Chapter 79: THE EYE OF TRUTH

THE EYE OF TRUTH

ONE OF THE IMPORTANT Chapter

[Anomaly Zone – Deep Core Region]

Chen Yu crouched in the dense brush, his gaze locked onto the strange humanoid figure—Kobalt. The air trembled around the creature. The earth itself seemed reluctant to exist beneath its feet.

"I can’t run. I’ll die either way if I don’t fight," Chen muttered, wiping sweat from his brow. His heart pounded—not from fear, but from anticipation and dread entwined together. "This is the first real challenge since I awakened Chaos... but I still can’t use it."

He took a deep breath, eyes narrowing.

"He’s fast... too fast. Teleportation is my only option for mobility," he calculated quickly. "I’ve got 300 mana... each teleport uses 30, no matter the distance. That gives me ten dodges, ten chances to not die."

Chen’s eyes glowed faintly with determination. "I need to trap him first. Speed won’t help him if he can’t move properly."

He took aim at the ground around Kobalt from afar, then activated his trump card.

"Odin’s Wrath!"

Lightning crashed down like divine judgment, splitting the earth and creating a shattered field of scorched stone and unstable footing. The perfect trap—or so Chen thought.

The moment the bolt struck, Kobalt’s glowing blue eyes flickered toward Chen’s position.

"Shit—"

In an instant, Kobalt vanished. Not with teleportation. Not with sound. Just... gone.

CRACK!

A devastating impact struck Chen’s back, launching him through the trees like a ragdoll. He crashed through three thick trunks before slamming into the ground, coughing up blood.

"Guh...! Dammit...!"

He tried to rise, only for a blur to appear above him. Kobalt didn’t stop.

WHAM!

A knee to the gut. Chen’s body curled from the blow, breath stolen from his lungs. His teleportation activated just in time—instinctively.

He reappeared atop a boulder twenty meters away, gasping, ribs aching.

"He’s faster than my perception. I... I can’t even react," Chen muttered.

He raised his hand and focused.

"Void Energy—surround and annihilate!"

A wave of inky darkness shot forward, swallowing Kobalt in a sphere of collapsing space.

For a moment, silence.

Then Kobalt calmly walked out of the void unscathed, like he had just walked through a light breeze.

"What?!"

[System Notification]

Damage Output: 3%

Void Energy Efficiency: Poor – Skill Level Too Low

Then a voice echoed in his mind.

The Void: "Brat, your skill level is too low. That was embarrassing to watch."

Chen growled. "Then tell me what the hell works!"

End of All Beings: "Use my power if you want real destruction."

Peace Among All Beings: "You mustn’t lose heart, child. Fight with clarity, not rage."

Chen staggered back as Kobalt advanced again.

"I don’t have time to argue!"

He clapped his hands together.

"1000x Gravity!"

A tremendous force crashed down on the battlefield. The trees groaned. Rocks cracked. Kobalt’s movement slowed—slightly—but not enough.

Chen’s eyes widened. "Still that fast...?!"

BAM! A punch to the side of his head.

SMASH! A kick to his ribs sent him tumbling again.

His body was covered in bruises. Blood poured from his mouth. His stamina was dwindling. The world blurred.

I thought I was overpowered. I thought I could do anything now...

Another hit. Another teleport. Another hit.

Pain. Blood. Despair.

But then—amid the chaos—clarity.

"...If I can’t win with one energy," Chen murmured, gasping. "Then maybe... I can win with them together."

He gritted his teeth, raising both hands.

"Void... End... combine!"

Two opposite forces surged out of his body. One of pure annihilation. One of finality and decay. The energies clashed—but did not repel.

They spiralled together.

And for a brief moment, the world itself held its breath.

Chen’s eyes turned black and crimson, glowing from the sheer force now roaring within him.

"I’ll show you... what Chaos truly means."

He stepped forward.

Faster than before.

Kobalt blinked, sensing something shift.

Chen vanished.

Then—

BOOOOM!

A spiral of violet and obsidian energy engulfed Kobalt, rupturing space and sending shockwaves through the ground. The creature shrieked—a soundless wail that split the air.

Chen reappeared, panting, one knee on the ground.

Kobalt: Severely Injured – Combat Efficiency Reduced

He stood up slowly, bloodied but smiling.

"Not dead yet, huh?"

