of these forty to fifty people.

Yu Shunzhou didn’t even have time to be afraid. He aimed at the forehead of the officer in front of him, using only one bullet to blow away the enemy’s head, then swept his gun in front of the crowd.

A full magazine had only thirty bullets, but with forty to fifty people in front of him, even if he could kill one person with each bullet, he couldn’t eliminate everyone.

"Surrender and you won’t be killed!"

In a moment of inspiration, Yu Shunzhou shouted instead of continuing to shoot, holding his gun up and taking a step forward, he yelled again, "Drop your guns, surrender and you won’t be killed!"

Yu Shunzhou was pleased and shouted once more, "Drop your guns, surrender and you won’t be killed!"

The first soldier was indeed scared, but when the others saw someone dropping their weapon, rifles were dropped one after the other.

This worked?

Yu Shunzhou took a breath, but he had to leave, he had to keep fighting, he couldn’t just stay here to guard these prisoners.

Yu Shunzhou had come for a tactical penetration, not to guard prisoners.

After glancing into a larger tent, he yelled, "Get in, all of you get in!"

They might not understand the words, but they understood the actions, as Yu Shunzhou gestured with his gun towards the tent; the remaining able-bodied soldiers obediently walked into the tent.

Yu Shunzhou turned and walked away.

Since they had dropped their weapons, they wouldn’t dare to pick them up again; and even if they dared, Yu Shunzhou couldn’t afford to deal with the abandoned rifles before resuming the fight.

So Yu Shunzhou simply left, and those soldiers left without supervision obediently hid in the tents, not daring to come out.

Meanwhile, Cao Zhenjiang and Nie Erlong, as they pushed through the gaps between the tents, accidentally came face to face with a group of men.

A soldier with a large beard was carrying a mortar tube, and behind him, another soldier was carrying a baseplate. When Nie Erlong suddenly emerged, both sides were caught off guard.

Nie Erlong started firing as soon as he squeezed the trigger. He emptied his magazine, then immediately ducked to the side, while Cao Zhenjiang, who was blocked behind him, raised his machine gun and started firing.

One drum was nearly emptied, and the twenty or so soldiers who had bumped into Cao Zhenjiang and his companion were all lying on the ground.

Cao Zhenjiang broke out in a cold sweat, took a deep breath, and murmured, "Can it really be this easy? Slaughtering pigs isn’t even this simple..."

Nie Erlong, having reloaded, stood up and ran forward, stepping through the empty spaces among the bodies and wounded.

"Come back! You’re going the wrong way! Hey, damn new recruit! This way!"

Nie Erlong turned around and ran back, with Cao Zhenjiang angrily saying, "Follow me! Don’t run off!"

The two headed towards the direction where the soldiers with the mortar had gone, and then they heard intense gunfire. Cao Zhenjiang immediately sped up, and as he looked outside, he saw about twenty people firing at a cluster of tents.

A soldier in three-color desert camouflage saw Cao Zhenjiang, and as Cao Zhenjiang fired, the soldier fired too, and they were both hit.

Cao Zhenjiang used up his remaining dozen bullets, then quickly retreated while Nie Erlong threw two grenades ahead of him and followed with a burst from his rifle.

Cao Zhenjiang discarded the empty drum on the ground and, while loading a new drum, shouted, "Dumbfounded, aren’t you? I’ve got a bulletproof vest!"
