Chapter 86: NEO TERRA
Chapter 86: NEO TERRA
Chen Yu stood at the edge of his balcony, the wind brushing against his coat as he gazed at the horizon. It was the very place where the barrier once shimmered—an ancient divide that had confined humans, demons, and spirit beasts to their own fragmented worlds.
Now, it was gone.
All that remained was an endless stretch of sky. The clouds were foreign, tinged with unfamiliar hues. Azure from Earth, violet from the Spirit Realm, crimson streaks from the Demon World—all blending in one chaotic canvas.
The air smelled different. Sharper. Wilder. Alive.
Behind him, muffled voices filled the mansion. His allies were preparing—talking about Ling Ling’s arrival, debating who else was worthy to ascend, and organizing new training regimens.
They spoke with purpose.
But Chen Yu... wasn’t listening.
His eyes remained locked on the horizon, unmoving.
Three worlds had become one.
Three fates now collided under a single sky.
He could sense it. The tension. The silence before a storm no one else could see.
"So this is the new world..." he thought. "Not Earth. Not the Demon Realm. Not the Spirit Domain. Just... everything."
A new planet born from war, blood, and desperation.
A world with no name.
"A mess," he muttered under his breath, his voice almost swallowed by the breeze. "But maybe it’s the kind of mess I was born for."
A faint hum echoed in the air as he raised his hand and summoned his system interface. The translucent screen glowed softly before him, and for a moment, he simply stared at the data.
[STATUS SCREEN – CHEN YU]
Name: Chen Yu
Title: ???
Rank: SRR
Class: Chaos (Suppressed)
Contracts:
– HUI (Demon King)
– VORNARK (Beast King)
– Reth of End of All Beings
– Reth of Void
– Reth of Peace Among All Beings
Five names. Five connections. Each representing a different weight. A responsibility. A bond forged not by destiny, but by choice.
He clenched his fist slowly.
There were still too many unknowns. Who was Rand, really? Why were the Reths so interested in him? What did the upper realm truly hold? And who—above all—was the figure manipulating things from the shadows?
And despite all that, he’d made up his mind.
"No more chaos unless I cause it. No more walls unless I break them. And no more enemies unless they choose to be."
The wind shifted again, and with it came a new feeling—one he hadn’t felt in a long time.
Hope?
No. Something colder. Sharper.
Determination.
He turned away from the balcony and walked back inside.
The time to talk was almost over.
Soon... it would be time to act.
After closing his status screen, Chen Yu walked back into the mansion. The chatter of his allies filled the corridors—discussions about training, teleportation routes, preparations for the upper realm—but Chen barely registered any of it.
Instead, he headed for the living room.
He picked up the remote and turned on the massive digital screen mounted on the wall.
News channels flooded every inch of it.
"Breaking News: The sky above India, China, Europe, and even remote African regions is now showing signs of celestial distortion..."
"Reports coming in from major cities like Mumbai, Seoul, and Kyoto confirm that the lands across continents are morphing. Forests appearing where cities once stood. Unknown species being spotted—some friendly, some simply confused..."
"Scientists are baffled, governments are silent. But one thing is certain—this is no longer Earth."
The anchor looked directly into the camera.
"In just 24 hours, the sky has changed. New stars have appeared. Moons have shifted. A few witnesses claim to have seen creatures with horns, wings, or glowing skin. Is this a multi-world fusion? Some sort of alien invasion? We don’t know."
The channel cut to a shaky cellphone recording. A young man screamed in fear as a large tiger-like creature with glowing fur wandered a city street. The beast didn’t attack—it simply looked around in confusion and retreated.
Then another clip.
A group of spirit beasts sharing food with a few villagers in southern India.
Another—demons helping repair collapsed buildings in a Korean district.
The footage was surreal. Unscripted. Chaotic.
But not... violent.
Chen Yu watched silently as the world adjusted.
"People don’t even know the truth," he muttered. "They have no idea this was meant to be war. But maybe... maybe that’s for the best."
Despite the shock, panic hadn’t consumed the world. The system had released new global quests not for bloodshed—but for balance.
[Global Quest Alert]
Objective: Co-exist with the new races
Task: Learn. Trade. Survive.
Warning: Do not provoke or exploit non-human visitors
Reward: Race Affinity Points + System Upgrades
Penalty: Decreased Trust Level with all races
"It’s working..." Chen whispered. "Peace... is actually working."
But even peace had its cracks.
He turned up the volume again.
"...in other news, crime rates have seen a minor spike. Some underground factions have taken to exploiting confused beasts or abducting weaker challengers for illegal experiments. A spirit beast was found injured near a metro station in Berlin. Police are investigating."
Another anchor took over, face more serious now.
"There are rumors... of underground auctions for newly merged ’resources’—be it mana stones, hybrid creatures, or worse... sentient beings."
Chen’s fists clenched.
"Greed doesn’t die, even when the world changes."