Kobalt twitched, body cracked, leaking blue light. It tried to move.

Chen raised his hand again.

"Then let’s finish this..."

The fusion spiralled one last time.

FLASH!

Silence followed.

And then... Kobalt collapsed, dissolving into blue particles.

Emergency Quest Complete

Reward Acquired: 50 Stat Points + Passive Skill – Eye of Truth

Chen dropped to one knee.

"...That was close."

His entire body ached. His mind buzzed. But he smiled through the blood.

"Guess I’m not as invincible as I thought..."

He looked at his hand, the energy fading.

"But I’ll get there."

Chen Yu stood in the clearing, surrounded by silence. The shattered battlefield still carried the traces of his brutal fight with Kobalt. His body ached, cuts still fresh, and bruises marked his skin—but there was a faint smile on his face.

A screen floated in front of him, its glow soft but unmistakably important.

[Reward Unlocked: Eye of Truth {R}]

It is an ancient relic born from clarity and divine sight.

— Allows users to perceive truth in all forms.

— Reveals weaknesses and strengths of opponents.

— Can identify hidden abilities, secrets, or disguises.

— Grants insight into others’ stats and intentions.

Nearly impossible to deceive a wielder of this Eye.

Chen’s eyes narrowed as he read through it.

"Eye of Truth... huh. An R-rank item."

His fingers hovered over the [Claim] button.

"Let’s see what you can show me."

He pressed the button.

A pulse of light surged from the screen. It wasn’t blinding, not painful, not even particularly intense. Just... warm. Controlled.

The glow centred around his eyes for a brief moment before fading.

[Eye of Truth Equipped]

Passive Function Activated – Your perception of the world will never be the same.

He waited. Nothing changed physically. No glowing pupils, no sudden transformation.

But then he noticed it.

Subtle overlays on his surroundings.

He turned to look at a tree—and immediately, he could see it. Its weak trunk structure, the fungal rot at its base, and the slight imbalance in its weight that would cause it to fall under pressure.

"It really works..." he muttered.

His lips curled into a grin.

"This will be useful. Incredibly useful."

He clenched his fists, excitement returning to his chest despite the soreness. The battle with Kobalt had almost killed him—but this reward... this was worth the pain.

"With this Eye, sneak attacks, hidden skills, cloaked enemies—they won’t work anymore. I’ll see through all of it. Every secret, every lie."

His attention turned back to the screen.

[Stat Points Gained: 50]

+10 from previous victories = Total Available: 60

Chen Yu took a deep breath.

"Sixty points. That’s huge."

He opened his stat panel, his expression becoming thoughtful as he glanced over each number:

[Current Stats]

Experience: 0 / ???

• Strength: 70

• Agility: 60

• Stamina: 120

• Mana: 300

• Charm: 9/10

• ENERGY: 300

"After facing Kobalt, I realized something," he whispered. "Strength is important, but... speed decides survival. If I can’t move faster, I’ll die before I even get the chance to counter."

He thought about the fight again. About how Kobalt disappeared and reappeared faster than even his thoughts. How his own reflexes had nearly gotten him killed multiple times.

"Mana’s important for teleportation... sure. But what’s the point if my enemies can block it or reach me before I can even blink? That orc head could intercept teleportation. Speed... agility... that’s what gives me control."

His mind made up, he dragged the slider and poured all 60 points into one stat.

[Agility Increased: 60 → 120]

A strange sensation coursed through his limbs. It wasn’t like raw power or mana flowing in—it was lightness. Like his body had just shed invisible weights. His steps felt quicker. His muscles, are more reactive. Every movement felt sharper, more precise.

"This is what it feels like... to become faster."

He lifted his foot and stepped forward.

The motion was nearly instantaneous—like he had blinked across a short space. A second later, the tree next to him swayed slightly, disturbed by the air displacement of his movement.

He smiled wide, wind brushing across his hair.

"Now this is progress."

He looked back at his stats again:

[Updated Stats]

"I may not have unlocked Chaos Energy yet... but this? This is a start."

The memory of Kobalt still lingered in his mind. The humiliation. The bruises. The pain.

But Chen Yu didn’t feel fear anymore.

He felt fire.

"Next time, I won’t be the one bleeding."

He stood up straight, dusted off the blood-soaked edge of his sleeve, and began walking deeper into the Anomaly Zone.

"Let’s see who’s waiting for me next."