Still, the majority response... was hope.
Civilians were helping newcomers. Children fascinated by flying creatures. Farmers sharing water with confused demons who could barely speak their tongue. Little things. Human things.
He sighed and turned off the screen.
The world had changed.
But not everyone had lost their humanity.
And perhaps, with the system’s new structure, maybe—just maybe—they could build something greater.
"I’ll protect this chance," Chen Yu said to himself, walking away from the screen. "No matter what the upper realm throws at us. This world—this new planet—it deserves peace."
Inside the training hall, the air shimmered slightly as Hui finished her final stance—her breath steady, her aura sharp.
A flicker of space, and a teleportation portal cracked open behind her.
From it, a young woman stepped out.
Elegant in posture, dressed in standard challenger gear—armor that barely hid her lean yet lethal figure. Her sharp eyes scanned the room before narrowing at Hui.
"...You must be the Demon King," Ling Ling said flatly.
Hui smirked, not even turning around. "You must be Ling Ling. I don’t like your tone."
"I don’t like being summoned without a reason."
That got Hui to turn.
For a moment, silence passed between them.
Then Hui grinned. "I’m starting to like you."
Chen Yu watched from the upper balcony of the training ground. Meiyun and Ruxue stood beside him, arms folded, both observing the interaction below.
"She’s got a backbone," Meiyun muttered.
Ruxue nodded. "Exactly Hui’s type."
"Which is good," Chen said. "Because she’s training her."
Meiyun raised a brow. "Didn’t you say you’d train Ling Ling yourself?"
Chen sighed. "I have too many things to deal with. Hui’s faster at turning arrogance into competence. Besides, if Ling Ling can’t survive Hui’s training, she can’t survive the upper realm."
As they spoke, Hui descended the steps toward Ling Ling.
"Starting today, your bones belong to me," Hui said with a small smile that somehow carried more threat than any glare.
"I won’t disappoint you," Ling Ling replied coolly, eyes glowing faintly. "But I won’t be broken either."
They stared at each other.
And then, almost as if by mutual unspoken agreement, they launched into a spar that left the stone floor scorched with demonic and ki-infused shockwaves.
Chen Yu turned away.
He had work to do.
—
Back in his study, Chen called Meiyun and Ruxue to sit down.
"I’ve finalized seven of the ten candidates for the upper realm ascension," Chen began, tone crisp. "Myself, Hui, Meiyun, Ruxue, Roman, Vornark, and Ling Ling."
He turned toward Meiyun first.
"I want you to access the central database. Use the Challenger Association network—filter through all B-Rank and A-Rank challengers across China, Russia, the US, Europe, Southeast Asia, and beyond. Look for abnormal stat growth, rare skill classifications, and suppressed awakening types. We need potential, not just power."
"Got it," Meiyun replied with a slight nod. "You’ll have your list by the end of the night."
Chen then turned to Ruxue.
"You’ve already expanded the Challenger Association to every major country—China, India, Japan, Germany, and even the smaller regions through sub-branches."
Ruxue nodded. "Yes, we’ve stabilized every human country’s registry and ranking systems."
"Then it’s time to go further."
She raised an eyebrow. "You mean..."
Chen’s gaze sharpened. "I want you to extend the Challenger Association into the Beast Kingdom and the Demon Kingdom. Fully integrated branches. New challenger evaluation centers. Local liaisons. No discrimination in ranking or reward systems. Anyone with potential should be able to rise."
"You’re talking about complete integration," Ruxue muttered, eyes wide with understanding. "No longer a human-run system—but a planetary one."
"That’s the point," Chen said. "If we’re going to survive in Neo-Terra and beyond, we can’t afford to operate like separate species anymore. The trials ahead won’t care what race you are."
A brief silence passed.
Then Ruxue stood a little straighter. "Leave it to me. Within two months, the demon and beast domains will have operational Association branches—with full protocols, local staff, and system syncing."
Chen Yu smiled faintly. "That’s why I rely on you."
Just then, a global system notification flashed in front of all three of them:
[Global System Announcement]
Attention All Inhabitants of Neo-Terra
With the collapse of the interdimensional walls, planetary integration is complete.
From this moment on, all individuals who reach the age of 18 will automatically be transported to the Trial Grounds to undergo the first round of challenges.
New challengers are awakening every hour.
Chen closed the notification slowly.
More systems. More people gaining powers.
The population of challengers would explode—and with it, chaos if not managed well.
"The world’s changing too fast," Meiyun muttered. "It’s only been a day since the merge..."
Chen turned toward her.
"Then we change faster."
He walked toward the door, hands behind his back.
"Neo-Terra isn’t a playground anymore. It’s the proving ground for the upper realm."
He paused and looked back at the two women who stood ready, committed, and just as powerful as they were loyal.
"Let’s build something that lasts," he said quietly.
And with that, he left the room—to prepare for what was next.
